Due to rising transmission of SARS-CoV2 in both Nassau and Suffolk counties, Island Rescue will be resuming curbside appointments as of Monday May 16. This is a temporary change, as we will be keeping a close watch on transmission rates and return to in person appointments as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

After 2 years, we are excited to resume in person doctor visits starting April 1. Curbside will remain an option for anyone who prefers curbside care. Curbside will also remain for all technician appointments, surgical admits and medication/food pick up.

For the health of you and our staff, we will be limiting the number of people escorting their pets into doctor visits to one person per pet, and we will not be using our waiting room. Anyone entering the office with their pet must wear a mask appropriately (over nose, mouth and chin) for the duration of the visit. If appropriate mask wearing is not a possibility, we will ask that you remain curbside.

The new protocol will be as follows:
-Call to check in when you arrive for your appointment.
-When the doctor is ready, they will call to discuss the reason for the visit. After the call, one pet parent will be escorted to the room with the pet for the examination.
-The doctor will examine your pet and discuss the findings of the exam and any recommended treatments/procedures for your pet.
-After the examination, if your pet requires any treatments or diagnostic testing, we ask that you return to your car while these are being performed. Your pet will be returned to you upon completion of the procedures.

We understand that sometimes our pet parents are also responsible for young children or other adults, and sometimes a translator is needed. If this is the case, we request that you remain curbside at this point.

We thank you for your continued patience and we look forward to welcoming you back!

For almost 2 years, we have all been dealing with Covid and its repercussions. It hasn't been easy for any of us. The veterinary community as a whole has been affected as well. During the pandemic, people have obtained more pets and have been spending more time with their pets. This has lead to a rise in the number of patients seeking medical care. Wait times to obtain a routine appointment can be 4-8 weeks. Some emergency rooms have stopped taking non-life threatening emergencies as their wait times have climbed to as much as twenty four hours on some days. We are all trying our best to help you and your furbaby any way we can. We understand the stress and frustration on your end, as wait times increase and hospital entrance is not currently allowed. However, all we ask is that you have patience with us. We are doing all we can to help you and your pet, and wait times are not intentional. We will not tolerate rude behavior, including belligerence, cursing and name calling. The relationship between the veterinary staff and pet parents must be one of mutual trust and respect, and this type of behavior erodes that trust and results in immediate termination of our patient/client relationship. Any rude behavior will result in you being asked to leave and furture appointments will not be made for your pet.

Thank you for your understanding

Chonkers are great for social media Likes and Shares…but the truth is, reaching and maintaining a healthy weight for your pet reduces their risk of disease and injury, in addition to contributing to a better quality of life and a longer life expectancy for your pet. All of this starts by working closely with your veterinarian on a diet and exercise plan! http://bit.ly/2ZeSDwb
