🌱 Happy Earth Day from your Canine Chef & Holistic Health Coach! 🐾

Today, as we honor our precious planet, I'm reflecting on the beautiful connection between our dogs, the Earth's natural rhythms, and our own wellbeing.

When we feed our furry companions with fresh, seasonal ingredients that the Earth provides at exactly the right time, we're not just nourishing their bodies—we're participating in the ancient dance of nature that sustains all life.

Seasonal eating for our dogs means less environmental impact from long-distance food transportation, reduced packaging waste, and supporting local farmers who care for the soil that grows the food that nourishes our beloved companions.

🌼 DIY Soothing Spray:

Brew strong chamomile tea (4 bags to 4 cups water), cool completely, then transfer to a spray bottle.

Apply to red, itchy areas 2-3 times daily. The natural compounds in chamomile reduce inflammation and calm irritated skin cells.

Several powerful herbs can be easily incorporated into your dog's meals to provide cancer-fighting benefits:

𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜 - This golden spice contains curcumin, which has powerful anti-inflammatory and potential anti-cancer properties.

Finely chop 1 teaspoon fresh parsley and mix into wet food or homemade meals. It pairs beautifully with white fish recipes and can be blended into a quick "green ice cube" treat with bone broth.

𝐆𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 - Helps reduce nausea (common during cancer treatment) while providing anti-inflammatory benefits.

Grate 1/4 teaspoon fresh ginger into bone broth or homemade stews. For dogs who dislike the flavor, try freezing a mixture of ginger juice and chicken broth into lickable ice treats.

𝐑𝐚𝐰 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐲 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬: 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞

My 5-month Boerboel LOVES his raw meaty bones! They provide perfectly balanced calcium and phosphorus that support controlled growth—crucial for preventing joint issues. Bonus: natural teeth cleaning and mental stimulation!

𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐊𝐞𝐲

Contrary to popular belief, extremely high-protein diets can accelerate growth too quickly in giant breeds. I aim for quality moderate protein (24-26%) to support muscle development without stressing growing joints.

If you feed kibble pay attention: Giant breed puppies actually do BETTER on specially formulated giant breed puppy food or adult food. Standard puppy formulas can cause too-rapid growth, leading to developmental orthopedic issues down the road.

𝐒𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

My Boerboel inhales his food! Using puzzle feeders and slow-feed bowls can be beneficial as slow feeding improves digestion and nutrient absorption and can prevent bloat.

The mental engagement of working for their food helps reduce boredom-related behaviors like destructive chewing or excessive barking.

𝐀𝐝𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫-𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬:

I'm excited to share that after pouring my soul into my new business, Nacho Average Dog Health Coach, I'll be niching down and focusing on a concept I have chosen to name 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞 with a mission that's deeply personal to me: 𝑪𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒓 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆'𝒔 𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒆.

This journey began with my beloved Cane Corso, Nacho, who I lost too soon to hemangiosarcoma.

That devastating experience awakened me to the power of nutrition as prevention. What started as grief-driven research became my life's purpose—learning everything possible about how food can literally be medicine for our dogs.

Now, with Tofu and Oslo by my side (my current canine teachers and taste-testers extraordinaire!), I'm bringing together my unique background as both a chef and canine health specialist to help you harness the incredible power of whole foods, medicinal mushrooms, and seasonal ingredients to protect your dogs from cancer and other health challenges.

Through this rebrand, over the coming months and year, I'll be offering:
