PUPPIES & SOCIALIZATION PART 2

🐾 Raising confident, well-adjusted guardian puppies starts with smart socialization!

Yesterday I took Oslo to a dog training session just as an observing dog. My awesome trainer. Suzanne allowed us to attend just so that Oslo could get used to being in the company of other dogs.

The key is positive exposure from a safe distance - let's call it the "observe and reward" method.

Start by finding a quiet spot where your pup can watch other dogs play from afar. Let them process new sights and sounds at their own pace, rewarding calm behavior.

Gradually decrease distance as they show comfort. This is especially important for breeds like Mastiffs who need thoughtful socialization to become the steady guardians they're meant to be.

Remember: Quality over quantity!

Short, positive experiences are better than overwhelming situations. Your pup will thank you with balanced adult behavior.

Do you have any questions about how to socialize mastiffs or other guardian breeds? Comment below!

PUPPIES & CRATE TRAINING PART 1

🍽️ Make mealtime magical! Feed ALL meals in or right next to the crate. Your pup will start seeing their crate as their personal dining room.

🎪 Start with the food bowl just outside the crate door, then gradually move it further inside. It’s like a dinner and a show - watch your pup naturally follow their food into their den!

⏱️ Leave the crate door open during initial feeding sessions. Once your pup’s comfortable, try closing it while they eat. Open it the moment they finish - no dessert course needed!

🦴 Bonus tip: Stuff a Kong with their favorite treat and a bit of peanut butter, then place it in the crate. Now you’ve got a dinner puzzle that keeps them happily occupied!

🚫 Never force your pup into the crate for meals. If they’re hesitant, place the bowl closer to the entrance and be patient. We want positive vibes only!

💡 Clever hack: Randomly drop treats into the crate throughout the day. Your pup will start checking their «treat box» regularly, making crate time more exciting!

🎯 Remember: The goal is to make your pup think «Food + Crate = Amazing!» Soon they’ll be running to their crate at mealtime faster than you can say «dinner’s ready!»

Yesterday we took part in a scent work trial competition with my dog Tofu, and we brought Oslo (my new puppy) along so he could meet people and be out in the big world.

It struck me what an amazing bonding experience scent work training is with your dog. You really have to be in tune with them, something often miss in today's "quick and easy" world.

The same goes for cooking for your dog.

When I started preparing fresh meals for my dogs, I never expected it would transform our relationship the way it has.

There's something profoundly beautiful about knowing exactly what goes into their bowl – lean proteins, vibrant vegetables, and wholesome grains, all carefully chosen to support their health. No preservatives, no mystery ingredients, just pure love in every bite.

The change in their energy is incredible – a shinier coat, brighter eyes that light up at mealtime, and an enthusiasm for life that makes my heart burst.

But it's more than just physical health. It's about the ritual we share.

Every time I chop and prepare their meal, they sit patiently by my feet, their tail gently wagging. Those soft brown(and grey!)eyes follow my every move, filled with trust and anticipation.

In these quiet moments, the bond between us deepens.

They know – they absolutely know – that every ingredient is chosen with care, every portion measured with love.

For those wondering if it's worth the extra time: the joy in their first excited sniff of a freshly prepared meal, the gentle nudge of appreciation against your leg, and knowing you're giving them the absolute best – it's priceless. ❤️

It's not just about feeding them; it's about nurturing their soul as much as their body.

To my fellow dog parents: consider taking this journey.

Your best friend deserves nothing less than your best, and trust me, the love you put into their bowl comes back to you tenfold. ❤️🐕

Remember the last time you poured that dry, processed kibble into your dog’s bowl?

Did you ever wonder what’s really in there?

The truth is shocking. Most commercial dog foods contain:

😮 Rendered meat by-products (including diseased animals)
😮Synthetic preservatives linked to cancer
😮 Rancid oils that cause inflammation
😮Artificial colors and flavors with no nutritional value

Your faithful companion deserves better than mystery meat and chemical preservatives. They deserve real, wholesome food made with love – just like you’d want for yourself.

Introducing «Canine Culinary Bliss: Whole Food, Gourmet Recipes for Dogs» – a revolutionary e-cookbook that transforms your pup’s meals from processed to pristine.

Developed by me, a professional chef and canine nutritionist, these 15+ gourmet recipes use only natural, human-grade ingredients to:

🐶Boost energy levels naturally
🐶 Promote a glossy, healthy coat
🐶 Support optimal digestion
🐶 Reduce allergies and inflammation

Your dog is meant to eat more varied, colorful food (just like you!) - and not be forced to eat the same bowl of cereal every day for the rest of his life.

Whether you decide to cook for him just once a week or once a month- that’s way better than no days at all!

Ready to give your best friend the gift of real food?

Good news! December is my birthday month and I want to give a discount to everyone who is willing to go that extra mile for their pup!

PUPPIES & SOCIALIZATION

Early socialization is absolutely crucial for all puppies, but it’s especially critical for large guardian breeds like Mastiffs.

These breeds were developed to be protective and naturally wary of strangers - wonderful traits when properly channeled, but problematic without proper early socialization.

🐾 The period between 3-16 weeks of age is a critical windown in a puppy’s development when their brains are primed to form positive associations with new experiences.

🦽🧢Expose them to different kinds of people, wearing hats, hoodies, in wheelchairs, with umbrellas, etc.

☂️Introduce them to loud noises like vaccuum cleaners, blenders, etc.

Equally important is to not force socialization so that it overwhelms the puppy. Putting him in a large crowd and making him say hi to other dogs is not the best way - rather, right now for instance, as Oslo is only 9 weeks old, we sit on our stoop so he can observe from a distance - cars, trucks, people walking dogs, kids screaming - from a safe distance.

A well-socialized guardian breed is a joy to own - confident, discerning, and appropriately protective without being fearful or aggressive. The time invested in early socialization pays dividends throughout your dog’s life.

Do you have any questions about socialization?

One of the challenging things with a mastiff puppy is monitoring their movements while they are young.

Large breed puppies (like Great Danes, Saint Bernards, Mastiffs, etc.) need special consideration with exercise because their growth plates don’t fully close until 12-18 months of age, sometimes even later.

💡❗️Here’s why being careful with exercise and extreme movement is crucial:

1. Joint Development
Their rapid growth and heavy body weight puts extra stress on developing joints. Over-exercise during this critical period can lead to:

- Premature wear on growth plates
- Increased risk of developmental orthopedic diseases
- Potential for early arthritis

2. Growth Plate Protection

Growing bones have soft areas called growth plates where new bone tissue forms. These plates are vulnerable to:

- Injury from high-impact activities
- Damage from repetitive motion
- Stress fractures if overworked

3. Safe Exercise Guidelines

For extra-large breed puppies, follow these principles:

- Keep walks short (5 minutes per month of age, twice daily)
- Avoid high-impact activities like jumping on and off couches, walking up and down stairs multiple times a day and running on hard surfaces
- Let the puppy rest when they show signs of tiredness
- Choose soft surfaces like grass for play sessions

4. Activities to Avoid

Until growth plates close:

- No jogging or running alongside bikes
- No intense fetch sessions
- No agility training or jumping exercises
- Avoid steep stairs when possible

5. Signs of Over-Exercise

Watch for:
- Lagging behind during walks
- Excessive panting
- Reluctance to move after exercise
- Limping or favoring a leg
- Morning stiffness

The goal during the puppy period is controlled, gentle exercise that allows for proper bone and joint development. This investment in careful exercise during their first year will help ensure a lifetime of healthy mobility.

🎄 PUPPIES & TREES 🎄🐶

So this is how our tree looks like this year - in jail! 🤣

Our new eight week old puppy is showing an unhealthy interest in the tree and while I never leave him unattended, I can’t keep my eyes on him every single second so better safe than sorry to avoid him chewing on decorations and chords.

Pine trees on their own are not toxic, but there is obviously danger in ingesting ornaments and potentially getting electrocuted by chewing on chords.

Today was Oslo’s first visit to a store – we went to the local pet store to get him a sweater because it’s freezing in New York right now.

Socializing puppies from the start is super important. Especially mastiffs, who, as guard dogs, tend to be naturally skeptical or reserved towards other humans other than their immediate family. The last thing you want is a shy mastiff!

Oslo did really well, although naturally a bit timid in the beginning, it’s important to give him the time needed to adjust, because he arrived from Indiana, where he was living in a very rural area compared to the urban scenario he will be living in with us with all the noises, situations, people and noises that come with that.

Imagine a creature coming from a different planet trying to get adjusted to their new home. That’s kind of what it’s like for puppies. You need to teach them everything and show compassion and have patience!

Are you a new puppy parent who are wondering how to best raise your new fur baby?

🔔 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐢𝐩:

𝑫𝒐𝒈𝒔 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒆.

Dogs are creatures of routine. Regular schedules help them feel secure and reduce anxiety by creating predictable patterns. Their bodies are biologically tuned to expect food and exercise at consistent times - this regulates digestion, metabolism, and hormone levels.

During holidays, disrupted schedules can trigger:
- Increased stress/anxiety
- Digestive issues
- Behavioral problems
- Sleep disruption

To maintain stability:
- Feed at usual times (within 30-min window)
- Keep walks at normal schedule
- Preserve morning/evening ritual timing
