The veterinary profession has been known to experience high rates of mental health issues, including unaliving. Historically, studies have indicated that veterinarians may have a higher risk of s**c*d* compared to the general population, often due to factors such as work-related stress, emotional toll from dealing with animal suffering, and the challenges of client interactions.

So - before you speak ask yourself is it necessary ? Is it kind? Am I projecting my own feelings onto my veterinarian ?

Remember - if it’s not normal , don’t wait . Your decision to wait until it’s too late and then expect your vet/animal care team to perform a miracle is irrational .

I have trained dogs for most of the decades I have been alive .

I just want you to KEEP your beloved pet .

I have NEVER , and I mean NEVER , seen an over population problem like this .
There are so many factors contributing to it - one huge one is corporate take overs of small vet clinics and massive burn out from veterinarians.

For the love of all that you cherish - BE KIND TO YOUR VETERINARIAN.
Chances are they work for a corporate clinic and have ZERO control over what you get charged .
Don’t wait til your animal is on deaths door before you take them in and don’t blame the vet if that can’t save them , because you waited too long .

Trying my hand at making my own dog food .
I make sourdough and save all my discard so I looked up some potential recipes and all I found were dog treats with peanut butter which I’m not a fan of for dogs .
I made some biscuits and a tray of flatten out dough .
I’ll keep you posted how everyone likes it .

Recipe :

I cup Sourdough Discard ( I use organic flour and red star yeast )
1.5 cups organic whole wheat flour
2 eggs
I lb macerated organ meat ( food processor)
1/2 cup shredded carrots
1 full zucchini shredded in food processor
3 Teaspoons Just Food For Dogs
Probiotic vitamin powder Beef liver
Spread out on parchment paper on a large baking sheet bake for 40 minutes at 350 f .

Testing out the value of different treats , treat diving and teaching search as a foundation for other behaviors and ending on speak with hand signals .
This is a form of shaping behavior I’ve learned from an agility trainer . It’s similar to how I train dogs to search out dope
or bomb odor but it’s slower paced and I’m normally a mile a minute.

Tried short enrichment games with your dog? I’m learning about shaping from an agility champion trainer right now - although I’m familiar with reward based operant conditioning and shaping through prey drive , building a foundation for companion pets in this manner is somewhat new to me . Low impact enrichment training . Learning to follow directions is hard for pups who have trained themselves and their people . The littlest task can be stressful . Doing click & reward is a great way to get your pup to think and these short sessions of them figuring out how to make the reward human work are surprisingly good for wearing them out a little bit . I’m using the leash to help keep her with me as there were a ton of distractions and she doesn’t like the leash much . I’m able to move around and reset her feet and give her the chance to problem solve and figure out that I wanted her to sit - an action she will not do on command . Slow and steady and much easier on your back . 30 -45 minute enrichment sessions designed around your lifestyle, your language and your habits . Training out of the box .
