Winter weather has arrived! Check out our 5 winter safety tips for pets ⬇️

❄️ Winter Tune-Up Visit: Now is the perfect time to bring your pet in for a Winter Tune-Up visit. A tune-up visit (with these core services: wellness exam, bloodwork, dental evaluation, nutrition evaluation) will establish a baseline of wellness and help keep your pet happy and healthy in the new year.

❄️ Limit Exposure to Elements: Shorter walks and outside play time will help protect you and your pet from weather-related risks. Senior and arthritic pets may have difficulty walking and higher sensitivity to low temperatures and wind.

Short-haired pets tend to feel the cold faster as they have less protection, and short-legged pets may struggle to keep their bellies and bodies off snow-covered ground.

Pro Tip: Your pet’s tolerance for cold can vary based on coat, body fat stores, activity level, and health. Generally, if it’s too cold for you, it’s likely too cold for them.

❄️ Wipe Down + Clean Up: Winter walks can be lovely, but the salt, ice, and snow can be harsh on your pet’s paws and coat. Remember to care for paw pads by trimming long hair between toes, keeping them moisturized, and clean off any salt and debris from walks. Consider investing in a pair of booties to help keep paws safe and dry.

Pro Tip: Use a kitchen whisk to gently remove “ice balls” that have clumped up on your pet’s fur. You can also use lukewarm water to melt them away.

❄️ Avoid Ice + Frozen Water: Snow and crisp weather can be exciting for pets and fun in moderation. Be alert when around bodies of water in the winter. Frozen ponds, lakes, and other bodies of water can pose a serious threat to you and your pet’s safety. Partially frozen water can break under your pet’s weight and quickly turn into a dangerous situation. It’s best to stick to solid ground in the winter months.

Pro Tip: Learn to recognize changes in your pet’s behavior. Whining, shivering, anxiety, slowing down, and lifting/holding up paws can all be signs your pet is too cold and it’s time to get to safety.

❄️ Be Prepared: Make sure you are well prepared to handle the winter weather. Snow and ice storms can arrive quickly and you’ll want to have medications and food well stocked. Essential care like microchipping and making sure your pet is wearing a collar with an ID tag will help get your pet returned home if they get lost or escape in the snow.

Pro Tip: Emergency and first aid kits are extremely convenient in severe weather. Make personalized pet kits by stocking up on several days worth of food, water, and medication.

Brutus was such a great boy at the vet. Words truly can’t describe how affectionate and loving this guy is. It’s clear he’s been through something terrible. Three of his teeth are broken off down to the root and need to be extracted. He’s got wounds all over his face, neck and back in various stages of healing. This poor dog has been through hell and he’s nothing but pure love. He also has an upper respiratory infection so once he gets over that he is scheduled to have his teeth extracted, neutered, and a mass removed on his side. Any help you can give towards his surgery would be greatly appreciated! Brutus is going to need a foster. He is potty trained, good with kids and other dogs but no kitties, that’s his only imperfection. If you’re interested in helping one of the sweetest pitties on the planet please apply ♥️

This gorgeous low rider bully is made of solid muscle and love ♥️ Mufasa is about 4 years old, 50lbs and potty trained. He wants to stay right by your side and is a fun, super friendly boy who is also good with kids. Mufasa needs to be the only pet in the home but we promise he will give you all the love you could ever want. Mufasa’s foster dad says he’s *such* a great dog. His favorite things to do are to go for walks and snuggle up for a good nap, he’s a simple, easy kind of guy! Oh, and did we mention he is stunning too?!

Mae had her two-week check up last night at the vet and she did great, nearly all of the swelling is gone! She also walked into the vet on her own instead of having to be carried and we are so proud of her for that ♥️

A gentle reminder that our team is working extremely hard to meet the needs and demands of every client and patient. If we are unable to answer your call, please leave a voicemail and we will be in touch with you as quickly as possible.

⭐️Accepting foster-to-adopt applications for Mae! Mae is thriving and the swelling on her head is going down each day. She’s a puppy that is desperate for a close human connection and we can tell she loves hard. We don’t want to keep her waiting while she could be bonding with her forever family as she continues to heal. A foster-to-adopt would mean she would be able to go home as a foster while we continue her medial care under the rescue until her swelling is resolved and she’s cleared to be spayed.

Mae is a 4 month old Cane Corso who has suffered trauma to her head from being kicked or hit with a hard object. Despite this horrific abuse she is as loving and sweet as can be. Mae can be fearful of other dogs so we recommend if she does go to a home with other pups they should be calm and mature enough to know when to give her space while she continues to be socialized and slowly gets to know them. Mae is crate trained and is learning to walk on the leash. Around the house and out in the yard she’s a happy, bouncy normal puppy who you would never know went through what she did. She’s great with kids and is good with cats too. Mae deserves the most loving family, please share and help us find them ♥️
