Intermediate Training Field Trip…we are using a dog’s instinct to “ask permission” before approaching other people and dogs.
Notice by using this instinct, there is no lunging or pulling and the dogs are listening to thier owners amid distractions.
We offer Bootcamp (or board and train) options as well.

Marcel is excited to tell you that Summer obedience classes are starting Monday.
Basic Obedience, teaches all the basic commands plus deals with problem behaviors, and how she communicate with your dog in real world situations. Using a lot of psychology, we ensure dogs get permission before bolting out doors, greeting, new people, and approaching other dogs (squirrels and cats).
 Our next class, Intermediate utilizes these basic skills to teach dogs, to tune out and distract situations and look to us for cues. We also work on walking with a loose lead.
Advanced class prepares our dogs for the Therapy Dog test given at the end of the session.

Now that school is about over for the kids, maybe it’s time they help train the dogs. 🐶Junior handlers are always welcome in our group training classes. Next session starts up June 12.

Did you know shaving down dogs with double coats will make them hotter in the summer?
As we approach summer, the temptation is there to shave golden retrievers, labs, german shepherds, etc. It is extremely damaging and a risk to your pups health to cut into their undercoat. There is a common misconception that if you remove your dogs fur that in turn it will keep them cooler.

Double-coated dogs have a soft, inner coat of hair close to their skin that serves as an insulating layer, helping keep them warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather. In summer, a dog will shed a good bit of this under layer, but what remains will help capture air between the two coat layers, allowing the dog to keep the heat at bay and regulate his body temperature. The longer outer coat is used as protection from the sun! Dogs can get sun damage very easily if shaved.
If you think your double coated dog is hot due to excess hair, we can do a thorough de-shed and sanitary shave.

Does your dog have selective hearing? Does he only come back when he’s ready and after he sniffed that spot for the third time? Does he still try to get your attention by jumping? By knowing how they think and honing in on their basic instinct, we can master all of these skills at six weeks. Are you free tomorrow night, Tuesday, April 18 at 5:40? Come join us at Beaufort Dog for the first of a series of basic group classes that will teach your dog to not distraction and focus on you. PMS for more details. We’d love to have you!

We will teach basic dog psychology like:
•not bolting out of doors
•asking us for permission before eating things •greeting other people and dogs

In addition to mastering the basic commands:
•sit
•wait
•stay
•leave it
•down
•take it
•come

The first night we will tackle problem behaviors and discuss replacement behaviors to ensure long term obedience.

This class will also be SUPER helpful for getting your dog used to tuning out distraction and focusing on you.

Intermediate (dealing with distractions and walking on a leash) as well as Advanced ( therapy dog and Canine Good Citizen training) will start in two weeks.
