Why do dogs snore?
Snoring in dogs, like in people, is most commonly caused by soft tissues in the throat partially blocking the airway. As air moves over the soft tissue, it vibrates, creating the snoring sound. However, sometimes other airway conditions can cause dogs to snore too.

While it can be normal for most dogs to have occasional moments of snoring in certain sleeping positions or during exciting dreams, consistently snoring during sleep can be a sign of a health problem. Integrative veterinarian Dr. Julie Buzby gives 7 reasons on why dogs snore, and what it may mean for our dear dozing dogs:

Have you ever come home to find that your beloved dog has chewed up your favorite pair of shoes, raided the kitchen trash can, or eaten something unidentifiable in the yard? Yep, we’ve all been there. Inevitably, your dog will ingest something that doesn’t agree with his or her tummy.
While there are dogs with what my grandma used to call a “strong constitution”—the ability to eat anything without so much as a tiny burp—other dogs aren’t so lucky. It’s these not-so-lucky dogs that usually end up taking a trip to the vet for vomiting, diarrhea, and/or belly pain.
At the appointment, the vet may prescribe a medication like sucralfate as part of the treatment plan. Dr. Julie Buzby shares what dog parents should know about this “GI band-aid” medication:

Why is my dog limping? Should I go to my regular vet? Or does this warrant an emergency vet visit?
All those questions might be swirling through your mind as you try to sort out the right course of action. Dogs can’t tell us why they are limping, toe touching, or favoring a leg. Thus, getting to the root of the problem is up to diligent pet parents and veterinarians.
Dr. Julie Buzby defines the types of limping in dogs, lists some common causes of limping in dogs, and explains what you can do at home to help your dog feel better until you can see your vet:

Did you know that your dog’s skin is the largest organ in his or her body? Being able to see and feel the skin and associated tissue makes it easy to quickly notice new problems.
If you’ve found a lump under your dog’s skin, it can be easy to fear the worst. The good news is that not all lumps are tumors, and even if a lump is a tumor, not all tumors are cancer. Dr. Julie Buzby discusses the different reasons for a lump under a dog’s skin and what to do about it:

A few years ago, I saw a patient named Lizzy. She was an adult Papillon who came in for a visit due to vomiting and limping. The limping began after a fall at home. The cause of the vomiting was less clear to her owner.

While we discussed the circumstances of Lizzy’s injury, her owner mentioned he had given her half a tablet of Advil, thinking it would help her pain. An alarm went off in my head. I was pretty sure I found the reason for my patient’s vomiting.

While it may seem convenient to share this affordable, readily available human medication with our pups, Advil (ibuprofen) is not safe for dogs. Read Dr. Buzby's explanation of why Advil is dangerous for dogs, what to do if your dog ingests any, and the rest of Lizzy's story:

Your dog’s beautiful eyes can easily melt your heart with every gaze. But noticing a problem with your dog’s eyes—like your dog’s eyes being swollen all of a sudden—can quickly put a damper on the moment and make your heart sink.

Depending on the cause, swollen eyes can be an emergency. Some eye problems progress rapidly and may threaten your dog’s sight or cause him or her to lose an eye. Head to the veterinary ER if the eye is red, painful, or protruding, if your dog might be having an allergic reaction, or if you believe he or she needs immediate care.

When thinking about what causes swollen eyes, It is important to consider which part of the eye is swollen. Sometimes the eyeball itself may be enlarged or protruding more than normal. Other times, it is the eyelids, conjunctiva, and other tissues around the eye that are swollen and puffy.

🍗 Even the best-behaved dogs slip up every once in a while. The irresistible scent may overwhelm their willpower, leading them to indulge in a potentially dangerous temptation—chicken bones.

We know that chicken meat is safe for dogs in general (as long as they aren’t allergic to it or don’t eat enough fat and skin to get pancreatitis). Plus, wild animals eat bones all the time. So you might be wondering if it’s such a big deal if your dog eats a chicken bone on occasion.

As you will soon find out, sometimes it works out ok. But other times, there can be some pretty serious health issues when a dog swallows chicken bones. Dr. Julie Buzby discusses the dangers of chicken bones and what to do next if your dog eats a chicken bone:
