Agave Dogs rescues adoptable shelter dogs and finds them loving homes in Oregon and Washington 🐾🐕💚 So we jumped into action and haven't stopped since.

Agave Dogs Rescue was founded in 2017 after seeing constant pleas on social media from shelters and rescuers in Texas and other Southern states for help with their dog overpopulation crisis. Dogs dumped on the side of the road, dogs minutes from euthanasia unless a rescue tagged them, dogs enduring years of hardship and neglect with owners who didn't or couldn't care for them. We knew the Pacific

Northwest had an extensive demographic of amazing dog lovers willing to offer homes and their hearts to dogs in need. Our Mission:
Agave Dogs rescues adoptable, homeless dogs from areas overwhelmed with pet overpopulation and finds them loving, permanent homes in Oregon and Washington. We assist dogs at risk for euthanasia in high kill shelters and strays found on the street by out of state rescuers. Leena is a 4 month old puppy left behind by houseless owners. She was fending for herself with her littermates in Fresno. Lucky for Leena and her siblings, a rescuer took them into foster to keep them safe. We were able to commit to Leena and bring her to Oregon because a foster offered to give her a soft spot to land in their home 🏠

Leena is just 15 pounds and approximately 4 months old. She is sooo sweet even though she looks sad in these Day #1 photos.

Leena arrives to us this evening on transport and we can’t wait to meet this pretty girl 🩶

Jude was so happy riding to meet transport this morning (first photo!) ❤️

There are so many pregnant strays in the Central Valley of California. These sweet girls are very vulnerable and really have no choice but to be mobbed by numerous intact male dogs. Heavily pregnant, they then try to survive and protect their puppies.

Jude was one of those girls when our rescue partner in Fresno took her in and gave her safety. Now after months in foster, Jude finally has her chance to come to our program and find a home of her own.

Jude is such a petite girl just under 40 pounds. She’s about a year old and excellent with every dog she’s met! Her best friend in foster was a Frenchie boy she loved wrestling with. She’s also been good with young kids.

Crate trained and potty trained.

Jude would love to be your little sidekick and continue learning the world is good.

Raven wanted to thank everyone that donated for her dental surgery! She had 26 teeth extracted today, 2 were already missing and she has 14 teeth remaining. The surgery total came to $1,023.31 and the receipt is posted in the comments.

Raven’s foster mom took her to the park yesterday so she could enjoy the daisies, green grass and sunshine before her big surgery today. She will be feeling so much better soon and Sunday she gets to go home with her new family! 🌼

ADOPTED! Ziggy came to us from California with an old pelvic fracture that had damaged her hind leg muscle. She wasn’t in pain though, and still used her leg so after an orthopedic consult we decided it was best to just leave her little wonky leg alone.

Ziggy sat in rescue with us for close to two months with little to no interest despite being a total cutie! Eventually, her foster family decided Ziggy was meant to be with them and they decided to adopt her. We think she landed with the very best people we could have imagined for her. Best wishes to Ziggy and her new family! 💖

ADOPTED! As Colter’s one month marker of being in foster with us was quickly approaching, we were starting to think of him as “the invisible puppy.” No one had inquired or applied. But last week just a few days before the one month mark, this kind couple submitted an application and were eager to meet Colter.

Colter can be a shy guy after he survived a house fire in Oklahoma where 20+ other dogs in the home tragically perished. Colter really needed kind humans willing to help bolster is confidence and give him time to settle in and decompress. We are so happy these wonderful adopters gave him that chance. Congratulations on your new home Colter! 🧡

ADOPTED! Dawson came to us from Oklahoma after waiting 13 months in foster there. He is a sweet, senior boy whose owner passed away in a tragic accident and a local dog rescue who knew Dawson took him. He was well known as the social butterfly “town dog.” Dawson spent his days in Oklahoma hanging out at the hardware store greeting customers.

The Oklahoma rescue wasn’t sure if anyone in Oregon would want to adopt a senior dog but we assured them that senior dogs are adored up here. Dawson met a wonderful family and after a trial adoption period they decided he was meant to stay. Best wishes Dawson! 😘

ADOPTED! Something we are EXTRA grateful for are our adopters who love our black dogs in need of good homes! Oz came to us from Oklahoma after months of waiting there hoping a loving home would materialize (spoiler - it didn’t.) At risk of growing up in rescue, Oz was a puppy who needed a fresh set of eyes on him. Oz lucked out big time when he came to Oregon landed with a wonderful dog trainer eager to raise him up the rest of the way and bring out his full potential. Happy new life Oz! 🖤🐾

Can you help us get senior Schnauzer Raven a dental? 🦷

Raven was relinquished to our rescue today due to her elderly owner needing to go into a care home. She was a beloved little dog to him for 9+ years and he even had this beautiful stained glass made in her image.

Upon Raven’s intake though, we realized her mouth is in pretty rough shape with dental disease. April 24th she goes into surgery to have a dental cleaning and extractions.

This surgery will likely cost us at least $800. Her owner was able to make a $50 donation towards her care.

Can you help sponsor the $121.64 health certificate so that this tiny litter of seven puppies can travel to us from California on April 26th? Receipt in photos 🧾⤵️

A Good Samaritan took in a pregnant momma Chihuahua (pictured) and we are bringing the litter up to adopt them out and getting momma dog spayed for the Good Samaritan that would like to keep her in California. All puppies will be spayed and neutered as part of our adoption process.

Part of responsible rescue is always spaying mom dog so the cycle can’t repeat itself by bringing more puppies into the world.

Did you know that quite a few animal control holding facilities operate and house dogs at sewer treatment plants? Sadly it’s true. That’s been a long time situation in some jurisdictions 😔

Last week we saw video of little Pug mix girl, Hula, in a kennel with many other puppies, no water and excrement everywhere. We decided to pull her into our program and got her into a foster in California.

Hula will travel up to us on April 26th arriving to a foster in Oregon City. She’s just 8.5 pounds and approximately 5 months old.

Martha is as cute as they come 🩷

Martha was adopted back in October but returned to us last week because she really needs a dog friend in her new home to be most comfortable. This little low-rider girl was a momma dog to 7 puppies we adopted out and we are really hoping a new home with another friendly little dog comes along for her. Martha absolutely lights up seeing dog friends!

• Approximately 7ish years old and 29 pounds
• Polite, gentle, kind, mild-mannered
• Seeking a home with a fenced yard because Martha loves to be outside lounging. She takes some coaxing to come inside but readily follows the lead of other dogs. She is so happy to have a yard.

Adoption update 😍

About six years ago we were helping quite a few dogs out of Alabama with our partner there, Free State Four Paws, Inc. who helps thousands of dogs in their home state. We could almost call it our “hound era” because we loved getting hounds especially!

Today Daisy Mae’s mom in Washington wrote to us as she does every year on her “Gotcha Day.” It’s so great to get these updates:

“Tomorrow it will be 6 yrs ago that we got our Daisy Mae from Agave! She is the best dog we have ever had! We love her so very much, she is amazing! The vet told us she was either 3 or 4 years old when we rescued her, so she is turning 9 or 10. She is getting fatty tumors here and there and she has a growth in her ear and in the inner corner of her eye( not affecting her vision or hearing). Thank you so much for rescuing her from Alabama! (Her name when we got her was Bess). I bought her a special new toy for tomorrow, her gotcha day!”

We are so thrilled to see our rescue dogs living their best lives in the updates we get! 🌼

Rafferty’s shelter photo made our scrolling come to a screeching halt. We just couldn’t shake this little guy standing up, almost human-like. He was at Madera County Animal Services which works hard for their dogs but who is also chronically overwhelmed with the steady stream of incoming dogs.
