Happy New Year to all our supporters, adopters, fosters, volunteers, rescue partners, transporters, trainers, vet staff, photographers and everyone who has believed in our mission to help as many dogs as possible in 2024! ๐ฅณ
๐ Our total for dogs rescued is 166! ๐
That may not seem like a huge number but itโs been a tremendous amount of love, care, effort, vet visits, tears, overcoming challenges and bittersweet moments as we see the rescue dogs we have put so much work into leave our program for new lives in loving homes.
In 2024 we rescued dogs from California, Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
We saved 13 dogs from our local Oregon shelter, Clackamas County Dog Services. We also volunteered weekly at the shelter to potty walk and network dogs.
We took in 9 local Oregon owner surrender dogs and found them urgently needed new homes.
All the people in these photos are just some of the many volunteers that keep our wheels of rescue turning. They poured their hearts and commitment into the dogs they foster while they await adoption. They drive many miles and stay up late many nights helping to intake and transport dogs. Without our foster homes we could not operate.
In 2025 we look forward to continuing to assist shelters by transferring dogs into our program to help reduce euthanasia rates.
Last year we witnessed a surge in dumped dogs abandoned in remote places by owners. We are committed to continuing to help these dogs because so many shelters have no capacity to accept them.
We are also looking to provide more outreach to Oregon owners who need spay assistance for their female dogs. Low cost spay and neuter options have generally disappeared and the cost for surgery has increased significantly. We aim to help subsidize the cost for owners unable to afford the surgery. Our main focus would be on spay surgeries.
We are so thankful for all that our followers have done to continue to help us save the most dogs that we can during this critical time in rescue. Most rescues consider the last year or two to be unprecedented times as far as the homeless dog population and owners needing to surrender dogs goes. Agave Dogs Rescue will forge ahead despite the challenges and help as much as our team is able โค๏ธ๐
