Dog Play
Good afternoon! Remember LaLa? This young fur baby has a whole lot of puppy and had to learn as a part of her capstone training to play nice with other dogs. Initially, her dog mom wondered if she had made the biggest mistake of her life adopting a puppy right before the holidays. Today, LaLa's dog mom is so pleased with her progress. She made tremendous strides between Day 1 of training and Day 3 of training. I brought Harley in to show LaLa how to politely greet another dog and play nice off-leash. This video is proof of success! We are soooooooo proud of you! Way to go, LaLa!
Way to go, Annie!
Training is fun for the whole family. Annie's cousin came to help train her on her graduation day and did amazing with Annie! She had control and Annie paid attention. We are sooooo proud of you! Way to go, you two!
I want to play but I'm still learning how to...
Lucy is learning to socialize with new people and other dogs. She has been progressing nicely and after her third encounter with Harley, she is starting to pick up play behaviors.
Rocket shows off!
Remember Rocket? This little guy has grown not only in size but in "smartness!" He has made great progress in his training, and he graduated from training by demonstrating his critical thinking skills on this very difficult puzzle game. We are sooooo proud of you! Way to go, Rocket!!!
When does a tail become a feather duster or a weapon?
When does a tail become a feather duster or a weapon?
Gingersnap was so excited about her new treat that she created her own game to engage it. Edible chew toys can be great tools to use when you want your dog to entertain themselves, especially when you have company over for Thanksgiving!
Remember Winston? This sweet and lovable boy has a lot of personality but needed some refining. He has made some tremendous progress in his training. His constant barking as ceased, his manners have improved on and off the leash, and his patience has grown exponentially. He is also now ready to tackle his fears head on. His capstone event was a visit to Lowes for him to experience new sights, smells, and sounds. Winston was not a fan of the animated reindeer at the entrance as first, but after some focus drills near the moving reindeer, he was able to see it was not a threat and opted to sniff at it in curiousity and decided not to "take it down." He even had enough confidence to not only put all four paws onto a cart, he took a ride on it. While Winston "graduated" from his training last week, his dog parents want him to continue maintenance training to keep him on track after the holidays. We are soooooo proud of you! Way to go, Winston!
Yesterday, Pawz 4 Peeps Dog Training was providing some free consultation and training at the City of Moraine Park and Recreation’s Paws in the Park event. We brought some agility equipment to peek participants’ interest. It was lots of fun! Even Harley got a chance to play a little and learned how to jump obstacles! Thanks to Kelly Ludwig Stricker and her crew for letting us participate!
While pre-flighting all of the equipment for tomorrow’s opening day, we took advantage of giving BeeBee and Peanut a little agility training. BeeBee picked it up quickly—however, Peanut, not so much…. We’ll have lots of opportunity this week to get a little practice in for everyone joining us! Can’t wait to see you all!
Kids can train dogs too!
Often times, adults do not involve kids in training their new 4-legged family member. However, when children are involved in the training process, they become a part of the solution and no longer a part of the problem. I received this video from a proud dog dad who involved his granddaughter in Emmy and Bailey's training. Look at this little tike go! She's got these pups eating out of her hand--she's got their total attention!
Learning to jump up into the truck
Rosie would not jump up into any vehicle, despite her dog family's efforts. As she continued to grow, her dog mom struggled with lifting her into a vehicle, especially her truck. Sometimes it takes a little time and "baby steps." Rosie learned to climb into the truck using steps. When she realized she actually had the power to jump directly from ground, she had the confidence to jump into any of their vehicles (and bed)!
Ziggy Down
We LOVE to involve the entire family when training. Involving kids in training really gives them a sense of understanding and responsibility in taking care of their dog. A persistent 12 year-old got her dog to do one of the most challenging tasks for a dog--laying down on command! Great job!
