Hello! Thanks again! Martine

Permanently closed.

I have been dog grooming in the Beaverton area since 1997. I graduated from Tara Lara School of Dog Grooming in 1997, one of the top grooming schools in the country at the time. I started off my career at Pet Barn in Cedar Mill. In November of 2010 I gave up my grooming station and lead groomer position at The Muttley Crew after nearly 5 years. I did some freelancing at a few grooming shops in the

Beaverton, Portland and Newberg area for a few months. I spent 10 months grooming at Nature's Pet Murrayhill in Beaverton. As of May 11th 2012, I am now pleased to say I have my very own shop! I'd like to thank all of my clients for their continued support and patience during my transition period! I am thankful for the relationships I've made over the years with both my 2 legged and 4 legged friends, and am excited for the new friends I'll be meeting in the future! If you would like to schedule an appointment please call or text me on my cell 503-702-2758. You can also email me and I will return your message within the day. REFERRALS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Anita Blair was the first guide dog handler in El Paso, Texas, when she graduated from The Seeing Eye in March 1940 with Fawn, a German shepherd. The photo is a black and white photo of Anita being guided by Fawn across a bustling city street in the early 1940s.

Just a month later, Anita and Fawn were crossing a street in El Paso when a car nearly hit her. “Fawn, the fawn-colored German shepherd, with perfect timing checked her mistress’s pace, so that the car sped past without the driver being aware that the young woman could not see,” the El Paso Times reported on April 19, 1940.

Fawn was at her side when she graduated from the Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy – now known as the University of Texas at El Paso, or UTEP – with a bachelor’s degree in 1944. She later earned a master’s degree from Texas State College for Women, now Texas Woman’s University, in Denton.

In 1946, Anita and Fawn were again in the news during a tragic fire at the 23-story Hotel LaSalle in Chicago. According to the June 6, 1946, issue of the El Paso Times, Anita was awakened by screams. “When I opened the door the smoke was so heavy I could taste it,” Anita told the newspaper. “I closed the door but did not want to get Fawn excited. Because of her I remained calm – and probably because of me she did the same.”

Fawn led Anita out the window and down the fire escape – 11 stories down – while the fire raged. Sixty-one people were killed in the fire.

In 1952, Anita became the first El Paso woman – and the first blind woman in any state – to be elected as a state representative. During her time in office, Anita fought for funding for the State School for the Deaf, teacher pay raises, and a bill that allowed women to serve on juries.

Anita returned to The Seeing Eye five more times to be matched with successor Seeing Eye dogs. Her last was Beryl, a black Labrador retriever, in 1990. Anita died in 2010 at the age of 93, and in recognition of her service as a state legislator, is buried in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.

Has a coyote ever “followed” you or your dog while you’re walking in your neighborhood or in the park? If so, you may have felt afraid, perhaps thought the coyote was stalking you, or that an attack was imminent. But don’t fear. Coyotes are naturally curious animals, and often engage in this behavior called “escorting”. Escorting is when a coyote, sometimes with its mate, makes sure that you are leaving its territory. This behavior is most often seen from early March to late April, when coyote parents are protecting their precious puppies. Escorting most often happens in early morning or in the evening, and because they may see dogs as a threat to their babies, it’s most often seen by dog walkers.

*
*

What do you do if you’re “escorted” by a coyote? Don’t panic; the coyote is much more terrified of you! If you don’t have your dog leashed - which you should in coyote country- immediately leash it and keep it by your side. Calmly keep walking, slowly, as normally. Soon enough, you’ll be out of the coyote’s home and he will stop escorting you! On the off chance the escorting coyote starts to approach too closely, shout and wave your hands to frighten it away. As we humans develop more and more woodlands, coyote coexistence has become even more essential; we simply must learn to speak their language.

The wolf never eats corpses, neither animals, nor people; it spends its whole life with a partner, it does not mate with its mother or sister; it is a monogamous animal, it does not deceive.
If a partner dies, the wolf remains alone; it knows its young ones well: it is the only animal that helps their parents after deep old age and brings them food.
When you kill a wolf, it looks you in the eye until its soul gives out; it's 25% smarter than the smarter dog, and it's the only animal that doesn't obey training, they say...

Dex has been at the pound for 340 days, and he’d really love for a chance to leave!
Dex is a 5 yr old German Shepherd who weighs 89 lbs.
His adoption fee is $75! Dex enjoys playing fetch, running alongside the new buddies he’s meeting, and taking long walks.
He allows you to groom him all over his body and really loves attention from his handlers!!
He is improving his leash skills, and has been working hard with volunteers at the pound.

Dex needs a home without cats and will need good secure home since he is quite the Houdini.
He does like kids, and due to his happy exuberant nature we think he’d do best with older kids just because of how excited he can be.
Dex can be dog selective so he would like to meet any potential dog family members you have to make sure it’s a good fit.

Dex’s right eye was injured during an episode with a porcupine and had to be removed.
He is still quite handsome, and looks like he's winking at you!
He is being trained to walk on the left side of his handler so he can allow us to be his right eye.
Dex may have one eye, but it doesn’t hold him back at all!
Let’s help this handsome boy find a loving home.
Could you be his new family? Please apply today! https://bit.ly/delnorteadoption

These sweet dogs have been with us for a long time and we would love to see them get to go to their forever homes.
All the pups pictured have a reduced adoption fee of $100.
They are all fixed and up to date on shots.

🍿Popcorn is an 8 month old husky/cattle dog/lab mix 💙 He's beautiful and super loving. Needs an active home. He knows how to sit, shake, lay down, and leave it. He is crate trained, but only for sleeping. Know the breeds…. and if you’re ready for a fun, energetic happy family member, he’s your guy.

💜Ellie is a 5yr old female, AKC German Shepherd Dog. She is potty trained and can be left in a room when you’re not home. Ellie LOVES life! Everything she does is done with extreme enthusiasm! She loves to go for car rides and play in the water. She does best with happy go lucky medium to large dogs. She does not do well with small animals(cats). She responds well to being redirected with food, toys and voice commands but sometimes needs a spray bottle or corrective collar in highly stimulating situations. Ellie loves having a consistent handler and a doggy friend or two.

❤️ Freya is 10 months old ….She loves attention, and being with people. She’s happy, playful, and loves other dogs. Good with kids, no cat history. She is still a puppy and ready to have someone commit to her and love her as their own. She would be a great companion dog loves to follow you everywhere.

🩵Bentley loves to cuddle in bed, and go for long walks. He would do best as an only child, although he does tolerate other dogs. Trusting new people can be hard for Bentley, but once he trusts he is all in! He would best in a home without men. This guy would make a great best friend.

💚Duke is a handsome 5 year old German Shepherd who is looking for his forever home. He would make a great farm dog, and companion. He has a dominant personality and wants to protect his people, but is such a sweetie and just wants all the pets and love. Does well with smaller female dogs when introduced properly.

💛Daisy is a 3year old pit/lab mix and has had a rough start to family life. She is slightly cautious around men but seems to love woman. She seems to get along with other dogs and doesn’t mind them. Daisy is looking for a home that does not have small children, older kids are okay but she likes to jump and might knock little ones over. She is looking for a pack leader and someone to love her unconditionally the way she will love you

If you would like to meet any of these pups to adopt please apply at http://www.hopeshavenfriends.org

At Hopes Haven
Bruno is the last pup from his litter looking for a home to call his own!
He loves attention and lots of playtime. He has such an outgoing spirit and loves to run all over the place. His favorite activity of the day is his puzzle playmat, and he loves to chase a ball. He is always the first one to line up for breakfast, and dinner. Bruno is a morning/evening cuddle bug, and wants to play the rest of the time. He is doing well with crate training and is doing exceptionally well with potty training. He rings the strap of bells hanging from the door about 75% of the time to go out. Bruno is a great puppy and will make a great addition to any family.

He is roughly 3 months old. We don't have any information on breed or parents but we estimate him to be around 60+ pounds fully grown.

If you can't adopt, they really need fosters for the dogs during to move from Tualatin to Portland.

Pass it along. You never know who might like a foster pet for a few days.

Another suggestion.
Most Pet Rescues are looking for homes to foster their animals until they find their forever homes.
My family did this last part as I was growing up.
We had some wonderful pups stay with us for a bit...
I know these .org groups that are no kill aren't able to take more dogs in as they are full capacity.
So, unable to find a rescue, most are left at kill shelters. You can help.

Foster Pup Parents
Let's shine some light on the different ways you can help animal rescue groups.
Thx!!

This is the tale of Sam, an 8 month old GP.
He needs a home.
He was purchased as a cute little puppy & is getting bigger.
He must leave the trailer he is living in.
We have been asked to help this guy.
We need a foster until we can find his perfect home. He is 85 lbs., ok, with dogs and cats.

American Indian Dog
It’s not a wolf, and it’s not a coyote; it’s an American Indian dog. known for its long, pointy ears, thick coat, intense stare, and impressive build.
These working companion animals were almost lost to history after our American Indians were segregated onto reservations, and often left without the resources necessary to maintain the ancient breed.
According to the experts at Animal Corner, the Native American Indian Dog is believed to be up to 30,000 years old. Yes, it's possible that the breed shared parts of North America with some of the earliest Native Americans to inhabit the land. Some specialists have theorized that the Native American Indian Dog breed could even be the missing link between wolves and the modern dog as we know it today.

"They tell you not to cry.
They tell you it's just a dog, not a person.
They tell you that the pain will pass.
They tell you that animals don't know they have to die.
They tell you that the important thing is not to make him suffer.
They tell you that you can have another .
They tell you that it will pass.
They tell you that there are more unbearable pains.

But they don't know how many times you've looked your dog in the eye.

They don't know how many times it's been you and your dog alone, staring into the dark.

They don't know how many times your dog was the only one by your side.

They don't know that the only one who has never judged you is your dog.

They don't know how scared you were the night their cries woke you up.

They don't know how many times your dog slept near you.

They don't know how much you've changed since the dog became part of your life.

They don't know how many times you hugged him when he was sick.

They don't know how many times you've pretended not to see how her hair turned whiter and whiter.

They don't know how many times you've talked to your dog, the only one who really listens.

They don't know how beautiful you were to your dog.

They don't know it was only your dog who knew you were suffering.

They don't know what feelings your dog made you try.

They don't know what it feels like to see your elderly dog straining to come say hi to you.

They don't know that when things went wrong, the only one who didn't go is your dog.

They don't know that your dog trusted you every moment of his life, even in the last one.

They don't know how much your dog has loved you and how little was enough for him to be happy, because you were enough for him.

They don't know that crying for a dog is one of the most noble, meaningful, true, clean and sincere things you can do.

They don't know about the last time you moved him with difficulty... being careful not to hurt him.

They don't know what it felt like to caress his face in the last moments of his life..."
