It’s HOT out there! Be safe with your pets: don’t leave them in the car or any other enclosed spaces in the heat for any amount of time, limit activities when the temp is above 90 degrees, offer fresh/cool water and shaded areas, and actually FEEL pavement with your skin prior to expecting your pet to walk on it. We are here if you need us!

As spring arrives, it is good to remember there are several dangers to keep in mind. Several spring flowers are dangerous to pets, especially lilies (all varieties) and daffodils. If you get flowers for Easter, do NOT bring lilies or daffodils into the house with pets (especially cats!) and if you have family over for the holiday, keep tabs on what foods your pet has access to. A number of common foods are a problem for your pets. It also important to check ingredient lists as some common additives (like Xylitol or birch sugar) can be toxic. Have a safe holiday! 🌷🐣🐰

As flat faced breeds get more popular, owners will have to be more aware of the weather as these dogs can very easily overheat. If it is above 70 degrees or if it is direct sun it may be best to leave them home safe and cool. We have already had some heat stroke cases this year… be aware and stay safe!

July 4th is COMING! Are you and your pets ready? This can be a very scary holiday for your pets, and being prepared before-hand can make it more comfortable and safe for your pets. We recommend:
1.) Microchip your pet and make sure the registration has your current contact information listed.
2.) Keep an up-to-date ID tag on your pet at all times in case they escape their leash, yard, or house.
3.) CALL NOW IF YOUR PET NEEDS MEDICATION! It is best to test it out before the night of the 4th to know that it works for your pet.
4.) Exercise your dog early in the day, and let them out to potty (ON LEASH!) just before dark to ensure they are safe indoors before the fireworks start.
5.) Outdoor cats should be safe inside while it is still light as well.
6.) Prepare an interior room (if possible) of your home before dark by closing windows and blinds, and use the calming pheromone spray (ThunderEase) or collar to reduce anxiety. You can also prepare some treat-filled puzzle feeding toys to offer as distraction. Freezing them is even more fun!
7.) Before dark, start playing an action movie montage! Action movies are great for blocking out the booms; They are usually louder, and have some similar noises in them already that dogs often tune out.
8.) Stay calm yourself. Lead by example, and show your pet you won't let anything bad happen to them... they are safe and secure!
