Early Thursday morning, members of Local 3571 on E71, A71, T73, and Bat7, assisted Bridgeview Fire Fighters Local 4330 with a small grease fire at the McDonald’s. With the work from crews inside the fire was contained and fully extinguished.

This past week, members of Local 3571, hosted and participated in our live burn training at the tower. Alongside our neighbors, our members trained in the areas of scene size ups, hose deployments, forcible entry, flow path control, ladders, search and rescue, communications, vertical and horizontal ventilation, fire extinguishment, and most of all teamwork. Fireground training and operating under live fire conditions is such a valuable tool!

We would like to thank all those who came out to participate this week!

Big Win for Illinois Firefighters!

Thanks to the work of the AFFI, Illinois has taken a major step forward in protecting our members from toxic PFAS in bunker gear:

📅 January 1, 2026 – Any bunker gear sold in Illinois must include a warning if PFAS are intentionally added.
📅 January 1, 2027 – No bunker gear with PFAS can be sold in Illinois.

This is a victory for firefighter health and safety—but the fight isn’t over. AFFI continues to monitor research and push for the safest gear possible.

24 years ago today, September 11th 2001, an unimaginable tragedy occurred that forever changed countless lives and our country forever.

Today… we pause, honor, and remember the innocent lives lost on this tragic day. The hero’s who gave their lives by running in while others were running out. All those who searched through the rubble in hopes of finding survivors at both the World Trade Centers and Pentagon. The countless people who took in strangers who were trying to escape the dust cloud pushing through the city and the brave souls who are forever honored in that Pennsylvania field.

They say time can heal all wounds… Wounds may have healed for some but WE will NEVER forget!

Even gear marketed as “PFAS Free” has been found to contain dangerous chemicals. Independent testing by IAFF affiliates has revealed high levels of PFAS, despite manufacturer claims.

When purchasing new gear, don’t take labels at face value. AFFI urges locals to:
✅ Require proof of compliance with NFPA 1970
✅ Ask for independent certification (OEKO-TEX or equivalent)
✅ Request confirmatory testing for new gear

Your health is on the line—make sure your gear is truly safe.
