Tommy Turkey has watched Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Valentines Day, St Patrickās day, and soon to be Easter, come and go without a home of his very own.
Heās still a young pup, at 6 months old and is extremely smart! He knows his name very well and responds to Tommy, Tom, Thomas, TomTom, Turk, and Turkey.
He knows sit, paw, off, drop it, down, off and is working on stay and wait. He is house and crate trained. He rings a bell to go outside. Is current for a year on his vaccines-distemper, Lyme, leptospirosis, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza, bordatella, rabies, and canine influenza. He is heartworm negative, no tick borne diseases, no parasites. He is neutered. He currently weighs about 35 lbs and will probably be around 50-55 or so when finished growing. Maybe a little more, maybe a little less. He is a mixed breedāwe arenāt sure what.
He currently lives with nine other dogs and a cat. And he does well with all of them. He will need another dog in his home to help teach him the ropes. He was born and lived in a shed the first ten weeks of his life. He has puppy energy, but takes correction well. He also plays by himself and entertains himself well. He eats his food in his crate and sleeps all night long. His favorite treats are Miloās kitchen. His favorite toys are benebones, stuffed and squeakers. He has never eaten or chewed anything he shouldnāt have (except onceāa one dollar bill)
He does well with nail trims, he lets us dress him up, he can be handled all over, his teeth can be brushed and his paws/ears donāt mind being rubbed and touched.
He absolutely loves his people and tries to crawl as close as he can to your body to snuggle. He gives excellent kisses and hugs. He likes to dance and he likes when heās sung to.
He walks well on a leash, and does very well going to the vet.
Tommys undesirable quirks, though, are:
>if left to his own devices in the yard, he will dig a hole. He immediately stops when told to leave it.
>he can and will climb gates and chain links so needs a vinyl or wood privacy fence or should not be allowed to be left unattended.
>Tommy is afraid of new people, and can sound pretty vicious when someone new enters his home or space. If they ignore him and sit down, he will soon go check them out. And while he wonāt allow pets until he gets to know you, he calms down and does his own thing and continues to play. Because of this, a new home without people coming and going would be best suited for him.
>no children. As scary as adults are, kids are louder, faster and have more energy and he has absolutely no idea what to do with this
Tommy will do best with a person or family who will continue to work on his socialization, he has truly come a very long way and we have no doubt he will progress as long as his new person works with him.
The longer he waits, the harder it will be for him to acclimate to changes, so we hope he can find his people soon.
