Hot start to the 2024 deer season. Slade Johnston killed a really pretty buck yesterday in TN. Slade is one of the most selfless genuine guys a person could meet and one of the best friends a guy could ask for. I wouldn’t be anywhere close to where I am at without him. Congrats bro! Proud of you and so excited to put this buck together for you as well as the many others I know you will take this year!

Pricing and intake update❗️

Pricing: This year I am going to up the cost of a shoulder mount to $750 and a pedestal will be $850. That’s right in line with most other taxidermists in the state doing quality work and I feel like my work is worth it.

Intake: I will only be taking deer in this year. I was planning to take bear but I had an opportunity come up that is going to take some of my time in the fall and I think it’s smart to just do deer this year and keep it simple. I will not be doing dry tans or bear mounts, just deer.

Cutoff: I will have a cut off this year. I am shutting down after 200 deer. If you are a customer from last year or a friend I’ll make room after the cutoff but I will not take in new clients past 200.

I genuinely appreciate the support that everyone has shown me in the last year. It’s such a blessing to watch something that started as an idea in my apartment in Ohio become something that I can make a living off of and it would be impossible without all of you!

Wanted to updated everyone with the season coming.

Deer mounts: I’ve got about 25 left to rough in.

Bear mounts: I should be getting those hides back soon and will be doing those leading up to deer season as well as throughout the season.

Dry tans: I still do not have those in from the tannery yet. They are taking longer than expected but I know he is working his butt off to get them back to me. As soon as I get them you will be the first to know.

I am going to make a post with some changes I am making going into this upcoming season. I will be sharing some price changes as well as changes to what animals I will be taking and will not be taking so keep an eye out for that. Thank you everyone for making this such as great year!

Almost a year ago I started Whitlows Wildlife Artistry. The motivation wasn’t money or anything of that sort. I wanted to start something that allowed me to work in a space that meant a lot to me. I wanted to work with people that shared the same passion that I have. Unfortunately I couldn’t make antlerstock this year but it was amazing to see 3 of my mounts with the hunters that harvested them. Meredith Powroznik with her state record traditional archery buck taken by a woman. Aaron Means with his 151” urban 8 point. Jessica Burks with her “Buck of the year” that thing has brown the internet hunting world. Thank you Star City Whitetails for putting on an amazing event!

Roughed in this buck for a young man yesterday. It’s gonna make for an awesome birthday present. This form is an aggressive form so I really tried to capture the image of a buck coming in to fight like the reference photo shows. A few adjustments and some time to dry and this buck will be headed home.

Sorry for the mess in the process of moving into my house and pushing out a ton of deer. Monster VA buck I did for my good friend Scott. Scott has been wheelchair bound for 16 or so years from what I understand and took this buck on a hunt done by Virginia Wheelin' Sportsmen. Just put this giant Bedford county buck together today. Wanted to check in and give an update. I’m still waiting on dry tans, I thought they would be done a month ago but they are taking longer than expected. I am shooting to be done with deer by mid September or earlier then I will do the few bear I have to do. I should have a ton of posts coming soon on finished pieces so be on the lookout for yours!

Finished up my 3rd personal buck of 2023. This is my biggest buck and marked my 4th pope and young buck of the 2023 deer season. I took him at 10 yards with my bow on the evening of Halloween. I really wanted to do something special with this deer so I chose a Gene Smith Ridge Runner and angled the head slightly left. This makes it look like he’s about to turn to the left. I’m not big on showing white in the eyes. I think it looks odd on shoulder mounts because often times the turns aren’t sharp enough to warrant the deer to be looking left or right so the white in the eye wouldn’t show. With this buck I added the white because I want it to look like he is walking and looking left. This deer is 1 piece to a 3 piece pedestal that I’ll finish up soon. Once he is on that you’ll be able to see that head angle a lot better.

Hey everyone. A week or two ago I decided to take a turkey taxidermy class with world class taxidermist, John Beard. I’m not sure that I’ll offer turkey taxidermy to the public when I’m done with it, but I want to learn for myself and have the ability to offer it if I choose. I will need some help in order for it to be a success. I’m in need of turkey capes. If you kill a turkey between now and the end of the season and are planning to just cut it up please reach out. I need as many as I can get so I can practice while I am in class. If you choose to help me out please do not expect a quality job to be done and you may not even receive the turkey back. This is purely for me to practice. The other end of this is I may do really well and if you want the mount back you might receive a top notch turkey mount back. I know it’s late in the season but any turkey helps so please reach out before you start cutting into that turkey! My number is 804-929-3206 thank you!
