I have a loyal adopter from my rescue who is in search of a young female black & tan hound to fill the void in his heart after losing an alumni from IHAR to old age/cancer. I am looking for one to pull into my rescue from a shelter situation or from another rescue so that I can make his wish come true.
Let me know if anyone knows of one in need of saving!

TIA

Our Bedford County Animal Shelter Expansion Project is officially moving forward!🎉

Last night, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution to advertise for bids for the 3,000-square-foot project. Those are due by Feb. 21. The goal is to begin construction by spring.

Earlier this year in our quarterly newsletter, we shared information about the current overcrowding in the shelter and the special donation fund established for this project. Read more here: https://bit.ly/4gPz4Ow

There are three ways to donate:

-Mail a check to the Treasurer’s Office: 122 East Main St. Bedford, VA 24523. Include Bedford County Animal Shelter in the check’s memo.
-Bring check or cash to the Treasurer’s Office in person.
-Bring a check or cash to the Animal Shelter: 1307 Falling Creek Rd. Bedford. If you have questions or would like to coordinate the receival of a check/donation, contact DW Lawhorne at [email protected].

Donations received so far? $10,000! 👏

All donations are tax deductible, and we are also making plans to recognize donors in the new shelter’s welcome area!

The shelter is beyond full again, and is currently offering adoptions for $25 for dogs, and $15 for cats.

Please donate, foster, or adopt. The shelter animals lives depend on you.

The goal of FOBCAS is to try and save the animals at the shelter, by either finding them new homes, foster homes, or space with another rescue.

Currently FOBCAS spends over $100,000 each year on the animals at the shelter.
This includes arranging and paying for all spays and neuters of the dogs and cats at the shelter prior to adoption, as well as any vaccines, medical treatment, or surgeries the animals need so they are ready to go when an adoption is done.
FOBCAS also pays to board off-site when the shelter is full. In 2022, FOBCAS paid for 442 nights boarding, and in 2023, 644 nights boarding. Needless to say, this gets very expensive. FOBCAS is a 100% volunteer organization, and relies on the generosity of the community to save the shelter animals. But we need more help.

Today marks 6 months since K9 Nala was senselessly and abruptly torn from her home and handler of over two years. This has been a difficult road, with many dreadful turns and twists along the way. We certainly hoped to have this resolved LONG LONG before this point. However, we remain faithful that we are fighting a fight worth while and we are still hopeful that we will successfully where she belongs.

Chris has been in touch with his attorneys, there is movement, the appeal process is moving forward with a pre-hearing meeting scheduled for early August. We want to thank you all for your continued love and support, it is greatly appreciated and it is making a difference. Attorney fees thus far are over $7300 and continuing to climb. So again a huge thank you to every donation, support via purchasing t-shirts, stickers etc.!

On that note, we will be sharing a beautiful handmade quilt in the comments and will share to the page as well. This was thoughtfully and generously made by Kristina Bordelon Pickens and is an approved fundraiser. You will be able to purchase tickets for a chance to win the quilt and proceeds will be donated directly to Chris to support the fight to Bring K9 Nala Home. *We will also note this when sharing to the page, but for any supporter wishing to buy a ticket(s) that isn’t local, we will cover the shipping to anywhere in the lower 48 states 🇺🇸*

Please continue to keep Nala in your prayers and our entire situation and pray that we soon will be able to 🙏💙🐾
Thank you all!
