Rescue Right

Rescue Right is a 501(c) (3) non-profit dedicated to all aspects of animal rescue in northern Westch Rescue Right is unlike any other organization of its kind.

We rescue dogs and cats and find permanent new homes for each one, but we also provide free temporary pet boarding for pet owners in distress and provide superb shelter services for local municipalities. We do it all with love, commitment and a smile. Join us! We welcome volunteers, adopters and visitors.

Our sweet Barbie, now named Belle, loving some couch time with her new people. We’re over the moon for her! So much gratitude to our wonderful staff and volunteers for working together to teach her to calm herself, walk well on leash, and perfect her dog manners. This is our reward!

Barbie has left the building! Barbie was a bundle of nervous energy when she came to us, but with time, love, and lots of attention, she blossomed into a perfect pet. She’s gone home tonight to a terrific local family with a weekend home in New Hampshire. Happy tails to yet another previously unwanted mixed breed dog who needed some time, training, and the right fit. Never give up!

Beyond adorable!! Rocky is a big, happy Cane Corso mix puppy who recently lost his home through no fault of his own. He’s 8 months old, and he’s still got some growing to do. Rocky is goofy, affectionate and playful. He’s fine with other dogs, and he’s not too bad on leash walks. Rocky has absolutely no behavioral issues. It’s so nice when a shy dog goes to the perfect home. Cookie was adopted a while back, but things didn’t work out with the other dog in the home. Fortunately, a fantastic new home came along, one that we’re sure is just right for her. We ADORE Cookie, and this is one of those happy tears adoptions that keep us going and remind us why we’re here.

Introducing Wags! Wags, also known as Mr Wags, Waggles, and Sir Waggington, is the the happiest dog in the planet. This guy doesn’t sweat the small stuff, like not having a home just yet. His infectious happiness, sweet goofiness and constantly swishing tail are way too cute!

She’s back! We picked up Stormy from her two week hospitalization adventure yesterday. She’s happy to be back, and soon she’ll be ready for her next chapter; a home. I was so happy to get this email with an adoption update about a misunderstood dog i saved from the euthanasia list. She didn’t work out in the first family that adopted her, so we willingly took her back and worked tirelessly to find a better fit. Here’s the update- Stevie is definitely living her very best life!

We’re worried about Stormy. She’s still hospitalized, not eating on her own yet and having intermittent fevers. The vet and his awesome staff are taking great care of her, but Stormy can use some positive vibes and a dose of good luck. Stormy, get well soon😰.

Stormy chewed the ear of a stuffed animal in her foster home. Naughty girl swallowed it, and since the only luck we have is bad luck, she needed surgery. Thank you as always to our friends at Progressive Animal Hospital for your competence and compassion. The good news? Stormy’s on the mend and doing well.

Adopted! Freida was adopted last week, and she’s already the favorite member of her new family. Freida came to us when her previous owner couldn’t care for her anymore. It can be tough to find homes for adult cats when shelters are full of kittens, but we have really good luck with our feline grown-ups. Frieda was here for about a month before her new family came in and fell in love with her. Another life saved, another happy tail.

TNR is how I hit my start in rescue, and still a core program here. Spring has sprung, and we’re rescuing momma cats and kittens everywhere. These babies and their mom got here just in time, with the kittens on the brink of starvation. Mom is receiving some much needed nutrition, and we’re all taking turns bottle feeding the babies every two hours. A few months back, an elderly local couple came in wanting a dog. Their previous dog passed away, and they were really sad. I had just the right dog for them; a compact, low-energy guy who craved affection. Tonight I visited and saw for myself how happy they are together. They showed me around their modest home, which they’ve lovingly rearranged for the dog’s comfort, and it’s obvious this pet has added so much to their lives. Rescue Right is committed to placing pets with local seniors. The responsibility of owning a pet provides exercise, socialization, a reason to get up and out of the house, as well as companionship and love. As my mother-in-law once told me, “no one touches you after you turn 80”. What a sweet little family these three have built.
