IT'S BEEN A WHOLE YEAR....

The call came in at approximately 10 am on Sunday, December 31, 2023. Kathy Ramsey, BCHS Shelter Manager, answered the phone call from PA State Police (PSP) informing her that they were at a Bedford County residence that had 16-40 dogs that needed to be brought to BCHS. Kathy immediately started notifying board members and all staff to go the shelter to start preparing for this huge intake. The next call from PSP stated that there were 40-70 dogs coming in!

Staff, volunteers and board members scrambled to prepare crates, kennels, food, blankets, leashes, and other supplies that might be needed for an intake this large. Phone calls were made to neighboring shelters and rescues, many closed for the holiday, asking for any assistance they could offer. Upon arriving on scene, we were told that over 90 animals were inside!

Standing in the cold, snowy weather for over 12 hours, we watched in disbelief as 94 dogs, 8 cats and a tortoise were brought out of the residence and placed into our care. Every animal needed medical care. Unfortunately, five dogs had to be euthanized. Never in our wildest dreams did we ever imagine that something like this could happen in Bedford County...but it did.

Early the next morning, New Year’s Day, our community stepped up! Hundreds of people from near and far were lined up at our doors with donations, ready to volunteer and help in any way they could. We couldn’t have done it without our community...

This all happened exactly one year ago, and where are we now?

All of the animals from this cruelty case have been adopted and are living their best lives!

However, the people responsible for this horrific cruelty case are currently out on bail with no set court date. There have been five continuances granted in this case. We have called our District Attorney's Office several times and our calls have not been returned.

Why????

Is everyone hoping that if this drags out long enough, everyone will forget what happened? These animals deserve justice! What they endured is inconceivable!

We are trying our best to get justice for these animals but we are in limbo waiting to hear what is happening. Please join us in raising awareness about this case by sharing this post so justice can be served!!
