Bedford Humane Society Virginia

Bedford Humane Society Virginia Non-Profit, foster-based rescue in VA. No animals are kept on site. Apply to adopt online. Each has their own story that requires a personalized approach.

Mission and Goal: Our mission and our goal at the Bedford Humane Society, Inc. is the elimination of pet overpopulation and suffering in the town and county of Bedford through education, spay/neuter programs, and pet adoptions as well as the prevention of animal cruelty and neglect through advocacy and humane education. Vision: Our vision is to build a caring community where no companion animal is

born unwanted, where they are all happy, healthy, and well fed. All the animals with BHS are in foster homes so not only are they getting the care they need to get back on their feet, but also the attention and training to become a wonderful family member. While we don’t get the show animals that everyone flocks to, here they get a fresh start with us, a new beginning, and a whole new lease on life.

Meet Allie

Allie appears to be around 3 years of age and is in good health. She was surrendered to the county pound due to her owner passing away. She was raising 4 puppies when Bedford Humane took her into foster care. All the puppies have found forever homes and now it is Allie's time. She has learned it is okay to be crated and is house trained. Allie lived with other hound breeds and is now in foster care with another dog. Allie gets excited when let out of her crate, therefore you must be quick to get her outside to potty. She does the zoomies in a fenced yard and plays by herself very well. Allie has met a young child and is a little leery about the high pitched voice. She shows no bad behavior, just stays away. She is very interested in cats, therefore it might be best to have a no cat home. Allie would be a great hiker and a running partner. At the end of the day she has lots of love to give someone.

Allie has been dewormed, microchipped, vaccinated, tested for heartworms, is on heartworm preventative, and is spayed.

For more information. please visit our website at www.bhsva.org to fill out an application to meet and adopt Allie.

Meet Wally

Wally is our newest little foster Kitten. His estimated birthday is 9/06/25. He is a beautiful tabby boy with pretty white trim. He has a lovely patch of white on his chest and 4 white tipped paws. This little guy is being fostered with Buzz who just let his two brothers Bizzy and Teagan be adopted by the same nice lady. That was very nice of Buzz but he was so lonely, his foster mom decided he needed a playmate. So his foster mom took in Wally and these 2 tiny kittens have been inseparable since their first meeting.

Wally is a little shy and nervous about loud noises. But Buzz is helping him relax and trust humans. Wally was found by a kind lady on the median across from Walmart so, it is no wonder he's a little nervous! Wally is a happy go getter therefore he does not like to be held long. We do recommend an older child that would understand Wally's activity.

These 2 boys have become best buddies and it would benefit Wally immensely for them to be adopted together. Buzz is definitely the leader in their mischief and will add to his courage to be with his new best buddy. You would love the experience of a pair of kittens instead of a single.

Wally has been dewormed, microchipped, vaccinated, and tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Since Wally is not neutered, he is not available for adoption outside of the counties contiguous to Bedford County.

For more information, please visit our website at www.bhsva.org to fill out an adoption application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does BHS ask for an approved application before a meet and greet?

BHS is a foster-based facility, which means our fosters work really hard at their day jobs, then come home and take care of their foster animal(s). We don’t want our fosters to take time away from their already busy schedules if an applicant wouldn’t be approved to adopt with us, or is not really serious about adopting. Our application does not mean you must adopt the animal you are interested in. The application simply tells us you are seriously looking for your next forever pet and that you would be approved to adopt from us.

Okay I filled out my application now what?
