Bilbo Baggins made his way peacefully over the rainbow bridge late in the evening on November 20th, surrounded by family.
Bilbo Baggins went by many names, sometimes known as Bilbo Derp Baggins or Mr. Baggins or BB or BoBo or sometimes (for non-nerds hard of hearing) Mr. D***o. Fortunately, in lieu of listening for his name on a regular basis, he erred on the side of responding to anyone who gave him food, praise, and chin scratches.
He was born in September 2014, spending early life in College Station before settling in DFW long-term. He lived 10 years of puggy bliss, eating more than he should, breathing louder than anyone should, and farting as much as any pug should.
He started life as a potato who came to life accidentally, discovering a love of drywall along the way (a habit he fortunately grew out of as an adult). In proper hobbit fashion, he loved to eat, though he did not, in fact, like potatoes.
As a young adult, he started working as a study monitor for the students living in his house in College Station. Using skills mastered there, he later moved on to become the Clinic Supervisor and Official Treat Inspector at Brown Trail Animal Hospital, where he conducted many client satisfaction surveys. If the clients gave him treats, he was satisfied. He would demonstrate his satisfaction by sitting on them to warm their feet and breathing loudly.
He was initially tutored for BTAH work by Jake Murphy Peinado, one of the first tall dogs he ever made friends with, though Bilbo never quite mastered the art of sharing snacks. He came to know many four-legged and two-legged folks through his work at the clinic, making life-long friendships.
Bilbo enjoyed walkies, playing with his toys, napping, human meal-time supervision, and going to work. He was quite perturbed when his human took a day off. He did not like nail trims, going so far as to p**p in Kelli's pocket on one (or possibly two) occasion(s).
Bilbo played veterinary bingo like the best of them, checking off various diseases and conditions common to his breed during his life. Besides retaining 8 baby teeth as a young pup, he also decided to grow a few extra (supernumerary) teeth; these crowded his mouth enough to eventually require dental extractions at various times throughout his life. Besides his extensive dental work, he enjoyed showing off his hip dysplasia and the corneal graft he earned after a minor corneal ulcer decided to start melting, probably courtesy of the fires of Mount Doom. He rounded out his bingo card by being a vaccine reactor (managed easily with benadryl, fortunately). In the past few months of his life, he developed progressive GI disease, which initially presented as autoimmune inflammatory bowel disease but later revealed itself as GI lymphoma.
He is preceded in death by his not very nice "sister" Guinevere (the spicy torti cat who bit everyone who ever met her). He is survived by his human family and many friends, his "sisters" Ducky Doodle Bug, Kitkatastrophe, and Lefty Lemon Littles Leftowitz, and his garden nemesis Foofoocuddlyp**ps von Doombringer (known by some as "Fondue" or "Fondoodoo").
In lieu of flowers, consider donating to your local dog rescue and giving your furry friends an extra hug and kiss in honor of Bilbo, who excelled at such cuddles and provided his own white noise machine sound effects for added benefit.

🦠Leptospirosis is an infection of Lepto bacteria. Found in the urine of infected mice, rats, racoons, skunks and possums, this bacteria gets excreted into the environment.

Dogs are most often infected by drinking from a contaminated water source. The bacteria then targets the liver and kidneys, leading to serious illness and sometimes death.

You can prevent infection with an annual lepto vaccine and booster, good for dogs over 12 weeks old.

Help us spread awareness on the importance of the lepto vaccine by sharing this post!

Does your pet have a beautiful face like our friend here? Keep reading (and drop a photo in the comments)!

Deep wrinkles often trap moisture causing yeast to thrive. If left untreated, their skin can get inflamed and infected. This is called skin fold dermatitis.
Symptoms may include redness and inflammation, itching, odor, skin discoloration, and skin lesions.

Regularly cleaning and drying their folds with vet-approved cleanser can go a long way! Our team can discuss more options to help your squishy-faced friend remain looking and feeling beautiful! Give us a call.

We are sad to announce that our founder, Dr. Fred Palmer, passed away on Oct. 11, 2024.
"He was a Christian, a Texan, a Texas Aggie, a veteran, a veterinarian, an outdoorsman, a fisherman, a jokester, a loving son, a brother, a husband, Dad, and Grandaddy. He was a wealth of seemingly endless knowledge about wildlife and the rest of the great outdoors. He was a history buff, a student of the English language with a penchant for obscure words, and a source of never-ending homespun colloquialisms. He was a night owl and often the last to leave a social event. He had the gift of gab and could talk with anyone."
