Time to get Zen with animals! Join us on February 7th from 5-6 PM at the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire (ARLNH) for a special yoga class designed for tweens and teens ages 11 to 16! This class is an adaptation of our popular adult yoga session and features interactions with the shelter's resident pets who are awaiting adoption. The class will be led by an instructor from The Yoga & Fitness Loft.

In addition to the fun yoga class, participants will enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the shelter and learn about ARLNH's role in the community. Don't worry if you don’t have a yoga mat – we’ll provide one for you! We can’t wait to see you on the mats!

Huge thanks to the gymnasts whose meet was hosted by the YMCA Allard Center of Goffstown! They collected an abundance of the items we use here everyday to keep our shelter up and running! There is also lots of food, treats and toys. Thank you very much! Many animals will benefit from your hard work and generosity.

Children’s programming alert! The Animal Rescue League of NH is hosting children’s Storytime on January 27th at 11 am. We will be reading What Pet Should I Get? by Dr. Seuss, a book about a trip to the pet store which turns into a hilarious struggle when two kids must choose one pet to take home... but every time they think they see an animal they like, they find something even better! Have your children join us for this fun animal-themed story read by our Humane Educator with an accompanying craft activity! Storytime is designed to be an age-appropriate event for our youngest visitors (0-5 years) that begins to foster a sense of responsibility and compassion. Afterward, families are welcome to visit our adoption center to look at the many shelter residents!

Do your kids like cats? Are they looking for something fun to do on their day off from school? Join us at ARLNH on January 20th at 11 am for a kid friendly presentation all about cats! In honor of “Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day” this month, our Humane Educator will be answering some of your cats' burning questions to help teach kids more about our feline companions. Afterwards, kids will participate in an enrichment craft activity. This event is open to children 5 years and older.

Situation has been sorted. Thank you.

Manchester Residents:

We are looking for where this guy belongs. He was found on Dubuque St a few days ago, but brought to us today. He is neutered and microchipped, however his microchip incorrectly identifies him as a dog... so while we do some more digging on that end of things, we figured we'd post him here.

If you know where he belongs, give us a call at 603-472-3647 or email us at [email protected]

Little Delilah is cozying up before the real cold weather hits in her new home!

"Delilah is doing just fine -- I think she's pretty much settled in. She likes to hide and sleep until late in the afternoon, but she loves affection and jumps in my lap when I'm watching TV - it's a ritual. Sometimes when I wake up at night she's at the end of the bed. She plays with ALL of her toys!"

We would like to send a big thank you to Angelina from Pinkerton Academy! Her Capstone Project was to increase awareness about animal adoptions on the "Adopt Don't Shop" platform. Not only did she work very hard on creating informational flyers for us to use at events, she also collected many donations. Thank you Angelina!

Happy New Year and Welcome 2025! Our first Kid’s Corner Newsletter of the year is out now! Our cover features some long-term shelter residents that were here ringing in the new year with us. Inside, kids will learn the many benefits of walking dogs for “Walk Your Dog Month” as well as some helpful tips to be prepared to take their four-legged companions for a stroll. Have your kids explore a list of ideas to give back to animals in the new year and learn how to keep animals safe in the cold weather season. Jump into some fun with a word search, maze, and coloring pages! Don't miss our monthly book recommendation. We have been recently updating our Humane Education Library with some seasonal books for children to read during their Tales for Tails visit. To learn more about Humane Education programming and to access this issue of the Kid’s Corner Newsletter visit: https://www.rescueleague.org/humane-ed.

Little Gizzy didn't know this is what life could be like! She's warm, happy and well fed. Most of all now she knows love ❤🐾

"We have been eager to share her successes thus far. Gizzy is adjusting well. She has been exceptionally snuggly; her happiest when snoring alongside us on the couch, emphasis on the snoring :) She is slowly gaining confidence— exploring her new home and mastering the stairs. Her walk gets taller by the day— the days of crawling around will be a thing of the past, her new butt-wagging trot slowly emerging. She has done a fantastic job potty training— no accidents in the house at all and even whining when she’s ready for another trip outside. We can’t thank you enough for all of the work you all put in at ARL. We are incredibly grateful for our sweet girl. Happy New Year!"

Christmas Birthdays? Do we love them or hate them?

Just asking for our 10 newest friends.

Luna spent Christmas day (like the entire day!) delivering 10 beautiful puppies.

Momma Luna has been doing a fantastic job caring for them, but she’s too tired (as is her midwife…also known as the person typing this) to come up with names for her 6 little boys, and 4 little girls. That’s where you come in. Comment a name idea, whether it be a name for one puppy or a theme idea for the lot of them. The staff will then take your suggestions and we will run them by Luna for her final approval. We'll let you know what she decided at the beginning of the new year!

As I’m sure all of you parents (of pets and children) are aware, raising kids can be expensive. So if you wanted to make a donation to help care for Luna and the lot (and everyone else in the shelter), there’s a donation link in the comments. We are ever so thankful!

Hilda, our blind Great Dane, is bringing a whole new meaning to holiday chic! ✨ This blind beauty is stealing hearts in her cozy Christmas sweater, showing the world that confidence is always in style. 💅❤️

After 485 days at the shelter, Hilda is ready to leave her runway behind and step into a forever home filled with love. She may not see the world, but she feels it with every wag of her tail! Hilda is 3 years old and is searching for an adult home where she can be the only pet. What can we say... this girl loves the spotlight! She’s affectionate, playful, and ready to bring joy and laughter to her new family.

Take it from us, Hilda is Pawfect! 🐶💖 To learn more about Hilda, please visit our website at https://www.rescueleague.org/dogs or call 603-472-3647 to schedule an appointment to meet her.

Our Story

The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that helps more than 2,200 cats, dogs, and small animals each year. The ARLNH was founded in 1902 and incorporated in 1904. In 1942, the ARLNH's first shelter facility was opened in Goffstown in a renovated home. In 1998, we opened our new facility in Bedford.

Being more than a shelter, the ARLNH also employs one of only three shelter-based Animal Cruelty Investigators in the state. To help people who love their pets, but are currently struggling to care for them, the ARLNH offers community outreach programs, such as a Pet Food Pantry and Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinics.

Many of our services are open to all residents of NH, with focus on the local communities of Amherst, Auburn, Bedford, Brookline, Candia, Dunbarton, Francestown, Goffstown, Hollis, Hooksett, Litchfield, Londonderry, Lyndeborough, Manchester, Merrimack, Milford, Mont Vernon, New Boston, Peterborough, Wilton, and Windham.

The ARLNH receives no state or federal funding and is almost entirely dependent upon donations. Make a tax-deductible donation, and support us today!
