The best place to be at 6 AM is watching the garden wake up. Amazing.
We’ll be at a pop up shop at Smoothin’ & Groovin’ today from 10-3. I cut the lettuce and Swiss chard today. Zucchini and squash are ready to go. Only thing sprayed on them was rain. We have blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries…well, we will see if they get there without being eaten first.

What’s for breakfast, lunch, and supper, and every hour in between.

For the sake of saving time during the busy season, you get 4 different things in one post. 🤷🏼‍♀️
1) My bodyguard. Kid likes to take care of his momma.❤️ Ok, it’s really bc he’s scared of the neighbor dogs, but I don’t want to embarrass him.
2) We have organic-fed chicken eggs for farm pick up again.🎉
3) Our flowers are gorgeous this year and we are considering a upick. Interested?🌸
4) Have you met Mr. Thomas? I know, the name is super original.🙄 But, if you say it like “Mr. Thomas” from Narnia, it sounds cool.🦃

🌸Parenting tip...don’t talk to hardworking teens that set their alarms for 6 AM so they can cut flowers before the heat. Evidently they don’t like early morning chatter.

My coffee pot beeped that my miracle drink was ready and a nano-second later I heard feet hit the floor as the little boys jumped out of bed. Drawers opened and slid shut as they found clothes in the dark, then always the first question of the day, “where’s Dad?” Typically the answer is, “in the garden.” If that’s the case they grab their boots and run to get the day started.
If you ever see a farmer that’s wore out by 2 PM, now you know why.🐂🐓🌸🍐🍇🍉🫐🍅🥦🌶

When the little boys show up in the early mornings, look for their boots, and head to the garden...that makes me think we are doing pretty ok with this parenting gig.

Welp. Just hit “place order” on 717 of these babies! My conscience won’t let me buy that much plastic, and paper fiber recycles, so paper fiber it is!♻️ So, who is ready for the summer bounty?☀️🫐🍅 What garden yummies are you most looking forward to eating?

The 2021 Garden Planning meeting is underway! Ricky is all professional by setting everything up in Excel, and Sarah Katherine is very scientific using “Iny, Miny, Miney, Moe” to pick our pepper variety. I’ve learned not to mention flowers to Sophia Grace unless her chores are done...the queen of procrastination can pin “gorgeous” varieties to her flower board for hours upon hours.

Chicken farming at it's best...
Wife: I think we have a critter. We should be getting more eggs than this.
Husband: No, it's because we are getting less day light.
30 MINUTES LATER
Husband runs inside from closing up chicken coop for the night and tells wife, "There is a big *** possum by the coop". Husband runs with gun, wife runs in her bathrobe to hold the flashlight over his shoulder.
2 MINUTES LATER
One dead, big *** possum.
Wife: You should learn to listen to your wife.😁

Looks peaceful, doesn’t it?

This is actually mother/daughter bonding while we laugh about the raindrops running off our noses! The garden was LOADED this morning and we kept on cutting, choosing to find joy in our wet situation.

These beauties are headed to , Grandma, and Natasha at .🌺

If our teenage daughter starts with one of those lovely moods, I'm going to remind her that I voluntarily helped her cut these in the pouring rain this morning. Can't say I don't love her! We picked the biggest and best blooms...in the rain. Go grab some at Blooming Bee and $5 goes to ACH!

These zinnias were grown by the kids of Thorn Tree Ranch. My daughter Willow who is an ambassador for children’s hospital put them in vases....and today these kids will help make a difference in the life of another child fighting a hard battle 💛
