Hee-haw, friends! Samson here, your trusty correspondent for Straight from the Rescues' Mouths, bringing you the latest and greatest from Illinois Horse Rescue of Will County. There’s always something going on around here—some of it exciting, some of it a little bittersweet, but always worth a good bray. Let’s get to it, shall we?

First off, I hope you all had a hoof-tastic Thanksgiving! We sure did, and we’re so grateful for all your support. Seriously, you’re the hay to our manger, the apple to our treat bucket—you get the idea. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve been able to keep the critters fed, cared for, and downright spoiled.

Big news: our fence makeover is DONE! The electric rope is up and the old wood is being repurposed into cozy little shelters for the us. Reduce, reuse, recycle, right? Oh, and Farm and Fleet had an early Black Friday sale, so we scored shavings for $4.50 a bag instead of the usual $7! Talk about a steal—we were down to just 10 bags, so the timing was perfect. Who knew a donkey could get so excited about shavings?

Our sweet, handsome Corona has been waiting here 1,421 days (almost 4 years!) for his forever home. This big guy came to us when his previous owners moved out of the country, and he’s been patiently dreaming of a loving place to call his own.

Corona would thrive with a confident, intermediate rider—he can have a bit of spirit! Because of his navicular condition, he’s best suited for light work and a gentle, light rider. He wears front shoes with pads to keep him comfy and takes pain meds to help him feel his best. But more than anything, he’d love a quiet pasture alone to enjoy life at his own pace.

It's Mani-Pedi Day at the Rescue!

We absolutely love it when the farrier visits to give our hooves (aka feet) a good trim! It keeps us feeling our best and moving comfortably. Some of us need just a simple trim, which costs $45, while others require horseshoes and pads, which can run up to $110 per horse.

We have been having a week... Our lawn mower decided to stop working as we were cutting the grass. Yes it has gas and oil!
