It’s better to be safe than sorry, so check which type of lily you are purchasing before you bring any flowers or plants into your home. Lilies are beautiful plants which may brighten your home, but they are highly toxic to your cat. All

If you have outdoor cats or backyard poultry, you may want to remove your bird feeder.

Help prevent contact between wild birds, poultry, and pets by removing sources of food, water, and shelter that attract wild birds.

There's a lot of talk of avian flu (H5N1) and cats. However, dogs and other mammals can also be susceptible to the disease. Working dogs (police K9s, livestock guardian dogs, and hunting dogs) that have a higher risk of being in contact with contaminated wild birds should be given the bivalent canine influenza vaccine to potentially help give some cross protection.

We know dogs can get H5N1, the circulating strain of HPAI. But the bivalent canine influenza vaccine is for H3 strains, so we are assuming some cross-protection based on human seasonal influenza studies. We know that direct contact with sick or dead birds is a high risk factor for transmission, so we are assuming that livestock guardian and birding dogs are more likely to have this exposure. Police K9s may be less likely, especially in urban areas, but it is dependent on how many dead birds are being reported. So there are assumptions to the advice to vaccinate working dogs with a related strain of influenza vaccine.

Birthday happenings ❤️ Even though today was not one of Bree’s better days, we all took time to celebrate her on her special day. Bree was recently diagnosed with cancer. Her mom, Susanne, who is also our practice manager, and her dad Ian had hoped that she would make it to her special day. And she did. All of our BVH family came together, goodies in hand, to celebrate Bree. She definitely enjoyed her special birthday cake and all of the other goodies. We love you, sweet girl.❤️

Happy Birthday to our special girl Bree❤️ Stop by today to say happy birthday and take a picture in our photo both 📸
