Fun show at the barn today! Lots of great moments of riding, learning, laughing and making memories!

Thanks for all the parents who support their daughters passion for riding and to our camp and lesson helpers Hailey Poepping , Cami, Marie Gabriel and Jaclyn Stumpf .

Extra thanks to Karen Krueger Brown who brought a truckload of show clothes for all the riders to borrow and organized our snacks and Cathy Berg Moeger for filling in everywhere else.

Lastly our volunteer judge Maizy Hafemeyer who was encouraging to every rider and a great inspiration to our littlest riders.

Our Lost Creek Ranch Show Team riders work hard to prepare for shows. We do Western Dressage and Traditional Dressage shows and we do it to test our ability to remain cool under pressure, support our horse (being the calm safe leader for them) and to see how our training is going.

Through shows we learn to regulate our emotions in order to help our horses. We learn to rely on ourselves and trust our instincts (Dressage and Western Dressage means its just you and your horse in the arena riding a test for 5 minutes).

But maybe most important we learn to laugh at our mistakes, celebrate our accomplishments, support our team, put our horses needs first and leave the barn and showgrounds cleaner than when we arrived.

We had lots to celebrate at this show! Shannon getting 68% and several blue ribbons on her cantering tests, Violet going to her very first show and ending the weekend in the high 60s, Team Finnegan (our little riders Addie and Cece) showing in Training Level (cantering tests) and improving dramatically to a 66% and 66.5% on the last day!

And Cami came home Wisconsin Western Dressage Jr State Champion with her ottb mare Riddle!

Behind the scenes we had grandmas, moms, grandpas and extra help from Claire who wasn't showing but spent her whole weekend helping team Nickers and the rest of us!

For those of you who haven't heard we suffered a devastating tragedy over the weekend when two of our beloved mares- Dani and Margaret were killed by a lightning strike standing side by side in their pasture.

It is a very sad time for us. They were not school horses but were horses ridden by several teens and interns over the past couple of years.

The whole barn is feeling this loss.

This is an article about one of riders and recent high school grad Claire John .

I'm happy she and her family are sharing their story. Its a story so many families can relate to.

This is the magic that happens every day at Lost Creek Ranch ! Our horses have helped heal so many over the years by just being- just being a quiet presence, just being a willing partner, just being enough of a challenge or just being "needy" enough to pull someone out of their darkness and help them feel the love that can't always be felt from other humans.

You might not know this but horses are So sensitive they can feel a humans heartbeat from 4 feet away! They can also synchronize their heartbeat to their person.

Take a minute and think about that...

In a hurry? Feeling anxious? Scared? Sad? The horse feels and responds to that before the person has even come close enough to touch them!

Imagine how much emotional regulation it takes to get your own body in a place where the horse Wants and Chooses to be around you. But riders of all ages can do it. And they practice it every day at Lost Creek Ranch .

Imagine being a middle school kid- thats hard even on a good day! Now imagine coming to the barn after a long day of school and seeing "your" horse. The change in the human is almost instant. The breathing slows, the eyes soften, the positive energy can be felt throughout the herd.

That middle schooler feels seen, important, loved and like a leader. The horse feels seen, important, loved and safe because they have a leader.

Do this day after day, week after week and riders become strong and resilient. Able to recover from setbacks, able to see challenges as opportunities and able to adapt to any situation on the spot.

We're so happy that Claire is sharing her success and we know she has a big life ahead of her and it will always include horses!

Hello Everyone ! We are in Fundraising mode again because we need your help to stock up on hay now while its most available and affordable to get through fall and winter.

We have some on hold at just $5 per bale. Please consider donating to our Hay Fund to keep our programs going as we rebuild after our funding was cut without warning in January.

Share this and spread the word! Lost Creek Ranch offers lessons, horse leases, day camps and summer saddle club- our goal is to grow our programs and be able to make horses available to everyone regardless of ability to pay.

Get ready for our Schooling Show on Sunday Oct 25th. Open to ALL Lost Creek Ranch riders! In addition to dressage and western dressage we have added Dressage/Western Dressage Seat Equitation classes which are similar to rail classes and focus on the riders effective position and balance in a dressage or western saddle.
Sign up sheet will be in the barn and our group lessons will begin to focus on how to ride in the equitation classes and what will be asked for and judged.
