Doing sketchy farm s**t!
I push around/ride 1200lb horses so I consider myself having really good balance, and stronger than the average girl. With a ā€œhere, hold my beerā€œ attitudeā€¦ what could go wrong?

14ā€™ arena doors with openers is great and all, but before a power outage, who thinks to practice pulling that cordā€¦WAY up there!!! ļæ¼AND, the amount of force it takes to unlock that chainā€¦.is more than I can pullā€¦ while riding the roll bar on top of my tractor. And donā€™t suggest ladder, thereā€™s no freaking way Iā€™m getting up on top of ļæ¼my 12ā€™ ladder to try to pull that cord! Mission failed!
I donā€™t believe this is OSHA approved!ļæ¼
I am a professional
Do not try this at home!

RIP Pop Tart we will miss your ā€œannouncingā€ all visitors. How funny you were to watch in your swimming pool. We thank you for delivering delicious, double yolked, ginormous eggs, and how sweet you were. Iā€™m so sorry I couldnā€™t get to the neighbors cat before he got to you. Ember and I will miss you!šŸ˜¢šŸ’¦šŸ˜

And for Whiskers or whatever your name is (and your owners) You killed Sweety Pie and now PopTart died from the injuries youā€™ve inflicted. Why you take a ā€œpetā€ in and leave them to roam the neighborhood makes zero sense to me. Unfortunately, next time is not a warning shot.

UPDATE: Cash-114 days post surgery - ā€œLivin OnA Prayerā€ šŸ™šŸ»

I am sooo sorry I left you all hanging. When it rains it pours. Cash is healing nicely. He is finally made it back on full rations of hay!! Heā€™s been eating really well to date. He has tested my limits by colicing 3 times. Most recently we made it to 90 days and he coliced on day 91ā€¦. because heā€™s Cash šŸ¤£ Each time has been managed at home thankfully. He is still wearing the mask in his stall at night because he canā€™t be trusted not to occasionally eat sawdust, or my barn. I think itā€™s safe to say the adhesions have resolved. He has rotated 3Ā° in one front foot but not lame at all. šŸ™Œ He needs to go back to work soon, he takes his job being an a$$hole very seriously! šŸ¤£
As for the reason for the delayā€¦. His mama. Jan 31st, 6 weeks ago today, Ellie went from being a little sore to not being able to walk and barely stand in 7 days. The coffin bones in her front feet had rotated 9Ā° There was serious concern I was going to have to put her down. We threw a bunch of meds at her for better blood circulation and comfort. The farrier put special glue on/bondo shoes to get the pressure off her tendons, I call them stilettos šŸ„¹Success! We are again resetting her shoes today, she is still on decent meds, weā€™ve eliminated 1 pain med, and X-rays are taken approx every 2 weeks to check progress. I have built her a 12x12 stall outside and now have permission from the vet to ONLY walk her from inside to her outside stall so she can go out with everyone else, for her sanity and mine. Prayers for continued healing.

Because I insist on my plate being full but who would have known just how full, a happy farm note! The secret Iā€™ve kept long enough, due to no shortage of dramaā€¦. Having TWO babies!!! Horse babies of course! The countdown is on!!!

UPDATE:47 days post surgery-
CASH-Livin OnA Prayer šŸ™šŸ»

First, I apologize to everyone for not getting back to your messages. ļæ¼I sincerely appreciate your continued support.
I feel a huge sense of relief and maybe a little hope this week. Itā€™s not been without struggles but I can see light.
I have taken him off pain meds a week ago. He still has a pulse in his RF foot but walks out anļæ¼d turns without pain. His incision looks fantastic! Weā€™ve had one scary colic day, further convincing me he was regularly eating the shavings at MSU (I have since learned this is not uncommon for horses on a low ļæ¼bulk diet). After reviewing the camera footage that morning, at 3AM he managed to get his muzzle off, laid down, and ate sawdust for two hours. Fortunately, colic was managed at the farm. Once again, Iā€™ve had to pull out my nurse Ratched skills. He now wears a halter, his grazing muzzle, and another screened muzzle over top of the grazing muzzle to avoid sawdust in the grazing muzzle . Because that still ļæ¼wasnā€™t good enough, Iā€™ve had to hand sew an additional mesh fabric to the outside of the grazing muzzle. Iā€™ve learned the screened muzzle straps must be threaded into the grazing muzzle, AND Iā€™ve had to take his blanket clips and attach his halter and the two muzzles all together. Stillā€¦ he outplays me. Four times now ļæ¼this week, heā€™s managed to get all three off by rubbing the wall and using his back feet to scratch off his halter. SO thankful to have the camera system to figure this out immediately.
Basic care: Weā€™ve graduated to the hand walking stage. We are giving the track shoes a workout. We get our 10,000+ steps in walking 2.5hrs before each feeding. Heā€™s out 8x/day to relieve some of the boredom, get the masks off, and has plenty of water access at those times. He admires looking at himself in the mirrorā€™s around the arena, we listen to music, changing directions at the end of every song, and play ā€œfreezeā€ to keep his ļæ¼mind thinking.
Food: Iā€™ve decreased the water to break down his senior ā€œsoupā€ from 10L to 2 cups/per feeding since he came home 3 weeks ago. I am still feeding 4 times a day due to the huge quantity of feed he has to eat without being able to eat hay. I have slowly added back in beet pulp, he is up to 2lbs/dayšŸ’ƒthatā€™s where he was pre-surgery!
If I could read his mind, I do think he has accepted he doesnā€™t get a hay bag like everyone else. He doesnā€™t seem so depressed after eating, listening to everyone else munch away.
I give him an opportunity once or twice a week in his stall without the mask, to see if heā€™ll eat sawdust, he doesļæ¼. He will continue to wear the masks as long as thatā€™s a problem.
This is all great progress. We will continue to take it slowly in hopes that the adhesions from surgery will resolve on their own. If not, the surgeons agree he is a great candidate for a second surgery. It will be planned, heā€™ll be well rested, and at a time where his intestines are not inflamed. Weā€™ve all agreed that should not happen before the 90 day mark and not in an emergency situation to give him the best outcome.
Thank you all so much for your concern and continued prayers for Cash. ļæ¼ šŸ’•šŸ’•šŸ’•ļæ¼

Our Story

Old Orchard Arabians is new to the small town of Belding, Michigan. It was love at first sight one Sunday afternoon. And to make a long story short, the property was purchased in September 2017.

Growing up with a passion for Arabian horses, I never imagined in my wildest dreams ā€œthisā€ could ever come true. A passion that has taken on a vision of itā€™s own here on our 32 acre ā€œold orchardā€ property. A place where my Half-Arabian mare Freedmā€™s Painted Lady (aka Ellie) will spend the rest of her life, along side her first foal Livinā€™ on a Prayer (pending) (aka Cash) and many more to come. A place where I can build my dream home, my dream barn and create a place that our children, and our childrens children, can enjoy for years to come. The property now, is a vision. Others look at it and think or say ā€œits a lot of workā€. It is a lot of work! There will always be a project. There will always be something to keep me moving, to keep me dreaming. The ā€œold orchardā€ is just perfect ...in my eyes.

I look forward to sharing with you all kinds of before and after photos and videos on our progress. All kinds of two and four legged shenanigans. Wildlife photos. Likely a few deer hunting stories. And sharing in the journey of pouring heart and soul into one wild and crazy dream.

For now, the dream for 2018 includes three or four additional pastures, a round pen and an outdoor riding arena alongside the two pastures and indoor arena.
