Dark Star, a "$6,500 bargain basement beauty" wins the 1953 Kentucky Derby by a head from heavy favorite Native Dancer.
Native Dancer, who was jostled around the first turn and lost his stride, was unable to catch the front-running Dark Star. Jockey Hank Moreno was able to keep Dark Star out of trouble by taking him straight to the lead, which he held start to finishNative Dancer, who came into the race undefeated, would never be defeated again. Dark Star, who had also won the Derby Trial Stakes the week before, would never win again

Julie is really filling out well now & looking right. If you’re looking for that young filly that’ll be the right kind for a trail partner & future brood mare, this is her folks. She’s bred to for the natural gait and sound mind of the walking horse & in particular, the buds sterling bullet/ red buds rascal breeding that she’s heavy in. I know I’m partial but you just don’t find any better bloodlines for a trail/pleasure horse. We still need a good registered name for her though, I do have one in mind. Won’t reveal it just yet but it’s a good one.
