These past few months have been a whirlwind of emotions, and while I’ll never quite be able to express them all clearly, I owe it to many to try.
It is an honor to be awarded Horse Trainer of the Year, and I know it is only possible because of the incredible animals and people I have had the privilege to learn from.
In June we lost our horses. These animals were our students, our teachers, our passion, and our friends. We helped each other grow. As I formed bonds with each horse I watched their owners grow in love and understanding too. Some found a four legged confidant, some found a new hobby to enjoy with friends, some reached goals in the show pen; all thanks to their horse.
As we still navigate through this grief it also highlighted a lot for me to be thankful for. My Priest Performance Horse team has been so patient and understanding allowing me time to heal physically as we work through this loss. They have stuck together to look out for one another. They have constantly had my back. I am so impressed and honored to be their coach.
Brandon and Cathy Brant and Julia Roshelli took care of everything while I was in the hospital. They made unimaginable phone calls and laid our horses to rest, then they did a million more things I will never know about to allow me time to heal. The Brant team took care of the horses we still had in training and kept my business going as they worked through chaos and heartbreak. The Brants and their team, employees and clients alike, ensured I had everything I needed in the moment and when I got home. You don’t get friends like them everyday, and I’m confident at this point we’re family.
I am blessed that so many people reached out to check in on me and the barn team. We would not be where we are today without our friends, family, and new friends from across the country.
Thank you from Summer and I for the outpouring of support. It is incredible and much appreciated.
So thank you and God bless you all.
I promise I will work hard to make the forty-five proud.

It’s that time of year when we start gearing up again for another fun, busy show season! We have been keeping busy and owe some special shout outs to some very dedicated and hard working riders who checked off some big goals this past year.

Congratulations to Taryn Homier and her mare Surprize and Sparkle CORHA Green Horse Champions! Bringing home a buckle and many other prizes. This team has worked extremely hard and grown so much; we can’t wait to see what this season holds for them!

Another big shout out to Evan Rogers and his gelding Netflix N Chill (Dudley) on their 14-18 youth 7th place NRHA World Champion finish! Incredible progress in and out of the show pen this year for this team - it’s been very fun to coach them.

Keep an eye out for these names and more members of the Priest Performance Horse team this upcoming show season!

Our Story

Trainer Eric Priest is a graduate of The University of Findlay holding a bachelor’s degree in Equine Business Management and Western Equestrian Studies. Originally from Grover Hill, Ohio, Eric has travelled across the country to learn from a multitude of NRHA professionals and develop his own reining program. Eric began his focus on reining when he worked as a college intern for Matt Flarida, one of the best in the industry. It was during this internship that Eric established a passion for the sport of reining. Upon graduation, Eric moved down to Texas and began starting and training c**ts up to three-year-olds for “Three Million Dollar Rider” Tim McQuay. With a desire to spend more time in the show pen, Eric later began working for renowned showman and non-pro coach Dutch Chapman in Maryland. During Eric’s first year showing he earned the title “NRHA Rookie Professional Reserve World Champion” upon Who Whiz McMurtry (owned by Holly Bray). In addition to holding top rankings in the world, Eric was awarded “Northeast Affiliate Champion” and “EPRHA End Year High Point Earner.” Eric was not only concentrated on his own show record as he helped coach non-pros to Affiliate Championships and multiple year end High Points and awards. Eric truly enjoys helping non-pros become stronger reiners and happily accepts any opportunity to work with anyone wanting to learn more about the world of riding, no matter degree of experience. His passion for horses is only strengthened by his love for people as evident in his training program for green to accomplished horses and riders.
