Meet Cardi B, a box turtle that we have been rehabbing for the past month. Cardi B came in with a previous history of partial leg amputation due to a tumor. Unfortunately the part of the leg that remained got infected which caused her to stop eating. We determined that Cardi B was in pain and she would require further surgery. We stabilized her with fluids, antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, and Cardi B started eating again. On Monday we anesthetized her and Dr Oakley removed the remainder of the infected leg, all the way up to the shoulder joint. Cardi B did well with surgery and here she is today during her physical therapy session. She is getting around great and is going to continue her rehab with a wild life rehab specialist. When Cardi B has recovered, she will return to the Plainflield Wildlife Preserve to enjoy life! 🐢❤️
Well it looks like Stella will be arriving shortly. Due to the very large amount of snow that she is bringing, we will not be open Tuesday, March 14th. If you need to get in touch with us, you may send us an email or Facebook message. If you are experiencing an emergency with your pet, NorthStar VETS and Animerge are prepared to help.
Our house cat, Mabel suggests viewing the snow from inside where it is cozy and warm. But she says that if you have a silly dog or cat that likes to play in the snow, she would like you to share a picture with us! Stay safe and warm!

And a big Happy Birthday to Sandy, our client service representative that always wears a smile!
We had an exciting day with exotics yesterday. Pilot, an Eastern Box Turtle, presented for a swelling on the right side of his head. After a skull X-ray, Dr Oakley confirmed that Pilot would need to be sedated to treat an ear abscess. Dr Oakley made an small incision over the area, flushed with copious amounts of saline and removed a plug of infected material. The area was then filled with appropriate antibiotics. Pilot is quietly recovering today. His owner will continue antibiotics at home and keep Dr Oakley up to date with Pilot's recovery. #hvc #harlingenveterinaryclinic #easternboxturtle #exoticvet #pilot via Ripl.com

Keeping your indoor cat mentally stimulated is very important for their overall health. Bird feeders provide just enough for our little girl Mabel. Every morning Mabel waits for us to fill the feeders and then she waits for the assortment of birds to show up. Here Mabel is checking out today's guests.

Pikachu came to visit us to have his eyes checked. After a thorough exam, Dr Oakley confirmed conjunctivitis and prescribed eye ointment. Pikachu will be back to normal in no time! #hvc #harlingenveterinaryclinic #exotics #exoticvet #pikachu #chinchilla via Ripl.com
Hedgie the hedgehog came in for his first physical exam today with Dr Oakley. Did you know that a group of hedgehogs is called an array? And a baby hedgehog is called a hoglet? Hedgehogs also enjoy the occasional swim! #hvc #harlingenveterinaryclinic #hedgie #hedgehog via Ripl.com
This is Pusheen! This poor girl was hiding under a bush for over a week. Thankfully she was noticed by our clients and with the help of #RedOakAnimalRescue she was out of the cold and off the streets for good. They named her #Pusheen after the grey comic cat since they seem to have a similar physique! As you can see, this Pusheen is very sweet and a bit on the "big boned" side. Because of her size, Pusheen needed medical attention due to some urine scalding. Dr Zydiak examined her and quickly prescribed some medication and a diet. Pusheen will recover just fine. Off to a foster she went for the holidays and if her owner is not found she will be up for adoption through Red Oak Ankmal Rescue! #hvc #harlingenveterinaryclinic #roar #redoakanimalreacue #pusheen #christmas via Ripl.com
