We have had a great first season of our TNR program! With that said, we are shortly coming to the end of our season.

The Blue Collar directly will no longer be selling vouchers for TNR surgeries. We have a few affiliations that still have vouchers available- Four County Vet Services and Sandusky County Humane Society. Once vouchers are sold out or as of September first, whichever comes first, we will no longer have vouchers available for purchase as this will end our season.

We will still accept vouchers that were purchased this season and have not been scheduled yet this.
If you are looking for additional resources for spay/neuter of outdoor cats, we recommend contacting Humane Ohio in Toledo.

If you have purchased a voucher this season and have not scheduled, please do so as we are filling up. We are currently booking out 4-6 weeks and want to get everyone in before winter.

Thank you all for your support! We do plan to have our TNR program start up again early next year.

Our TNR slots for the summer are filling up fast! We are currently booking out 3-4 weeks. Purchase a voucher from an affiliated organization or call/text us at 419-366-6039 for more details!

From TBC and Humane Society of Erie County Ohio staff we want to thank everyone for their donations so far!! ❤️

We have had so many donations over the last 24 hours and we are SO beyond grateful for all the support!

The Humane Society would like to get as many animals into foster homes or adopted as possible.
If you are interested in adopting or fostering a cat or dog, please contact the Humane Society of Erie County Ohio page or via email to get in contact with their staff.

We are still accepting any donations!
At this time we are not accepting volunteers due to the potential of contagious diseases and the animals being stressed from all the movement and change. We are trying to keep animal handling to a minimum to reduce stress!

Once again, THANK YOU!❤️

Important read for anyone who adopts or rescues a pet.
06/14/2023

Important read for anyone who adopts or rescues a pet.

"He's afraid of X, so he must have been abused by/with X."

In rescue, a lot of dogs come into care with unknown histories. Many of these dogs present with specific or generalized fear and anxiety.

It can be easy - so, SO easy - to attach a story to their behaviour. In fact, it's becoming increasingly common for people to adopt dogs BECAUSE of their story. The more tragic, the better.

The problem with this is that it tends to freeze dogs into their neuroses. Their owner becomes so attached to the story, so emotionally invested, that they themselves cannot move past it. When the owner gets stuck, so does the dog.

Then the story becomes an excuse.

He's aggressive to the postman because one must have abused him.

He's leash reactive to other dogs because he was a 'bait dog'.

He runs from us when we grab the fly swat because someone has hit him with it.

In most cases, these behaviours are caused from a lack of experience in the critical period of socialization. Their inexperience can present itself as fear, anxiety, stress and aggression; mechanisms they develop over time to cope.

But what exactly caused their rescued dogs behaviour is irrelevant. It's a fools errand to try to figure it out; an addictive oxytocin-fueled quest to justify a lack of action.

He's afraid of men? Make men = good things. He runs from the fly swatter? Pick the damn thing up and throw the dog a handful of steak a few times. See what happens.

When we adopt a dog, we're making a commitment to BETTER their life. Holding on to their past is doing the opposite. Show them they're in a better place by overcoming their problems, not nurturing them.

Meet The Blue Collar boys, “Mac and Cheese!”

Macaroni and Cheese Puff are our new kennel kitties!
We will be raising these boys to be good test subjects for cat testing any future dogs to see if they are friendly with cats and can live in a house with kitties.
It is very important that dogs are tested with cats to see how they interact before they are placed into a house together. This helps avoid any injuries or additional stress on either party! Especially if the dog or cat has never been exposed to the other species before.

As you can see Mac is adjusting well to dog exposure with Marvin our rescue coordinators dog🥺 Cheese is okay with their presence as long as he is not cornered!

The boys will also be great companions for our staff to love on and cuddle when they need a boost ❤️

We are excited to see these little ones grow and develop into their big cat personalities!
Huge thank you and shout out to Humane Society of Erie County Ohio for these two bundles of joy!!
