We are so proud to be saving and serving pets in a community that truly cherishes them as members of their family. While we work on getting those cats and dogs from Southern California ready for their big debut, let's celebrate the 101 pets who found their new families last week! OK, now it's back to work so we can complete even more families in the days to come.

After a long flight and a few winks of sleep last night, we're getting these cats and dogs ready for what we hope will be a very busy day in our adoption lobby on Tuesday. These shelter pets didn't find homes before the wildfires hit, and now they're in the Pacific Northwest and freeing up space in shelters in the Los Angeles area to tend to pets displaced in the wildfires and hopefully reunite them all with their families!

Seattle Humane has received 39 dogs and 18 cats from Los Angeles area shelters, which are currently experiencing overcrowding due to the raging wildfires.

We're loaded up and ready to roll out! We're bringing 39 dogs and 18 cats back from Boeing Field after a long flight out of Southern California. Thank you to our friends at for making this rescue flight happen!

Foxface is one of several chihuahuas seized by Renton Animal Control in a recent hoarding case that made their way here to Seattle Humane last week. It's been a big change for these little dogs, and they can't wait to finally find some stability in loving homes. This will likely involve lots of hugs and baby talk, but we know our Rescue Squad is up to the task!

We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support we've received since announcing the impending arrival of shelter pets from Southern California, and they haven't even boarded the plane yet! A lot of folks have been asking how they can support this lifesaving work, so we thought we'd break that down for you.

Donations: Around 84% of our revenue comes from monetary donations from our Rescue Squad: https://seattlehumane.donorsupport.co/page/LArescue?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=ER25
Volunteering: We have around 200 amazing volunteers here at Seattle Humane helping support our mission of saving and serving pets in need. If you are interested in joining in that effort, please click this link to see what positions are available: https://www.seattlehumane.org/get-involved/volunteer/
Fostering: We have an amazing network of foster parents we call on when pets in our care need extra TLC. We expect most of these pets coming in on Sunday will be ready to be adopted by Tuesday, but we can always use more fosters parents to help us with large dogs who need more space. You can see where we have the greatest need and sign up to foster here: https://www.seattlehumane.org/adoption/foster-a-pet/
In-kind donations: If you would like to help our Lifesaver Rescue team restock in anticipation of checking in all of our guests, you can find their wish list here: https://www.seattlehumane.org/ways-to-give/give-supplies/

We appreciate you all and hope to be able to help our shelter partners in Southern California again very soon! Again, many of the pets coming in through Wings of Rescue on Sunday should be available by Tuesday, but we have many pets ready to go home right now, which is another great way to free up space for Seattle Humane to continue answering calls for support. Thank you to our Rescue Squad!

It was a hot night in August when a blue Mustang pulled up to the edge of a rural King County property and unceremoniously pushed Iggy out of the passenger side. This sweet pittie did his best to catch up to the sports car as it sped away, but to no avail. Thankfully, the property owner witnessed all of this happening and took Iggy in. He brought him to Seattle Humane the very next day. Understandably, Iggy struggled with separation anxiety and wanted to keep his people close, especially during his periodic shelter breaks. He also struggled with some naughty behaviors like being mouthy when overstimulated. Pitbulls already experience a longer length of stay in shelters on average, and especially ones as large as Iggy. But Iggy was also a very charming and charismatic dog, and he made many fans here at Seattle Humane during his extended stay. Exactly four months after being pushed out of a car, Iggy was hopping in one with his new family and heading home! Iggy’s new dad recently shared some lovely photos of him settling in and this one line: “Iggy living the good life.” That’s almost one word for every week this good boy has been adopted!

We don't know where these rain clouds came from, but Apollo wants you to know he tried his best to bring the sun out! And he's trying is doggone darnedest to find his new family, so we'll shine a little light on this good boy. He came to us through our friends at the Whatcom Humane Society last Saturday. He'd been part of a seizure case involving more than 20 dogs, and he enjoyed play groups back at WHS. Unlike the sun, Apollo is easy enough to harness but, just like that Greek god, he is used to roaming. Harness this good boy for your family today!

Holy Shih Tzu, would you look at Mable and Dipper! They got all dressed up for their trip here from the Auburn Valley Humane Society. Don't let the facial hair fool you - they are young, spry and not very shy. Grab a sweater and pay them a visit at Seattle Humane!

The name is Snow Globe, but we should probably change it to Snow Cone, right? This beautiful baby boy came to us from Cat Rescue Squad in Arlington, Washington back in early December. In that short amount of time, Snow Globe has been through it all - a little ringworm exposure, upper respiratory infection and an umbilical hernia. Hey, and why don't we add to that a ventricular septic defect, which is a small hole in his heart. It's something his new family will need to monitor closely with a cardiologist for his whole life. This brave, little guy has been through so much, and he's only been alive for three months. We hope so much that he finds people who will give him the best life and cherish the time they have together. Nothing in life is certain, but it's undeniable that Snow Globe deserves a loving home! We can't fill the hole in the heart, but maybe he can fill the one in yours. 🙏🐾❤

The incredible devastation unfolding in Southern California can't be understated and, like so many across the country, we are witnessing these raging wildfires and looking for ways to help those who have lost so much. That is why we've joined our friends with Wings of Rescue and Paws For Life K9 Rescue to pull pets from shelters in the Los Angeles area and bring them here on a much-needed rescue flight. This will free up shelters to intake the many pets displaced by these wildfires and hopefully reunite them with their families. This Wings of Rescue flight will be landing in Boeing Field on Sunday, and we hope to begin the long process of checking in more than 60 pets on Monday in time for many of them to be available for adoption when we open on Tuesday. Now is a great time to adopt and help us reduce our current shelter population. Please also keep an eye out for the special icon that will be affixed to the profile photos of the pets pulled from Southern California. We hope to be able to offer more assistance to our embattled shelter partners in the future!

Celeste has some stiff com-pet-ition in the Biggest Ears category here at Seattle Humane! Mocha just arrived from Yakima Humane the other day and is also ready to find her new family - with any luck she won't be here for more than 140 days like Celeste. Rather than give us an earful in the comment section, you can get here ear-ly and meet them both!

It's 5 o'clock somewhere and, even if it wasn't, this smooth Bourbon can be enjoyed anytime! This little love just arrived from our friends at Yakima Humane and is ready to make you feel all warm inside. Any feelings of euphoria are totally normal, and you can still operate heavy machinery with this Bourbon, but we recommend keeping her away from said machinery for obvious reasons. If those reasons are not obvious, you may already be drunk. All others can get behind the wheel and meet Bourbon down at Seattle Humane!

Rufus is capable of making viral TikToks with his amazing acting skills but, for some reason, he just can't seem to attract a family audience to bring him home! He's as smart as he is handsome, walks well on a leash, is a chew toy connoisseur and knows all the basic training cues. He's been giving award-winning performances here since early November, and we think it's time he took his show on the road!

It doesn't matter what time of day it is - Zoey is always down to cuddle! This easygoing 8-year-old pittie mix has been waiting to find a family here at Seattle Humane since mid-November. She's watched Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Christmas and New Year's Eve pass by without a family to call her own. We hope to see her giving her people big, wet kisses well before Valentine's Day! She's hanging out upstairs with Social Media Guy today, so just ask an adoption advisor to have him bring her down for a visit.

This Chocolate Shake won't give you brain freeze, but he will give you lots of warm kisses! This senior pittie came to us from the Blue Mountain Humane Society back in mid-December, and he spent several weeks in a foster home as our vet team did more lab work on this old boy. We removed a malignant mass and he's been healing up from that, but it's hard to say if it will come back or spread. Chocolate Shake doesn't know any of this, of course. He knows that he loved spending time with the dogs in his foster home, the best way to get someone's attention is to make Chewbacca noises, he can't get enough squeaky toys, and going to the office with his foster mom to be the center of attention was the best! He may not be a puppy, but we know the right family will ensure Chocolate Shake's best years are ahead of him!

Leia Organa is a pretty princess and expects to be treated as much. She didn't like it at the shelter with all of us scruffy-looking nerf herders, so she took an escape pod to the foster planet where she is feeling much more relaxed. It took her some time to warm up to the humans on that planet, but the resident feline has been vouching for them. You don't have to be an influential senator from Alderaan (RIP) to adopt Leia, but an experienced cat owner who can offer her a quiet home and time to warm up will have the most success. In time, she'll go from Hoth and bothered to a cuddly member of the rebel alliance. Short stormtroopers need not apply!

Dinah is a sweet bowl of Louisiana mew with a side of fluffy biscuits looking to add a little flavor to your family. This is her second time here at Seattle Humane, having come back after a year of not being jazzed about the other pets in the home. Is Dinah a diva? Purrtentially! Is it easy to see why? Absolutely! Come on down and see how much you knead this beautiful biscuit maker.
