Skye Pupdate!
Just over two weeks ago, Skye joined our home as a foster pup from The Student Rescue Project.
✨Then: she was VERY timid and tried her best to hide away in her crate. Jerked away and would tremble when anyone tried to touch her. No aggression what so ever, and didn’t even bark or whine. Would stay in her crate (door open at all times) to keep away from people and other dogs. Scared of having a collar on, unsure of how to walk on a leash.
✨Now: still timid, but will now sit when she’s nervous rather than run and hide. Comes out of her crate and has befriended one of our larger dogs (Skye like to lay behind her!). Enjoys her one on one time with a teenager, and will peek her head out when she hears her voice. She’s found her big appetite! Still no barking, but does look out the windows to keep watch. When it’s time to go outside she runs to the door when she sees her leash. Video below shows her leash walking progress.
Thanks for following along!
Here is a quick video of my rescue Dutch Shepherd, Anubis. He is one of the reasons I preach to research the breed of dog your looking to get, understand their physical and mental needs and HIRE a trainer!
Anubis is ultra high energy, super smart, insanely loyal and can jump like crazy. With some motivation and effort I am sure he could make quick work of a 6 foot stockade fence.
Know what you’re getting in to; and *please* don’t get a puppy biased on how cute it is!
The shelters and rescues are loaded with dogs like Anubis. They need more than the owners can provide; these types of breeds get bored, than get destructive or just “annoying “.
✨ Please contact me if you looking for a dog. I would rather help you pick the best dog for you and your family, than try to help you rehome or help you fix an issue with them later.
This is the reason we started Twin State K-9.
Bailee an 18 month old ,80+ lbs Chocolate Lab. Her owners are retired, with health issues.
Before training, when she walked Bailee in the yard the comment was “She pulled me all over the black yard”.
Below is after a board and train option, and the results speak for themselves.
