Those aren’t Easter eggs, those are struvite bladder stones! When specific bacterial infections and an alkaline urine pH occur in a bladder, a perfect matrix is created for these stones to form. 85% of dogs who develop these stones are females. This sweet 13 year old girl, Sadie, was recently rescued and was diagnosed with these bladder stones. She underwent surgery to remove the stones with Dr. Moreland this week and is home recovering with her new family! Thankfully, we can use prescription diets and regular testing to help acidify the urine pH and keep these stones from recurring! 🥚🪺🐣

On Wednesday 02/26/25, at approximately 7:00am, Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement received a call in reference to their two family dogs that had killed a raccoon in their yard located in the 1300 block of Dumbarton Road, Gastonia, NC.

The office will be open tomorrow during normal business hours, but Dr. Moreland will be leaving at noon so she can attend the celebration of life for her Grandpa. We will be seeing appointments in the morning and tech appointments only in the afternoon. As many of you know, Dr. Moreland is a third generation veterinarian who was greatly inspired by her grandfather’s amazing life and career.

Following the devastation of Helene, this past week has shown what an amazing community we have surrounding us here in Belmont. We were lucky to safely get through the storm at the hospital and have been able to continue to provide care to those in need, including multiple wildlife cases and pets displaced by the severe damage in western NC. These puppies were lucky to have survived and have been rescued by a loving member of our community. At only 5 weeks old and with multiple health concerns, these little guys aren’t out of the woods yet. They will need continued health care over the next few weeks and a massive amount of TLC from their foster until they are ready to go to their new homes. If you would like to donate to their case, feel free to call us to aid in their healthcare costs. They will also be looking for new homes when old enough if you are interested! Our hearts go out to the people and animals that were impacted by Helene as we continue to recover and rebuild. 💜
