Blitz is up to date on his puppy shots. However, until he’s through all rounds of them and had rabies, it really won’t do his immune system super well to be out all over the ground. BUT I still want him to be getting some socialization! How?!?
Socializing your puppy does NOT mean bringing them face to face with other dogs and teaching them to get excited at a young age about other dogs and people.
This is a great structured way (temperatures permitting) to have your puppy out in a safe way while they practice the art of NOT developing EXPECTATIONS from other dogs, other people, or car rides.
I also randomly go out to the car. Sometimes I look in, sometimes I get in the drivers seat and say nothing then get right back out. Sometimes I open the back door then close it again. (It’s not a big deal if I’m coming or going, I don’t say ‘hi’ or ‘bye’. I’m teaching him the car is a safe space and he can be neutral while in the car. I never want the car to be a point of anxiety.
Especially with a higher drive baby like Blitz, something as simple as this will help him build:
💥 impulse control
💥 delayed gratification
💥 neutrality
💥 combats separation anxiety (which Blitz will be prone to)
💥 other dogs and people are not more exciting than me
💥 how to start processing some big feelings in a productive way
💥 how to begin decompressing
💥 it’s okay if he’s not living inside my skin
💥 using his business horn chew to start using his chewing skills for stress relief
He slept for 2 hours after this 😂

Trotter & Blitz want to play so badly but Tora isn’t having it! The protective shepherd nature takes over when the baby is involved.
Tora is using his voice & body language to keep Trotter from playing too rough around Blitz ⚡️
& Trotter responds by saying ‘It’s all in good fun, man’ (play now and play bark).
I’m keeping a close eye on everyone and removed Blitz from the situation so it wouldn’t get more tense. Usually Tora and trotter are great at working things out between them, but it’s always my responsibility to keep watch and make sure I don’t need to mediate. 5 seconds after this video ended, everyone was back to group play time (sans Blitz).

German Shepherds are VOCAL and Dramatic 🎭 ! A lot more like huskies than people realize. The amount of times I have people rudely approach me because my high drive working shepherd loves to talk smack to me is cuhhrazy. People have called the police on me before! (Thanks, Tora 😑🙄)
There are exercises you can do to assist your dog in not leaking so much drive; however, a vocal breed will be vocal at times.
The more people realize this, it may help them to find shepherds slightly less intimidating ☮️

• do not take your dog to events with fireworks that damage their ears and wonder why they’re panting excessively or trying to run away
• do not have your dog off leash at all this evening
• do what you can to keep your dog calm and secure
• You know your dog best! If you can turn their focus to play time, work on ‘place’, etc., marvelous!
If the object of desire does not outweigh your dog’s fear or fireworks, dont tackle that demon tonight.
Its okay to use Trazadome if it will help your dog be successful.
Its okay to crate your dog if their stressed out.
Its okay to take extra measures to make sure your dog is safe.
If youre leaving this evening, crate your dog! Allow them safe decompression time.
