Welcome to Belmont Acres Farm, a family-run, 5-acre farm located in Belmont, Massachusetts. We offer CSA shares & direct sales to local restaurants and markets. When the farmstand is in operation, we sell fresh-picked produce & flowers grown on-site from seed. We are not a certified organic farm, but we do utilize organic practices such as farm-generated compost, row covers, cover-cropping, and dr

Farm stand will be open on Saturday, 11/16 from 2-4. With evenings getting dark early and temperatures dropping after this weekend, it looks like this will be the last official stand day for the 2024 season. Another Tuesday farm stand is coming at you today loaded with goodies such as peppers, beets, eggplant, Ethiopian mustard kale, and some of the final days for summer loving crops like tomatoes. [Turn sound on for audio] Mike has been noting that we should share more about our close interactions and relationships with bugs and insects on the farm, so let's begin with the cricket! This time of year, as the summer dwindles down and the sun hangs lower in the sky, the farm will buzz all day long with the chirps of crickets in the fields. This is a video one of the farmers took of a cricket singing in the afternoon. You'll hear this surround-sound chorus when you visit the stand in the afternoon. Crickets are opportunistic omnivores & even though they might nibble on some crops, there is more forage out there than crickets - so this is a bug we simply enjoy more than worry about controlling. Did you know some crickets even forecast the temperature? Look up Dolbear's Law for a fun activity counting cricket chirps to get the weather report. :)

Let’s talk fennel - it’s making its way into CSA baskets this week and has been captivating the farmers in the fields.
While the vegetable variety of fennel puts energy towards growing a large edible bulbous base - this herb fennel instead puts its energy towards producing fronds and sweet seeds. Our fennel patch has been around for several seasons, beautiful and fragrant through all its phases: a feathery shrub in spring, a tower of vibrant yellow umbrellas dripping with pollinators in late spring, a forest of olive-green sweet candies in high summer, and a moody thicket of deep brown spice in early fall. September’s harvest is ideal for culinary uses. For infusions: steep into teas, or follow Mike's suggestion of soaking in vodka for a couple days for a most enchanting digestif or liqueur. For spice: hang to dry and shake into a paper bag to gather. Use a small amount to flavor stews, sauces, pickles, and/or meats. A little act of preservation now ensures a taste of summer later this winter. The farmstand will be open this Tuesday 3:30 to 5:30. Welcome to Belmont Acres Farm, a family-operated, 5-acre farm located in Belmont, Massachusetts. We offer CSA shares & direct sales to local restaurants and markets. When the farmstand is in operation, we sell fresh-picked produce & flowers grown on-site, as well as local meats and maple syrup from local farmers. We are not a certified organic farm, but consistently utilize the practices of organic farming. Farm-generated compost, cover-cropping, and drip-irrigation are a few ways we create a more sustainable agricultural model. We push ourselves to find smarter techniques that improve the land we grow on and sustain a good environment for the farmers that tend it. Concerned how your produce is grown?
