I’m Susie, and after more than 150 shelter kittens found homes this year, I’m still here, waiting.

I came to the SPCA as a tiny baby with my littermates. One by one, I watched and cheered as they grew, blossomed, and departed for their forever homes. But each time another sibling or feline friend left, I stayed behind.

I’m six months old now, with soft white fur patterned in black spots and deep green eyes that hold both sweetness and longing. I may not be the loudest kitten in the room or the one climbing up your shoulder—but I’m the gentle one, the steady one, the one who curls up beside you when you’re still and lets you know you’re not alone.

In foster care, I learned how wonderful life with people, cats, and even dogs can be. I fit in easily and love quietly.

They named me after Susie Carmichael from the Rugrats because I’m kind, thoughtful, and loyal. I hope one day soon, I’ll get the chance to live up to that name in a home of my very own.

Could you be the one to finally notice me, and give me the family I’ve been waiting for so faithfully.

I'm OJ, and I stopped expecting to be chosen a long time ago…but every day, I still wait.

I’m a 6-year-old orange and white gentleman with soft fur and my fair share of scars—the kind you earn from surviving the streets when you were never built for that kind of life.

I’ve been at the shelter for a little while now. While I’m so grateful to be safe, I desperately long for a real home. Most days, I curl up quietly in the corner of my Kitty condo and watch people come and go. They smile at the adorable, playful kittens. They laugh with the bold, outgoing cats. I understand that I may not be one to grab your attention. I just don’t know how to compete.

But that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped hoping. Every morning, I open my eyes and whisper to myself, "Maybe today. Maybe today my person will walk in. Maybe they’ll see past the glass. Maybe they’ll see me.”

Sometimes, I even press my paw to the window as people walk by. Just in case someone decides to stop. Just in case someone feels that tug in their heart and just knows that I’m the one.

I don’t want to fade into the background . I want to be seen, not for my age, my scars, or my subtle ways, but for the good boy I truly am.

Could the angel I’ve been waiting for be you?

OJ is FIV+, which simply means he needs to live indoors. He also has a sensitive stomach and does best on a consistent diet. But please don’t let that scare you. OJ is one of the sweetest, most down-to-earth cats you could ever meet. He’s a lover, not a fighter, and he can live peacefully with other cats. We’re not sure yet how he feels around dogs, but we’d be happy to dog-test him upon request.

For questions or inquiries, please feel free to call us at (585)593-2200 ext. 2. To apply to adopt OJ, visit our website at spcaallegany.org. Completed applications can be emailed to [email protected] or dropped off in person.

It most certainly is a Happy Caturday for our stray kitten Duncan as a week ago he was at death's door and was rushed to the Enchanted Mountain Urgent Pet Care. When he arrived at the urgent care he was minutes away from dying from anemia caused by a severe flea infestation. He also was suffering from a nasty upper respiratory infection. We are happy to report this little guy has rebounded amazingly after getting his blood transfusion, antibiotics, nebulized daily and receiving supportive care at the shelter. He loves to be held...his motor is always running, he is playful and he is an expert biscuit maker...he is a miracle kitten!!

Our New Shelter

Our new shelter is FINALLY done and we have moved all the animals to our new building!! We are happy to report that we have opened our doors on February 23, 2019.

The shelter building has been designed by Clark Patterson Lee from Olean using the latest shelter design techniques, including sound mitigation, energy efficiency, air exchange and sanitation. We also worked with Animal Arts in Colorado to assist in the layout and flow of the building. Kinley Corp from Allegany NY constructed our state of art facility. Improved systems will make the building more comfortable for volunteers, visitors, and our resident animals. In addition, the SPCA has incorporated "green" building strategies to minimize environmental impacts and increase efficiency, such as geo-thermal for our heating and cooling and solar arrays. We have chosen to construct the new shelter out of ICF (insulated concrete forms) - comprised of styrofoam inner and outer walls and concrete poured inside the walls which not only has a high R-value, but it also will act as a sound barrier. Our goal is to reduce the stress on the animals and to provide a healthier environment and to focus on enrichment and socialization activities for the animals in our care

This has been all made possible by our donors, bequests and several grants. The construction of our Low Income Spay/Neuter clinic was made possible by the ASPCA's NY State Animal Population Control Program grant. We received $100,000 in 2015 to start the clinic and in 2017 we have been approved for another $204,932 to complete the interior construction of the clinic along with outfitting the clinic with the surgical equipment needed. The Spay/Neuter clinic is critical in helping to control the animal population in Allegany County. We also received another grant from the Pedigree Foundation for $10,000 from their Program Development Grants for our indoor Dog Exercise Arena. These funds are being used to help to complete the indoor Dog Arena. The goal is to reduce the stress on our dogs by giving them the opportunity to have some out of the kennel time for exercise and play-time in the arena...thus helping them become more adoptable. A special THANK YOU to the ASPCA, Pedigree Foundation, Bertha Hamilton Foundation & Newman's Own....and let's not forget all of our donors who have made this vision and dream possible. Our NEW home is located at 5440 State Route 19 in Belmont, NY 14813.
