Tampa would like to wish everyone a "Happy Mew Year"! 🎉

He is crossing his paws and hoping that his New Years wish comes true and he is adopted very soon! 🐾

Tampa arrived at the shelter in May of 2023 with his siblings. All of his siblings have been adopted and Tampa is the very last of his litter. He has a personality as big as his ears! He is a very well mannered kitty, is as sweet as can be and is a very laid back fella.

We simply cannot believe Tampa hasn't been adopted yet! His adorable ears and amazing personality make him quite the catch. He would make a great addition for anyone looking for a loyal feline companion.

Tampa is 1 year & 8 months old. He very much enjoys the company of other felines and seems to adore everyone he meets. He would likely do fine with a well mannered dog but can be dog tested upon a submitted adoption application.

Adoption applications can be found here at the SPCA, on our website, or you can email us for one!

Update: Sweet Rudy is still patiently waiting to be adopted.

*See original post below for more details on this fantastic fella*

Rudy just cannot believe his luck! He has yet to receive an adoption inquiry.

Rudy arrived at the shelter over a year ago as a helpless stray kitten-and has grown into the most dapper fella! 😍

Rudy truly has it all....he is very handsome, charming, laid back and extremely friendly so it is hard to understand why this spectacular young man has not been adopted yet.

Rudy would make an excellent addition to any home looking to add a feline friend. He loves everyone he meets and likes other kitties. He would do best in a home without dogs.

If this charming young gentleman seems like the cat for you-stop by the shelter any day from 12-4pm to meet him! Adoption applications can be found here at the SPCA, on our website, or you can email us for one.

UPDATE: CURT HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!! YAY!!!!! 🥰

*UPDATE: I WAS JUST ADOPTED!!!!*

I’m Curt, and being without a home is giving me a serious case of the holiday blues.

I wasn’t always this downhearted. When I arrived at the shelter over six months ago, I was full of hope. My owner had to lovingly surrender me because their severe cat allergies made it impossible to care for me. They brought me to the SPCA, hoping I’d find a new family to give me the wonderful forever home every cat dreams of.

But as the months have passed, my hope has dimmed, and I’ve grown quieter and more withdrawn. Most days, I spend my time tucked away in my little cat cave, hiding from the world. It’s not that I don’t care — I care so deeply it aches. But every time I put myself out there and get passed by, it feels like my heart breaks a little more.

Could you be the one to bring light back into my life? With the gift of adoption, you could turn my holiday blues into the best Christmas I’ve ever had. I may be sad right now, but I know that in the right home, surrounded by love, I can be bright and happy again.

Curt is a little over 3.5 years old. He's very sweet and laid-back, gets along well with other cats, and would likely thrive living with a friendly dog (he can be dog-tested upon a submitted application to confirm).

UPDATE: CABANA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!! Yay!!!

UPDATE: CABANA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!! Yay!!!

Update: ADOPTED!!!!!!

After 18 long months at the shelter, Cabana hasn’t received a glimmer of interest. We’ve shared her story several times, hoping someone would see how special she is. But so far, she hasn’t received a single inquiry.

Before arriving at the shelter, Cabana was a stray, merely surviving outdoors. Her life was hard, but from the moment she found refuge here, she has shown us the most grateful, gentle heart. With every little nudge for pets and soft, understanding gaze she offers, she reminds us how precious she is.

It’s heartbreaking to see Cabana’s sad little face as she watches one kitty friend after another find their forever homes, while she continues to wait. She deserves the same — a wonderful family who will recognize the extraordinary soul she is.

So please, if you’ve been waiting for a sign to adopt, let this be it. This Christmas, Cabana could finally experience what it means to be loved. To apply for her, please submit an application via email or in person!

Cabana is about 4.5 years old. She loves the company of other cats and would be fine with a well mannered dog. She also loves people of any age!

We already had some kitty Christmas Eve naughtiness today....Evangeline exited our cat wing and ran out into the lobby...and after running towards our birds...she made a quick 180 and ran over to the Christmas tree....and without hesitation dove right into the presents...while evading capture she then climbed into the tree and proceeded to cause havoc. Is there still time left for her to redeem herself and gain her spot back on the "good list"?

Our New Shelter

Our new shelter is FINALLY done and we have moved all the animals to our new building!! We are happy to report that we have opened our doors on February 23, 2019.

The shelter building has been designed by Clark Patterson Lee from Olean using the latest shelter design techniques, including sound mitigation, energy efficiency, air exchange and sanitation. We also worked with Animal Arts in Colorado to assist in the layout and flow of the building. Kinley Corp from Allegany NY constructed our state of art facility. Improved systems will make the building more comfortable for volunteers, visitors, and our resident animals. In addition, the SPCA has incorporated "green" building strategies to minimize environmental impacts and increase efficiency, such as geo-thermal for our heating and cooling and solar arrays. We have chosen to construct the new shelter out of ICF (insulated concrete forms) - comprised of styrofoam inner and outer walls and concrete poured inside the walls which not only has a high R-value, but it also will act as a sound barrier. Our goal is to reduce the stress on the animals and to provide a healthier environment and to focus on enrichment and socialization activities for the animals in our care

This has been all made possible by our donors, bequests and several grants. The construction of our Low Income Spay/Neuter clinic was made possible by the ASPCA's NY State Animal Population Control Program grant. We received $100,000 in 2015 to start the clinic and in 2017 we have been approved for another $204,932 to complete the interior construction of the clinic along with outfitting the clinic with the surgical equipment needed. The Spay/Neuter clinic is critical in helping to control the animal population in Allegany County. We also received another grant from the Pedigree Foundation for $10,000 from their Program Development Grants for our indoor Dog Exercise Arena. These funds are being used to help to complete the indoor Dog Arena. The goal is to reduce the stress on our dogs by giving them the opportunity to have some out of the kennel time for exercise and play-time in the arena...thus helping them become more adoptable. A special THANK YOU to the ASPCA, Pedigree Foundation, Bertha Hamilton Foundation & Newman's Own....and let's not forget all of our donors who have made this vision and dream possible. Our NEW home is located at 5440 State Route 19 in Belmont, NY 14813.
