Creek House Homestead

Creek House Homestead Join me on my journey as I continue to learn and count each blessing around me. It started as a challenge to do a garden. That was my first year. one pregnant.

One acre homesteader with NZ Rabbits, chickens, and 3 dogs, trying to navigate life with a full time job, disabilty and a goal to still be as self sufficient as possible. Then my second year, I decided I wanted to do chickens and soak up my neighbors knowledge on how to raise them. I bought a Medium EZ coop and then Chicken math came into play so I bought another small coup that was made locally.

Sadly, it didn't live up to expectations and has become a storage area and place for the ducks and chickens to run for cover when it rains. (the ducks were not ok'd and came from my brother who thought it was fun? Funny?) So, I got myself a bright red shed with white trim and put in an automatic door for all the chickens. Sometime at the end of April I decided I wanted to do rabbits. My brother helped me get our Broken Blue Buck (Gus) and he knew someone else that gave us 2 REW does. (Lola and Loretto) I think it was a bit stressful for Lola to come to us when she was pregnant as 4 of her 6 kits died. Loretto never seemed very happy. So from Lola we ended up with REW Rip (he has a torn ear) and well, Yellowstone... :) and Chloe (REW) she is sweet when she is not pregnant but very aggressive the week before birth and apparently at least 2 weeks after and holding. She throws large litters though. and she is an excellent mama. Somewhere along the way, we got Squid an all Black. We let her and Gus mingle, and they gave us Razz a Black tort. (I'm going with Black tort even though several people said she was blue tort) I realize I have a lot to learn with colors, From Razz (black tort) and Rip (REW) we got 3 himi's and a black (4 total) I am starting to really game plan and figure out what my goals really are. I would like to always have a line of REWs and a line of different colors. I find the colors to be most interesting. Other than cats and an occasional dog, I didn't grow up with pets. As I got older the cats and dogs grew in number, and it made sense to add the chickens and rabbits. And here I am. Becoming more self-sufficient with each passing day. I will say though, I never thought I would experience so much death. Not all kits make it. and sometimes the favorite rooster dies, and the long time 18 year old cat dies within a short time span. But this is life and I am loving every minute of it. Thank you for visiting the page and learning about us and our homestead.

Heartache. Not what you expect when you go to reach for eggs. Got her in the nesting box too. I'll be doing some reinforcing and setting of traps today and repositioning of cameras. Thinking c**n. He will be a goner.

No touch ups or filters in place. I'm not even sure what color to call the 3rd one down on the left. In person it looks grayish purple and the specks look purple!

Willow had her first taste of banana today. She was OK with it, but not thrilled like some of my others.
