The Eddy Family Animals - and Friends

The photos of our pets and outdoor visitors are intended to bring a little cheerfulness and/or levity to your day. All of our pets have come from shelters.

All of our indoor furry family members are from rescue facilities. Rather than posting a bunch of pet photos on my regular page that might not appeal to everyone, I thought I would consolidate them on their own page. Some were abandoned...one (Mina) was horribly abused before being found by Animal Control. They are a wonderful example of overcoming a difficult start, and what fantastic pets come from shelters. We like to think of them as Rescue Animal Ambassadors.

Checkups today for Mercury and Helios.

Mercury is a proper 11 pounds 13 ounces. Pretty healthy except for a little itchiness in his ear, for which Dr. Betty prescribed some drops.

Helios is...well...a large fellow. 17 pounds 9 ounces. Unlike Gunther, it is not a lot of muscle. We will be working to find ways to help him with his weight issue. Otherwise he is a healthy boy. Dr. Betty removed some difficult tangles from his lower back, and he was a mostly good boy. (He did consider heading to the top of the cupboards, but his Dad held him and soothed him.)

As always, we appreciate the great care our Furry Kids receive at MRVC.

Here's some good news for a change: Pasha has a girfriend!! It's been a year and four months since he lost Renelle, but it seems he has once again found a companion.

Meet Cara. She and Pasha are working on bulking up for winter. Also they appear to have a singular baby who I have only seen once so far.

Mr. Vinnie is very frail now. He is still eating and drinking small amounts at a time and on his own. He will let us know when the time comes.

Vinnie is essentially in kitty hospice with us. We are doing all we can to keep him comfortable. He seems to enjoy the Fancy Feast fish broth, which I add water to in an effort to keep him hydrated. The broth has improved his fur.

We know he is in his final weeks with us, but he looks deceptively good today.

This little guy is around 4.5 weeks old. I'm guessing he's around 2 pounds, give or take, and he appears to be an only child. But he is fearless!! He climbed up on the bench by the feeder, and when he couldn't figure out how to climb back down, he simply hurled himself into space and landed on all fours on the deck.

He has the Bird lineage and the Pie family genes, too! He has the long back legs and big back feet (Bird family) and his mother has the silver feet, paws, and ears (Pie family.) If he inherited the silver coloring, we won't see it develop until he is an adult.

He's a curious little guy. He came right up to the window to greet me. He tried to stand on his hind legs like Mom (who I believe is Pansy,) but he's still a baby, so he tipped over.

Our beloved Little Girl is gone.

Murphy Blue was an unexpected gift: a kitten some horrible person had tossed from a car, and I was lucky enough to find her. She was only six and a half weeks old then.

She was known as Smidgen, T1, Raptor Baby. She loved playing fetch, but only with her pink mousie. She liked monitoring the printer and also watching me build fires. She would watch the Jurrasic World movies, especially the scenes which featured Blue, whose noises she could imitate. She was smart, funny, beautiful and snuggly. Everything you could ever want in a cat. She was deeply loved by us and by her siblings.

And she is gone far, far too soon.

Today we took Murphy Blue back to the vet, as she continues to have health issues. As part of her exam, Dr. Betty reran some blood work. Although as a baby she tested negative for feline leukemia, she is positive now. It sometimes doesn't show up until later.

This is devastating. Her blood work is not good, and she is down to 6 pounds.

I don't even have words for how painful this is. We will lose her far too soon. Between this and Vinnie...

We are crushed.

Helios is not a fan of chipmunks.

When you see a 'possum that has been hurt or killed, especially at this time of year, check for babies. I found this one still alive this morning. It has been placed with a licensed rehabber.

The bird flew off after a little over a half an hour of sitting in my hand. All is well.

This lovely girl has made her home on the back deck. Every evening she takes her old web down, and meticulously creates a new one. Dan said we should call her Charlotte. I replied not until she weaves "Some Pig" in her web.
