Little educational moment here reflecting on a TikTok video. 🙃
Anywho, surgery went well!! Now I’m in recovery!!
Let’s make this an educational thread!!! Comment your thoughts 💭
Easy haltering and bridling!
How many of you have a horse where it is like fighting a giraffe when it’s time to halter or bridle?
Let’s be honest… I feel like we all have had that horse in our stall. Rather it was caused by us or another person doesn’t matter. What matters is HOW WE CORRECT IT!!!!
Starting off, if your horse is shapeshifting into a giraffe when it has the halter or bridle in its sights, that tells me one (or both) of two things. Either this horse has had a super bad experience with bridling or haltering OR it has learned that it can outsmart its person and can get away with this irritating maneuver!
By being 100% in tune with your horse, and being aware of their body language, you should be able to decipher which route this behavior is coming from.
Now, down to the training!! Horses have a pressure point on the poll of their neck (directly behind the ears) when I am teaching a horse to lower their head, I will gently apply pressure to that area with two fingers. It’s normal for the horse to move their head around to look for the correct answer!! So don’t get discouraged!! Keep that pressure on until they drop their head, and then rub it away. Then almost immediately repeat the same steps.
In the video Millie is INCREDIBLY seasoned to this as she was a giraffe shapeshifter! This makes haltering and bridling so incredibly easy not only for me, but for kids who go to catch her or ride.

There is a massive difference between a horse that accepts and a horse that tolerates⭐️
When you are introducing a new object to a horse, it’s incredibly common for them to be freaked out by it. Why? Because it’s something that they have never seen before and now, WHAM here it is.
A horse that tolerates something new (let’s say a fly spray bottle) will ultimately “freeze”. When a horse freezes up, you can often find them shaking, tensing their body or their lips. They will stand there, but they have not accepted it.
A horse who has accepted something will show one or more of the 5 signs of relaxation. Licking and chewing, big sigh, blinking slowly, lowering their head and neck, and having their hind leg cocked.
Now, you may be asking… how do I help my horse accept something new? My response back to you is PATIENCE. Horses are prey animals, which means it will take them some time (shorter or longer than others) to accept something new. Be respectful to the horse. Listen to what they have to say. And take your time.
Is there anything that you think your horse tolerates, and has not fully accepted it yet?

Y’all know what today is... Election Day🇺🇸
I voted, and I want to make this crystal clear, I do not judge anyone by their choice of who they voted for. Those who are American Citizens and voted or didn’t vote, we are in this T O G E T H E R💪🏻
•
I do not judge people by their color, race, sexuality, or if you like cheese on your burger, but I do judge you by your heart, actions, and your character because that reflects who you TRULY are.
•
The sooner we stop being selfish, self centered, and rude, the sooner we come together, and stop dividing human beings the sooner we will be a stronger and healthier nation. No matter who wins the election, do not let it take away who you truly are. This is a safe space, an educational space, a fun space, but the sooner you cross me, I will see who you truly are.🇺🇸
Are we all in agreement that we are skipping thanksgiving and going straight to Christmas? Good 😌

Let’s talk about hearing!!!
•
Horses will locate and isolate auditory information with their acute ear motion!
•
Watch this video, you can see Dakoda perceiving the world around him with his ears that are very similar to satellite dishes, he is using precise movements to locate and process sounds around him.
•
A horses ears are one of their most distinct ways to communicate with herd mates, humans, friends, and foe.
•
Pay attention to your horses ears... what is he telling you?

Let’s talk about bathing your horse💦
•
Bathing your horse is something that each and every horsemen struggles with. In order to be successful while bathing your horse you need to understand how the horse thinks.
•
Horses are naturally fearful of objects that move or make noise, so bathing your horse can be a serious struggle that can result in serious injury to you and your horse if done improperly.
•
When you first introduce your horse to the hose, let him smell it and look at it with the water off until he shows a sign of relaxation. Keep in mind you need to make this a positive experience for your horse, so if you get frustrated easily or have a temper, please do not do this.
•
Once he is comfortable with the hose turn it on! Don’t bother with putting it on low pressure, because you aren’t teaching him to accept the tiny drizzle, you want him to be ok with the full pressure of the water. Let the water just hit the ground next to him, now It is very likely he will want to bolt, so let him and keep following him around with it until he relaxes and immediately release the hose and give him pets.
•
Repeat until you are able to run the water on his body. Keep in mind, start with the horses legs, and move upwards until you cover his whole body and ONLY release when he chills out.
•
Now when you are introducing the hose to your horses head, it is best to wait until the next bathing session to ensure that he is comfortable with the hose turning on and touching his body.
•
when it is time to introduce water on his head please turn the pressure down. Start by either you or someone else holding the horse, and make the hose basically “rain”, (a shower setting works best.) now what I mean by this is, how often do you see your horse sticking his nose up in the air when it’s raining? Close to never! So you are going to want to imitate rain and keep holding it until he lowers his head and stops moving and that is when you IMMEDIATELY release. Repeat
Before and after head shy video!
•
I had the pleasure of working with this sweet gelding, Chip. This guy had a severe head shy issue and would often flip over onto himself if anybody would try to touch his ears.
•
After about an hour session he now stands quietly and will allow you to touch, grab, rub, bridle, and anything else you can ever do to his ears.
Your heart is free, have the courage to follow it ♡
•
Last night was rough. I ended up having to go to the Emergency Room for my back... for those who don’t know I had a spine stimulator put in 2 months ago and I had a major problem with it afterwards... prayers needed...
