Great Pyrs & Paws Rescue is a 501c3 organization with a network of volunteers across the United States. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome unwanted, displaced, and neglected Great Pyrenees along with other Livestock Guardian dogs that are abandoned in high kill shelters throughout Texas. By placing them in caring and nurturing foster homes we are able to successfully adopt them to loving homes th

Just in time for the holidays, we have the joyful and jolly Jasper! This adorable and playful 9 month old is both crate and house trained👏. Jasper loves both dogs🐕 and cats🐈 and is excited to meet people and give love❤️ to everyone!

📣 Folks! Our friends at the society reached out for help posting one of their Pyr mixes FREYA! ❤️. Freya is in a foster home and is looking for a home of her own. Her foster says she a “sweet and silly girl” that is a perfect house guest! She loves mental stimulation, belly rubs, and long walks. She requires a secure fence, has not been tested with children and isn’t interested in playing with other dogs. 🐶 The foster is working with her leash reactivity and shyness. 📣 Folks, our friends at contacted us about a 1 yr old Pyr mix male who needs out of the shelter! ❤️. He’s been at the shelter for 3 months and needs a soft place to land. We need FOSTERS to be able to take in more dogs, can you help? Atlas will need someone with patience who will help him feel safe and work with him to build his confidence. A Throwback Thursday Pupdate of not one but TWO GPPR alumni adopted to the same family!

"I adopted Yeti (previously Sparky)when he was 3 months old and brought him home in April of 2022. Maui came home with me in February of this year.
Both boys are 2 years old (2 months apart) and are inseparable. They love barking at the neighbors dogs, laying on the couch, and playing tug of war with the rope.
My favorite things about them are how much they love each other, their very distinctly different personalities, and double pyr cuddles at bedtime!"

November is “Adopt A Senior Month” There are many ways you can support rescues, and fostering and sponsoring is among some of the most important ! 💙The Homer Senior Housing Project (HSHP) is named after Homer, a senior dog rescued from a Texas shelter in November 2020. Homer was in poor condition, emaciated, and suffering from Demodex Mange. He was nursed back to health by a dedicated foster who provided proper care, medication, and love.

To become a senior sponsor or foster for the Homer Senior Housing Project (HSHP), applicants must be dedicated, compassionate, and capable of caring for a senior, large-breed dog. Fosters should be resourceful and adaptable, able to handle challenges that may arise. HSHP dogs are placed in areas with volunteer support and access to emergency veterinary care, including Portland/Eugene, OR, Seattle/Tacoma, WA, and Austin/Houston, TX. Due to the difficulty of relocating settled senior dogs, applicants should be fully committed before applying. Not ready to adopt or foster ? We can always use Sponsors, with a monthly donation of $20/ $25 a month you can help provide prescriptions, food and supplies for these gentle giants who need support ! 💙🙏 we are so grateful to everyone for continung to help us save these dogs !

Cameron was adopted several years ago, but the family that adopted her has had a change in circumstances. So, through no fault of her own, she will be available for adoption again soon. We're in the heat of the election season, and GPPR has the cutest candidate! Bolt is a 4 year old recently brought up from Texas to find his forever home in the PNW. He would prefer to be the solo pup or with a female pup in the home🏡. He is very sweet and learning to live in a home and have consistency. He is very pro-treat and opposed to any limits on them😂.
Bolt is currently being fostered in Tacoma, Washington, and can be transported within Washington or Oregon. Other states will need to provide transportation.If you think Bolt is your ideal candidate, head to www.greatpyrsandpaws.org to fill out an application.

👻 10 month old cutie pie KARMA 👻Karma is one of the “baker’s dozen” of puppies rescued from a tough situation in Southern Oregon. This sweet but shy pup takes her time warming up to people. Once she trusts you, she’s all about love and attention! Food motivates her, and she’s quite the sneaky little thief—watch out for your towels and snacks!

Karma’s crate is her safe haven, where she sleeps soundly at night. She gets along well with her foster siblings and doesn’t even mind the resident cat. A true guardian at heart, she has a strong bark for any approaching visitors.

Karma would thrive with a calm, patient owner. In return, she’ll offer endless affection. Currently fostered in Oregon, she’s ready to find her forever home in the PNW!

An October Adoption Update: Three of our floofs found their forever homes🏠🏡🏡. Coincidentally, all three are what have been referred to as "Foster Fails." That is when the foster parent and pup decide that they are already home, and their temporary arrangement becomes permanent. We, however, don't think it's a failure for anyone and instead like to refer to them as "Foster Wins!" So here's to our three Foster Wins!👍👏🙌

An official Wednesday Welcome to Teller, who is the 14th puppy from the rescue in Southern Oregon this spring (although he came to us later). This 10 month old was held back at the shelter for medical evaluation due to a limp but turned out fine! For all he has been through for his first several months, Teller is filled with joy! He loves🥰 people and is so happy to see you. He enjoys running in the backyard with his foster siblings, but while everyone else is still playing, he comes back to the fence to see where you are and check in. He likes being brushed and is good even while cleaning his ears👏. He gets along well with the foster cat🐈 and other dogs🐕.
Teller knows “sit” and patiently (well kind of patiently) waits for his treat. He does well on a leash and enjoys his walks on the beach⛱️. He is still learning how not to pull, but he’s so eager to please. He will jump in and out of the car🚗 on his own and rides well. He will still need help with some potty training and is bound to have some other teenager behaviors when he gets older, but he will make a great addition to a family. Is that yours? 📣 PUPDATE and PSA!! 🗣️ Friends, sweet Koda from the baker’s dozen rescue in May was adopted to an amazing family in OR. Little did we know, we sent him off to his new home with a peep stuffed toy in his intestines (puppies 🙄). Lucky for all of us, the family had him on their pet insurance 🙏 It just goes to show, even under the best circumstances (he was with an incredible foster) accidents happen and it’s great to be prepared, especially with the vet costs today. 🤑 We don’t have a specific insurance we’re endorsing, so you’ll need to speak to your vet, but we can attest, it’s WORTH IT. ❤️ Friends, the effects of Covid are long lasting in the rescue world. A few of our dogs got caught in a weird matrix of no solid applications and no fosters stepping up, why I don’t even know. Meet BOLT. He’s been with our rescue for about 3 years in boarding. The boarder tooks such great care of him and it took this long to get him in a foster home. He’s doing great!! It will take a couple weeks or more for him to decompress and show his true self but he’s definitely a sweet and loving boy. And so gentle. He suffered from severe allergies and other medical conditions which required special medications, food and routine medical appointments.
