🚨ADOPTION EVENT! 🚨Hold up. Look at these faces! We just cannot. CANNOT! And honestly, we’re pretty sure you can’t either. If you’re looking for a reason to smile (and maybe fall in love), come meet these sweet pups THIS Saturday, 11-2 Dec 7 at North, 20520 Lane in Boyd Acres. Don’t say we didn’t warn you... 🐾💘

Okay, we KNOW you’ve already been hit with a million “Giving Tuesday” emails and social posts. Even your friend Bob is probably blowing up your phone with texts like, “Are you giving this Tuesday?” (Seriously, Bob? A guilt trip?)

But wait— hear us out: there are SO MANY dogs out there who need rescuing. Like, an absurd number of dogs. It’s basically a canine flash mob—and they all need a hero. 🐶 (Spoiler alert: that hero could be YOU!)
Here’s the deal: When pups come to our rescue, we get them spayed or neutered (if they’re old enough). We take this job seriously—because the last thing we want is another “puppy explosion.” And the cost? A whopping $400 to fix just one and include a chip and vaccines, too, so they are completely dialed in as they head to their new home.

So, this Giving Tuesday, here’s your chance to be a superhero—and seriously change the world, one dog at a time. Our goal today? To raise enough to fix and fine tune 10 dogs. That’s $4000. Your generosity has a tangible impact - one less litter of puppies that needs to be adopted out (or worse, abandoned).

So, what do you say? If you’re feeling it, can you show us your cape? We and these 10 pups will forever be grateful—guaranteed. 🦸‍♂️💥
Facebook is not letting me add a donate button. Not very convenient on giving Tuesday. Venmo is

PSA: Adopting a rescue dog is like winning the lottery of unconditional love, but instead of cash, you get a furry, confused, possibly slightly smelly companion. It’s incredibly rewarding but also comes with a hefty dose of “who’s in charge here?” And let’s be honest: you’ll need a bit of patience, a dash of humor, and maybe some earplugs. That’s where the 3-3-3 Rule comes in, to make the transition smoother than a pup’s belly after a good scratch.

So, why does this rule matter? Well, it’s simple: it helps you avoid overwhelming your dog with too much, too soon. It also helps you set realistic expectations—because, let’s be honest, expecting a rescue dog to be perfect on day one is like expecting your toddler to not throw a tantrum in the cereal aisle. It’s going to take some time.

What is the 3-3-3 Rule and Why is it Important?

The 3-3-3 Rule is the best thing you’ll read after your dog’s adoption papers. It’s a simple guide to settling your dog in their new home and avoiding some rookie mistakes. Here’s the breakdown:

333- The First 3 Days: Think of this as the “honeymoon phase,” but with more nervous pacing and fewer romantic walks. Your dog is just trying to figure out what on earth this place is and if it’s safe enough to take a nap. They might hide, avoid eye contact, or give you the side-eye. Don’t take it personally. You’re not that bad… probably.

333- The Next 3 Weeks: Welcome to “Dog Boot Camp.” Training time! This is when you start teaching your new friend what’s what—like "sit" and "don’t chew my favorite shoe." You’ll bond, they’ll learn your schedule, and you’ll both be pretty tired at the end of each day. (Pro tip: your dog is probably winning the race to the couch.)

333- The First 3 Months: Now your dog is starting to realize, “Hey, this is a pretty sweet gig!” Continued training and socialization are key to making sure they don’t turn into the canine version of a toddler who thinks it’s funny to knock things off the table. You’ll still have some "what just happened?" moments, but you’ll also have a dog who knows the rules (and maybe even follows them… occasionally).

Following the 3-3-3 Rule gives your new furry friend the time, space, and training they need to become the well-behaved, loving companion you know they can be. Just remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. And if you need a little help along the way, remember: there are no “bad dogs,” only confused ones—and maybe one or two with a chewing problem.

Happy adopting, folks! May your new dog bring joy, laughter, and an occasional chewed-up slipper to your home.

And P.S. - feel free to share this post since ‘tis the season for furry, four-legged gifts!

Gahhhhhhh!!! We can’t even begin this post without an exclamation because, seriously—LOOK. AT. THIS. PUP. Logan is 4 months old and is already living his best life as a full-time heartthrob. He’s outgoing, ridiculously handsome, and sweet enough to make your teeth hurt. Logan’s currently learning all the puppy things that’ll make him the bestest boy ever. And if you’re a Collie lover, you know these pups pick up training faster than you can say “sit” (mostly because they’re too smart for their own good). Bonus: Crate trained! His neuter is scheduled for next week, so he’s on the lookout for a soft landing spot—could it be your home? (Spoiler: It should be!) Adoption fee is $400. Apply at hdrescueoregon.com before someone else snatches up this heart-melting baby boy! 😍

Meet Teddy: a dog who embodies the perfect balance of energy, affection, and calm. Teddy is athletic, playful, brave, and loyal—a true friend to everyone he meets. He’s affectionate, funny, and friendly, and his house training is just the start of his impressive qualities. Whether it’s playing with children, bonding with other dogs, or even interacting with goats and ducks, Teddy’s heart is big enough to love it all.

Teddy has an undeniable passion for swimming, and he’s always ready for a splash in the water. While he’s generally good on a leash, a little guidance and direction will help him become the best walking buddy he can be.

At a recent adoption event, Teddy amazed everyone with his calm, composed nature. Surrounded by barking, jumping dogs, he remained cool, watching the action and patiently waiting for his forever family. His sweet eyes speak volumes about the love and loyalty he has to offer.

Teddy is young, spry, and more than ready to begin the next chapter of his life, a chapter where he gets all the love he truly deserves. If his gentle spirit and charming personality have captured your heart, we’d love to set up an introduction. Teddy is neutered, chipped, up to date on shots, and ready to roll into his next adventure with you.

To bring Teddy home or schedule a meet and greet, please submit an application at http://hdrescueoregon.com

Many hearts are shattered today, including mine, but I find comfort in knowing that an angel has earned her wings. There’s one hell of a celebration happening in the heavens right now as we all know Tammy certainly went the Rainbow Bridge route and had an enormous pack there to greet her with plenty of herders flying into her arms.

Our beloved Tammy Leicht, co-founder of HDR and one of my cherished friends, has passed. She leaves behind a legacy of love, determination, and a profound impact on the lives of countless dogs and families.

Tammy and I shared a dream, a promise: to save as many dogs, especially herding dogs, as we could. We started HDR with this shared vision, believing we could make a real difference in the lives of these animals and the families who would give them a home.

Our journey together began long before HDR—back in 2016. She and I worked side by side, with her handling applications and finding the *perfect* homes, and me fostering for HUNAH. We didn’t just want to find any home; we wanted the right home. Tammy had an extraordinary gift for matching dogs with the people who needed them most. She wasn’t just good at this—she was brilliant. She understood both the dogs and the people, and she knew exactly how to bring them together in a way that changed lives.

Tammy’s heart was as big as her impact. She didn’t just connect with the dogs; she connected with a community of people who believed in the same mission. And through all her tireless work, she helped to build something that will continue long after she is gone.

While our hearts break for her loss, we will carry on her work, honoring the incredible spirit of Tammy in everything we do. Her legacy will never fade.

Greg Guise and family, I am holding you in my heart today and sending you all my love. May Tammy rest in peace, and may her memory live on forever in the work we continue to do.

11/16/2024

Tiny but mighty Max made his grand entrance late last night via the transport chain, and from the moment he walked in, it was clear he’s like the canine version of Homecoming King: handsome, athletic, charming, and the life of the party. Everyone loves him. If there was a “Best Smile” award at the doggy prom, Max would take it home in a landslide.

Max spent the night in his crate, co-hosted by three dogs, and he was the epitome of a gentleman. He waited for his breakfast (with a little sit and a respectful stare), and once the meal was over, he brought a ball to his host’s feet, just *casually* suggesting it might be playtime. When told to wait a little longer, he graciously returned to his crate like a pro. Max is a natural at the art of “please, may I?” and is already mastering the fine art of patience.

He’s got that classic heeler drive—constantly by your side, giving you the most intense eye contact (he’s just *that* interested in you). He’s also got the heeler twirlies—basically, his version of a victory dance—and since he’s so happy all the time, expect a lot of twirling and zoomies.

This little dynamo is basically a furry Einstein with a boundless energy supply. If you’re looking for a future agility or flyball champion who can jump over obstacles... or directly into your arms, Max is your guy. We can already see him acing the competition and then leaping into your arms with a wagging tail as you give him a congratulatory belly rub.

Max deserves a home that matches his enthusiasm—whether it’s a bustling family or a ranch full of room to run and play. Could that home be yours? If so, give a holler! HDRescueOregon.com $400 adoption fee
