Caring for your pets is our top priority, and we remain committed to providing the highest level of veterinary care. As costs continue to rise across the board, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to adjust our exam fee from $50 to $55.

This small change helps us continue to offer the attentive, high-quality care your pets deserve by directly supporting our dedicated team.

We appreciate your understanding and continued trust in us.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for being part of our veterinary family!

Oregon Department of Agriculture has reported that two cats from different households in Multnomah County became ill with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI H5N1) after eating the same raw food: Wild Coast LLC – Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula, Lots #22660 and #22664 – Best By Date 12/2025. Both cats were euthanized due to their illnesses. If you have either of these food lots, stop feeding it immediately.

Update: Wild Coast has expanded the recall of its 16 oz and 24 oz frozen Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula raw pet food for cats, which was distributed to pet food retailers in WA & OR due to H5N1. The affected lots are identified by a sticker on the lid with a number of #22660, #22653, #22641, #22639, #22672 and #22664 with a Best Buy date of 12/25. The recall is widened to include any raw material sharing similar production dates and lot codes as the previously noted #22660 and #22664.

Tips to help protect your pet from HPAI:
* Do not feed your pet undercooked or raw meat, including uncooked or freeze-dried meat-based diets, treats, or animal products.
* Do not feed your pet raw (unpasteurized) milk or colostrum.
* Prevent pets from eating birds or other wild animals.
* Wash your hands after touching raw meat and after interacting with poultry, livestock or animals outside your household.
* Consider changing clothing and shoes after interacting with animals or birds with unknown health status and before interacting with your own pets.
* Contact your veterinarian if your pet appears sick. Tell your veterinarian if your pet has been exposed to raw meat, raw milk, or wild waterfowl.

Happy New Year’s Eve from Plateau Veterinary Hospital!

As we celebrate the start of a new year, it’s important to help our pets stay calm and comfortable during the festivities. Fireworks can be stressful for animals, so here are three tips to help keep your pet relaxed tonight:

Take your pet out early: An early evening walk can help burn off some energy, making your pet feel more relaxed when you get home.

Stay indoors and keep away from windows: After your walk, try to stay indoors for the rest of the evening. Keep your pet in a quiet space away from windows and loud noises, stepping outside only for quick bathroom breaks.

Snuggle with your pet: Show your furry friend some extra affection. Snuggles and reassurance can help them feel safe and secure.

Calming medication: Be sure to talk with your veterinarian if your pet needs extra help during these stressful times.

Wishing you and your pets a safe and calm start to the new year.

Important Update for Pet Owners:

Starting January 1, 2025, prescriptions for controlled substances and gabapentin filled at retail or mail-order pharmacies for pets will now be reported to the Oregon Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). This means these prescriptions will appear in the prescription history of the person listed on the pet’s prescription, clearly marked as "veterinary prescriptions."

Our in-house dispensing will NOT be impacted—veterinary hospitals are not required to report these prescriptions to the PDMP.

This change is part of a statewide effort to improve transparency and safety in managing prescription medications. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to ask us during your next visit or reach out to our team.

We’d also like to inform you that, due to rising costs from labs and suppliers, there will be slight price increases on some services and products in the new year. We remain committed to providing exceptional care at fair prices.

Thank you for trusting us with your pet’s health!

The Oregon Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) is a tool to help healthcare providers and pharmacists provide patients better care in managing their prescriptions.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and while we're all ready to feast, let's make sure our pets stay safe and healthy! Remember, many classic holiday foods—like turkey skin, onions, and chocolate desserts—can be harmful to pets. Keep the goodies out of reach and let them celebrate with pet-friendly treats instead.
