Love my new saddle shaped chair! Much more comfortable against my thighs and it's going to be healthier long term for my posture in addition to helping me keep my back/core strength while I'm sidelined from riding. This was only $57 from Home Depot - delivered!

Some good firsts today! I scooped some p**p (did not try to move a wheelbarrow!), led Alamo to pasture (second time on that), put on paddock boots by myself, bumped up to 40 min sitting on the saddle stand alternating 5 min active sitting with 5 min posting or 2 point. Just need a safe horse to mount!

Ok, this is a little bit horses and a lot about healing and how the Kloud is playing a role. I was flung from my horse about a mile from the finish of a 25 mile ride (he ended up with a root tangling in his hind legs for several steps). I landed on my right shoulder and broke 5 ribs in 2 places each and had compression or minor breaks on 3 lumbar vertebrae. But as I was going down, my left leg was still over the saddle (not hung up, just that instantaneous of an event) putting me into a side split that I didn't do well when I was a gymnastics kid! So broken hip.
I now have 2 titanium rods in my hip and going through PT to strengthen and regain flexibility. It's slowed a bit by the ribs and vertebrae, but I have felt very little pain through the entire ordeal. I very much credit that to the Kloud which is helping my soft tissues heal fast and support the fractures. Ditching the walker and cane soon!
My husband brought my Mini to the hospital room where I could fold and position it under the shoulder/ribs or on top of the stabilized hip.
Once home, the best place for me has been a recliner. We set that up with the Maxi so I can run it first thing in the morning, during the day when I rest, and in the evening/before bed. My sleep numbers aren't quite as good as before the injury (which was also a credit to PEMA) but a very good normal. Makes sense, I don't like sleeping on my back!
I've had great support for PEMF/PEMA from professionals in the hospital and post release, so really glad word is getting out there. I truly would not want to be healing from these injuries without my Kloud

I think I'm learning more about my injuries from every professional! Best overall view came from the wonderful Siiri Berg during our first PT session today since she's looking at me overall, not just focused on the hip break. I knew there was some rib involvement as well as vertebrae. I thought 2 ribs but it's actually 5 ribs with 2 breaks each. And L1-L4 each were impacted.
Really astonishing that I feel very little of this! I guess my body was in good shape and everything else is doing its best to support the fractures. I even got 76 sleep score last night. I'm off prescription pain killers, just 2 aspirin a day. I think the Kloud PEMF/PEMA gets a lot of credit for supporting all the surrounding tissue too.
I'll stick with the walker a while longer so I font stress ribs and vertebrae in any asymmetrical way. But I do have a saddle stand sitting in the living room so I can start working on my riding position.
Pic of my new hardware!

Bandit springs was fabulous! Seriously going to miss Jannelle and family managing this ride! They've done an amazing job for Mustangs to the Rescue and the endurance community 18 years I think.
I'm looking forward to riding with Jannelle Wilde next year!
We took Hank and Csavannah for the night ride on Friday. This was Csavannah's first ride of the season after a suspensory injury Jan 1. Lots of time off then slow rehab working through her crankiness as well. Bandit is not the easiest first ride back but this time I made sure she had pour-in pads on all 4 cuz she hates the rocks. Wow, she had a great time.
Our group of 4 (Stace, Tara Quinn , Siiri Berg ) let us lead often to make sure the horses in better shape (2 100 milers!) didn't pull her too fast.
Sadly Tara's horse stumbled and dinged a heel bulb enough to pull. We got to see one of the mustang bands and this was Csavannah's first night ride. She did awesome!
Saturday Stace decided to run 10 miles with Siiri, who is training for a 100k run. On foot!! Then we took Csavannah home and brought Merlin.
Stace was a bit sore from running and Lynn Atcheson had decided to give Texas a break so she rode Hank with me and Merlin. Hank was on his best behavior and Lynn clicked well with him. I got her dumped by ramming my helmet into a low dead branch which scared Hank. Good thing she's a great athlete and bounced back into the saddle for the rest of the ride.
We had another close encounter with a couple bachelor stallions. One really nice one that I'd adopt if I ever saw him available!
Both rides we had to push to keep moving and avoid an OT pull, but we made it! Csavannah continues to surprise me how much she enjoys endurance so hopefully on to her next 50 for year 9 towards a decade award.
Merlin is also prepping for his first 50 at Midnight Rider. Bandit will be excellent help and he's getting better and better dealing with other horses around him.
Thank you to Stace, Tara, Siiri, and Lynn for riding with me and helping me take care of my ponies. And huge thanks to Jannelle and all of ride management, vets, volunteers, and all our great friends at the ride!

Beautiful photos from Monika Paterson Photography at the Cariboo Gold Rush Express ride in BC. Stace is riding Katrin Levermann's horse Rudy (Double Bey Latte) and I'm riding Buddy (Double Exposure PW). I'm riding in a special Ghost Torino which was my inspiration for the saddle I'm donating to the 2024 AERC National Championships at the Outback Station.

The buckwheat is blooming all over the badlands! Flowers everywhere now. Sand Lilies are about gone but lots of purples and yellows out there! And a note for those who don't know, the Chitwood Trailhead parking area, big enough for a few horse trailers, is done! Now if only the BLM would put out a sign big enough for people to see!

One horse is better than the other for pulling ribbons! But it was Merlin's first time and it was windy and he just likes reacting to Every. Single. Thing! 18 miles repeating "bosu ball, reiner position, chin up" got me through without too many shenanigans and no unplanned dismounts. Stevie Delahunt

Grizzly Mountain Ride was a blast. We only had 2 horses ready (haha, barely) so rode Friday on Hank and Alamo for the 50. Alamo was being experimented on as usual - I took Octos that had been glued on 2-3 times last summer, ground off the finger tabs and heat welded new finger tabs, 3 on each side. It was my first time heat welding and I learned even before the ride that it was a learning process just like the whole glue on thing. So I carried some Renegades just in case!
I was down to 3 total tabs on one front and 4 on the other and did lose one shoe on the last loop. I still had to let Julie Serres disappear on the last couple miles because Alamo was ready to be done so could barely hold him back.
We, along with Tara Quinn, finish 7th, 8th, 9th. Tom Cohen and new friend (who will hopefully be starting his endurance career soon) Thomas Graup got some pics of us in our mini-team T-shirts "50 Shade of the Gray Parade"! Thank you Tara! (and hint for anyone who wants custom T shirts)
Weather was great, just a few sprinkles here and there, perfect for our still furry beasts. Trails were marked perfectly. We love having Mrs Smallz food truck in camp. Ride management had everything flowing smoothly and amazing volunteers exactly where needed (especially at gates!)
Can't ask for a better start to the season for us! Oh, and I think there should always be baby goats at awards! Looking forward to the awesome top 10 award of one of Jayla's ride pics sponsored by Black Diamond Veterinary.
Thanks ride management, vets, volunteers and great seeing everyone! Our ponies are resting while we work on ranch projects for the rest of the weekend.

And for those looking for information on all of Ghost's new Iberian Saddles, visit my Ghost Treeless Saddles - USA FB page - they are stunning! I'll have more details and ordering options up on my Badlands Equine site throughout this week.
Also, check out the updated clinic schedule at our barn under the 2024 Clinic and Event Schedule. My theoretical endurance ride schedule is also posted for those who want me to bring them saddles, or accessories, or even BEMER and Kloud.

A great package if you don't need the bells and whistles but everything you need for day to day use and improving your overall health at a very attractive price. Octos turned sextos with new fingertabs heat welded on! I also tried using electrical tape on the hinds since they were a little big and that was a fail since apparently the electrical tape was (brand new) from another century. Oh well, they're on pretty good I think. Enough time to find our before Grizzly and either use or replace!

How many of you have horses that react to vaccinations? I've got two (they are related) that react very strongly - walk very slowly and uncomfortably, can't get their noses to the ground. And it usually lasts for 4-5 days. Bute can help a little but just for a few hours. One other horse seem stiff if ridden within 3-4 days but doesn't react quite as strongly.
Anyway, this year I have a new weapon in my arsenal - the Kloud! Bemer might have worked as well, but I have a Kloud neck blanket so it was the easiest to use.
I didn't think of using it on my mare, she was vaccinated first. She was only mildly affected the day after vaccination, but the following day she was a mess. The day after that I did a Kloud session on her for 15 minutes and when I checked her 6 hours later, she was completely normal - at least a couple days before she would have normally recovered.
We did the rest of the horses the same day I used the Kloud on her and when her nephew reacted very strongly a few hours later, I use the Kloud immediately. By dinner time he could eat off the ground. I also used it on one other horse that can be stiff and never saw an issue.
This will now be my regular routine after vaccinations. Just one or two sessions made such a dramatic difference!
