Congrats to Zach and Boujee on showing up and putting on a show last night! Winning money is good on a young horse, but winning open 2D money on a horse that’s been run less than 10 times his whole life is really good!

What a difference 6 weeks makes! He’s still what I’d call “green” but he’s trotting and loping and happy to be doing it.

With spring fast approaching, here’s a few tips for sending your c**ts off to trainers, whether it’s me or someone else. Maybe you can even use this as a check list.

1) Make sure your hose is healthy!
There’s nothing I hate worse than a skinny horse coming in and I’m expected to make him magnificent in 60 days, when I gotta spend the first 30 days getting him de-wormed, hooves trimmed, teeth floated, and fat enough to fill out a saddle!
2) Make sure your horse will stand tied and is handle-able.
I get that’s what you’re paying the trainer for, right?! Wrong! But if you send off a wild bronc, it’s gonna take a hell of a lot longer to turn said bronc into a safe, respectable member of society and don’t you dare complain about the price……it’s not the trainer’s fault that YOU didn’t set your c**t up for success from the beginning.
3) Do research on the trainers before you send your c**ts to them!
Let’s be honest, it isn’t cheap! You can check off the first 2, but make sure you and the trainer are both on the same page about your expectations. There’s good and bad c**t starters/trainers out there! But sometimes, it might just be the wrong fit. You might have a big, strong c**t and want him to be a champion dressage horse, while my first thought is gonna be “head horse” 😂
4) Check in on your horse while it’s in training!
I am admittedly the worst at communication. You’re paying me to train/ride your horse, not turn it into a photo-shoot model. However if I’m doing something cool with it, I try to get a video for you. That being said; go over occasionally (not every day, and please give notice) and sit in on a training session.
5) Pay attention!
There’s quite a few “trainers” that will maybe ride your horse 10 times, and feed it poorly so it looks like they’ve been riding it hard. Then, you get it back and it’s in worse shape than when you sent it off. When a horse is in full-time training, it is going to lose some baby-weight aka fat. However it should look shiny and muscled - up.

What a year it’s been! Here’s a short version of our 2024. Thank you all who have sent horses to us to train and bought horses (and puppies) from us; we couldn’t do what we do without you! Happy ending to 2024, and wish you all the best in the coming year!

Two runs, two checks. Congrats to Zach and Jackpot Boujee on your first successful futurity weekend! In case y’all didn’t know, he trains dang barrel horses! Give him a shout if you need one trained or tuned up!

So proud of these two! Put him on the clock for the first time, and he didn’t disappoint! Boujee is 3 years old and is keeping up with 5 and 6 year old horses! He’s gonna be great and Zach is doing such a good job with him!
