Have you ever thought about this?

When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then?

This is a really good post that can't be shared often enough:

1. Take a 2 minute break and read this: Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.

2. You are really tired and frustrated. All of a sudden your chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.

3. Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it...

4. Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.

5. How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.

6. But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.

7. Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs 🫁 and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment.

8. Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.☝🏻

9. FOR WOMEN 👭: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue.

Burn ban has been lifted!

Cedar County received rain last night but not enough to take away the fire danger. As of 10/25/24, the burn ban is still in place.

Happy Fire Prevention Week!!! Smoke alarms make them work and remember to change your batteries and replace your alarms every 10 years or if they don’t work. We stopped at Bennett Community School-Iowa and gave Preschool-1st grade ride on fire truck and stopped and saw some kids in town! We love getting the younger generation involved!

At 10:00 tomorrow morning 10/7/24 Cedar County will be under a burn ban. Muscatine and Scott county are not yet.

We would like to send out a huge THANK YOU to everyone that showed up yesterday to support our 60th Annual Ham Dinner!!! The lines were so long that we had to get a second meat slicer going to just keep up!!!! Mark it on your calendar now for the 61st Ham Dinner 9/28/2025!!!!
We also would like to say thanks to the Bennett School for allowing us to use the space. Thanks to the staff at the school for helping and our significant others and kids. Thanks to Inland 4H for making sure the guest stayed well hydrated while eating. We also had a lot of generous donations that helped out with raffle prizes which we will be drawing tomorrow night 10/1/24. We are looking for businesses that would allow us to showcase one of these displays for Fire Prevention Week October 6-12th or even for the whole month of October! We would have a stand with more of our coupon cards where the current one is taped in the bottom left hand corner. If you would be willing please message us to arrange! The display is approximately 20"x14" We also have a simple paper flyer that could be displayed instead. Thank you!!

***UPDATE*** You can also get tickets from the fire station starting at 5:30pm every night this week!

Less than 2 weeks away! Advance ride tickets are now available from Martha’s Beauty Shop, Price Oil & LP, and Price Heating/AC & Plumbing! This year will be a little different. Each $25 voucher is worth a session (Friday 5-10pm, Saturday 12pm-4pm, or Saturday 5pm-9pm). A Saturday ALL DAY PASS (11am-10pm) costs $40 and gets you both Saturday sessions plus 2 bonus hours! To get unlimited for both days, you will need 1 $25 voucher and 1 $40 voucher. Any questions, please message this page. Advance vouchers are the only way the fire department can recoup some of the cost of the carnival. We do not know the exact rides coming but it is the same group as last year so we expect similar rides, which we had very positive reactions last year.
