Benelli Update: Benelli and her handler came to Justus K9 for basic obedience with the plans of continuing on to be a Therapy Dog used in a school setting. Benelli and her handler were excellent candidates and thrived with basic obedience that turned out to be the foundation for her therapy dog certification. We are so proud of our clients and their accomplishments.

We had the pleasure of spending time with Boston this weekend and were impressed by his sharp obedience skills. It's always gratifying to see clients invest time and effort in maintaining their dogs' training and ensuring they remain well-behaved.

Unfortunately not all dogs start off in a loving home. Lulu was blessed to have a new start. Her owner is dedicated to giving her stability, safety and purpose that all dogs deserve. Lulu overcame a lot of fears in a short time. We are looking forward to watching her continue to grow.

Justus K9 did some consulting and training with Calla and Trinity. We focused on obedience as well as Calla’s indication (barking) during a seizure. We reviewed some training concepts, fundamentals and prepared a training plan to continue the progress at home. The relentless ex*****on of the basics is a must when it comes to perishable skills. A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. A Police Service Dog’s career begins with selection testing. Selection testing is often misunderstood and underestimated. Specific drives and traits must be present to make the cut. I traveled to Hill Country Dog Center in Texas with Logan County Sheriff’s K-9 unit to assist and consult on selection of a police service dog candidate. We selected a Belgian Malinois from the Czech Republic. There was a great selection of dogs for testing and a knowledgeable and professional staff. Justus K9 will continue to consult and work with the Logan County K9 Unit throughout its future training. Arturo Terrazas

Malinois Monday

Cheddar completed his on leash basic obedience program Sunday. His family implemented his training plan at home. He looks great! Keep up the good work. Thanks for the update.

Dolly’s back and looking good! Dolly has completed our basic on leash obedience program, e-collar training as well as regular scheduled refresher training. Dolly’s owner is committed to her reaching her full potential. Firm, Fair and Consistent!

Off leash / no e-collar

Results happen over time, not overnight. Very exciting to see these results.

Initially Maize would go into avoidance at the thought of being on leash in close proximity. She made a very nice transformation while in the basic obedience program. This video is the end result. Day one heeling attempt video is attached in the comments.

Video taken on Wednesday of week 2. Remi had a lot of interesting drives and traits. A little drama queen but fortunately a lot of trainability.

Benelli was a “chow hound” but still remained obedient.

I really enjoyed working with Benelli the past two weeks.

Easy dogs do not make better handlers, difficult dogs do! Shadow completed our obedience program today. His owners wanted to be able to enjoy walking with him on leash without being pulled and dragged around. He now can heel, sit and down. We discussed a plan for them to maintain his newly learned skills at home.

Bruno completed our obedience program back in May. He is back for boarding this week. We took a walk tonight and was able to dive into some off line heeling. Bruno’s owners are clearly doing a great job of maintaining his obedience!
