Calling all 3-legged cat lovers! Josh is a 5-month old stray kitten that was found alone outside, dragging one of his hind legs. We amputated his leg, nursed him back to health, and now he is ready for his forever home! He gets along great with other cats and also likes dogs! He is also neutered and up-to-date on all of his vaccines, testing, etc.
Please call/text/email us if you think you can give Josh a loving home from here on out!

Vera is 11 years old and has been at the shelter for almost 9 months 🥺 Please ask around! We will send her with 12 months of free Simparica Trio 🐾!

Dear Kind Human,

I see you looking at me through the cold, metal bars of my kennel. Actually, I have seen several of you multiple times. I know you see a scary dog but you don’t see my wagging tail and a hopeful face and you don't see the ache in my heart. I've been here for so long now, watching other dogs get picked, one by one, leaving me behind in this lonely cage. I know I have the staff members that love me very much. I have chosen two of them as my favorites even though I like them all. What’s not to like? They all show me love, kindness and spoil me rotten.

I remember the warmth of a home, the soft rug beneath my paws, the sound of laughter as I chased after a ball. I remember the gentle hand on my head, the love in someone's eyes when they looked at me. But now, all I have are the cold concrete floor, the echoing barks of other lost souls, and the constant longing for a family to call my own.

Every day, I wait by the door, hoping to see you come in, to hear my name called, to feel the comfort of a familiar embrace. But the days just blend together, each one a little bit emptier than the last.
I know there are so many other dogs here, but I'm just one little pup, hoping for a second chance. I can be your loyal companion, your furry shadow, your best friend. I promise to love you unconditionally, to greet you with a happy dance every time you come home, to be there for you through thick and thin.

Please, don't just walk by. Stop and look into my eyes. Can't you see the love and devotion waiting to be shared?

With a heavy heart,
Vera, A lonely dog at the shelter.

Vera has been in the Jeanette Hunt- Blair Animal Shelter since March 14, 2024. She is an 11 year old spayed female. She is good with cats and older children. She came to us at no fault of hers. Her owners were going through a very tough time and could not give her the life she deserved. Vera takes a bit to warm up to people (to be expected from her history) but once she does, she is amazing! PLEASE give Vera a chance. This girl deserves a chance, and we will fight for her till the end!

For more information, give the shelter a call or visit our website, www.blairanimalshelter.org

🦟 Beware cat owners! Even though cats are atypical hosts for heartworms, they can still cause major health issues.

Within 75 to 90 days after a cat is bitten by an infected mosquito, heartworm larvae can reach the pulmonary arteries, resulting in heartworm-associated respiratory disease (HARD). Signs of HARD include coughing, increased respiratory effort, and vomiting that resemble feline asthma. In some cases, heartworms can mature to adulthood, which can be fatal for cats with smaller hearts.

Providing year-round heartworm prevention is an important part of your pet’s health care plan. If you would like to discuss the various preventives, contact our team at Bennington Animal Hospital by calling 402-452-3585, so we can determine what protocol would best fit you and your pet’s lifestyle.

🐾🦷🧻 Did you know there's a way to clean your dog's teeth without using a toothbrush? Enter: dog dental wipes! Here's why you should consider them:

👉 Dental wipes are a convenient alternative to toothbrushes and toothpaste, especially if your furry friend doesn't tolerate brushing well.

👉 They are designed to help remove plaque from your dog's teeth by being rubbed against their teeth and gums.

👉 Dental wipes are especially great for dogs with smaller mouths or those who won't sit still for a traditional brushing session.

👉 While they can't clean as deeply as a toothbrush, they are still an effective way to promote your pet's dental health and prevent dental disease.

Have you tried dental wipes for your furry friend? Let us know in the comments below! 🐾🦷

🐾🦷 Did you know that you can brush your pet's teeth every day?

It's an easy way to maintain their oral health and prevent future dental problems. Look for special pet toothpaste that's flavored like beef, chicken, fish, or peanut butter.

And don't forget about dental diet food to prevent plaque and tartar buildup.

Have you ever seen your cat chattering their teeth while staring intently at a bird or squirrel outside? This behavior might be more instinctual than we realize. Feline behavior specialists have noted the similarity between the teeth chattering noise and the neck bite that wild cats use to quickly kill their prey.

Kittens and cubs in the wild have the opportunity to practice this special bite, but house cats may show their excitement or frustration at seeing potential prey they can't get to. If you notice your cat's tail getting puffy or twitching in a particular way while they make these chattering noises, it's a sign they're getting excited.
