Pollen season is in full swing. If you or your pet have pollen allergies you have likely noticed an increase in symptoms. Tree pollens started in March and have been at extremely high levels. Tree pollens that are currently predominant include juniper/cedar, maple/box elder, oak, poplar, cottonwood, and hickory. Grass pollens have started and are currently at high levels.

We, of course, provide environmental skin allergy testing so that your pet can start allergy vaccine therapy not only for pollen allergies but also dust mite, storage mite, and mold allergies.

Wondering why your veterinarian has been so busy this year? Pets may not need to mask up, but COVID-19 and its effects on human society has caused an unprecedented increase in activity at many veterinary practices.

Although we have relatively low client traffic compared with larger veterinary facilities, we are taking precautions due to COVID-19. Please call us when you arrive. We will collect your pet’s history over the phone while you are in your car. Then we will take your pet for examination and diagnostics and return your pet to you afterward. We will wipe your pet’s collar and leash before taking him/her back to you. Dr. Byrne will then discuss his findings and recommendations with you over the phone.

Staff who develop a fever or have signs of COVID-19 or who have been in contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 will stay at home.

Likewise, we ask our clients to reschedule their pet’s appointment if the same applies to them or have someone else bring their pet.
Please call us to schedule when you would like to pick up medications. If you are picking up prescriptions, you will find the door locked when you arrive; please be patient.

We hope these measures provide some comfort to our terrific clients and their beautiful pets.

Use of 100% Tea Tree Oil (100% TTO) is not recommended in dogs and cats, a new study* published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association shows. A review of records of the Animal Poison Control Center over a 10-year period revealed that use of 100% TTO can result in tremors, weakness, coma, and possibly death. Fortunately the concentration of TTO in most skin products is low, 0.1% to 1%.
