🌟Long-timer Spotlight!🌟
"Hi, I'm Stella and I'm a 5 year old female Pitbull mix. I'm energetic, playful and friendly, and love being around our volunteers and the shelter staff because they provide me pets and love. Sometimes when I'm really excited, I zoom through the shelter play yards and LOVE rolling around in the grass! My former owner loved me very much however he was assigned for extended active duty serving our country and sadly had no one to care for me, so now I'm waiting for a new family to give me a second chance at a loving forever home. I would do best in a home with no other pets but am open to meeting older kids. I can't wait to meet you!!"🐶
Stella has been in the care of Women's Animal Center patiently waiting for her forever home since February 2022, that's over 900 days! Two+ years of waiting can become hard for any shelter pet. But Stella is hopeful that the right family is out there for her. And we hope that is very soon.❤
Stella’s adoption fee is generously sponsored by Bill Sarr with Weichert Realtors, and a kind adopter of two pups from Women’s Animal Center. Help us find sweet Stella the forever home she deserves!🫶

Today, March 8th, is International Women’s Day!👭
We proudly pay tribute to our founder, Caroline Earle White, who took action, leading thirty of her women colleagues in the founding of America’s First Animal Shelter 155 years ago! The power of their work continues to resonate in the lifesaving efforts of more than 3,500 animal shelters in operation across the country. The millions of animal lives that have been saved near and far since the formation of Women’s Animal Center are reason enough to celebrate all of the strong, dedicated, caring and compassionate women of years past and the amazing women who are invested in our mission today!🐾
Women’s Animal Center, formerly known as the Women’s Humane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, is so very proud to be first among them, and forever privileged to follow in the footsteps of the extraordinary and trailblazing women who started it all.

Kennel Enrichment is so Important!🐾 Did you know 15 minutes of mental stimulation is equivalent to 30 minutes of physical exercise for Dogs?
Our Canine Education Coordinator, Victoria, recently created “Peanut Butter Frisbees” for our shelter, which provides excellent mental and food enrichment as the dogs work to figure out how to lick all of the delicious peanut butter off of their frisbees. Mental enrichment in the shelter kennels is extremely important for our shelter dogs because it helps:
1️⃣Build Confidence
2️⃣Reduce and avoid stress
3️⃣Create a safe & positive space in their kennels
4️⃣Provide an opportunity for problem solving
5️⃣Improve their overall health and welfare
Check out our adoptable shelter pets enjoying their enrichment treat!

We are ending 'Adopt a Senior Pet Month' with the BEST adoption!🤩
On day 950, our longest shelter resident finally found his forever home, and we are over the moon! Benjamin was ADOPTED!🐶
This sweet energetic senior with the playful personality, and a favorite of our volunteers and staff, came into our shelter in April of 2021, and after spending nearly 2 ½ years in our care, grabbed his favorite ball and happily headed home with his new and excited family.🏡❤️
It takes a village to care for a shelter pet, and there are so many heroes in this wonderful story:
🐾Our dedicated veterinary and shelter animal care team who provided daily and compassionate care for Benjamin
🐾Our incredible volunteer animal handlers who provided enrichment, socialization, play and constant love
🐾All of you who followed Benjamin's journey and kindly spread the word to raise awareness
🐾Those of you who kindly donated treats, enrichment toys and funds to help us provide for Benjamin’s long term care
🐾Doll 10 Beauty for generously sponsoring this handsome boy’s adoption fee and – finally -
🐾Benjamin’s new family for providing this beautiful boy a loving forever home
We never give up on these precious lives and it's thanks to the incredible support of kind adopters and a generous community of donors and friends like you who help to make it possible for Women's Animal Center to provide safe shelter, nutritious meals, enrichment and medical care for the shelter pets waiting for their forever homes. We look forward to sharing photos in the future of Benjamin’s ‘happy ending’ adventures in his new home. A truly happy day for another beautiful shelter pet!😊
