🐾❄️ **Cold Weather Safety for Your Dog** ❄️🐾

As the temperatures drop, it’s time to ensure your furry friend stays safe and cozy outdoors. Gradual exposure to colder weather helps your dog build tolerance while avoiding risks like hypothermia and frostbite. How long is too long for them to be outside? It depends!

Make sure to follow weather safety guidelines that are just right for your furry friend's breed, size, age, coat type, and health, since all of these factors really influence how well your pup can handle the cold!

🐾Limit outdoor time and monitor for signs of distress.

🐾Adjust exercise routines to prevent overexertion and cold stress.

🐾Protect sensitive areas like paws, ears, and tails from the cold.

Bailey joined through our Top Paw Program to learn some manners on the leash. Bailey was a puller and made it very difficult for his family to walk him.

At Lead the Way, we taught Bailey how to walk with manners and confidence. His wonderful paw-rents continued his training at home. Now, his mom can walk Bailey with ease!

Oscar is a 7-month-old Border Collie/Poodle mix. He's super smart and full of energy.

His family has big and little hoomans, and he's their first dog.
🐶
He came to stay with the team for and to start learning manners. We coordinated his board and train with another young pup who also loves to play with a lot of intensity, Remi.

Playing together helps Oscar and Remi both learn some critical skills like bite inhibition and working with beings of different sizes.

In today's video, you'll also see what Oscar's return home looked like. Amy works with the entire family to give them the tools to continue their training and socialization at home and out in the world.

If one of your versions of with your dog is being able to peacefully enjoy a meal or walk out of the kitchen while you are making a meal and have things be right where you left them when you return, then impulse control is one of your training goals!

Some breeds struggle a lot more with resisting temptation than others but with the right plan and practice, we've found that all dogs can learn great manners while you're at the table.

Benji’s journey from fear to friendship 🐾

It's time for the latest #SuccessSaturday spotlight - check out Benji! 💕🐾 Once fearful of nearly everything—from unfamiliar noises and new faces to stepping into his crate or riding in a car—Benji struggled to feel safe in his world. With his pawrent’s support, the #LeadtheWay team worked with Benji both virtually and in person to help him start building confidence. Through these gradual, trust-based sessions, Benji found stability and began to relax. 😱 His biggest helper has been canine trainer Gunner! Benji adores following Gunner’s lead, picking up cues, and finding reassurance in his calm presence. After coming to stay with the team for a board and train program, Benji has started to tackle his fears one brave step at a time. With his pawrent, the LTW team, and Gunner by his side, he’s transforming into a more courageous version of himself every day. When I opened Lead the Way Dog Training, what was always most important to me was making a huge impact on the lives of people I come in contact with. I have always found it very rewarding to see families go from the chaos and frustration of their dogs not listening, to the peace of having a dog that listens… the freedom to truly enjoy their dog. To me it’s all about that impact. We do things very differently here, and the families we get to help really love how THEY become part of our family during training. The sense of community, knowing you have people who understand you. Our clients become friends who call us when they need anything. All the trainers and staff at LTW have our own passions for dogs… rescue, service dogs, therapy dogs, obedience… and our combined passion and knowledge helps give everyone the best - for your family and for your dog!
