And the hits just keep on coming for poor Magnum. The results of yesterday’s head/jaw and hind leg xrays broke our hearts completely and showed undoubtedly that the abuse he suffered was far worse still than we had come to know.
🐾His misaligned jaw was most likely (we weren't there) caused by blunt force trauma that unrooted a tooth and caused significant damage in his jaw that he never received treatment for. This has healed roughly on its own causing the swelling and lack of tongue control. Dr. T doesn't feel that Magnum is in pain anymore from this injury, which is our biggest concern. If Magnum's mouth continues to swell, gives him issues or worsens, he will go in to see our oral surgeon.

🐾His hind leg is not a torn ligament nor luxating patella as we were thinking. Sadly he has been trying to function with a broken tibia and fibula, causing the fibula to be at an odd angle. Dr. T feels there could possibly be some ligament damage. We don't know how long he has been suffering like this, but he now has an inability to use his leg properly (thus always standing on his tippy toes). Even under anesthesia his leg can't fully extend. The images are being sent to our orthopedic surgeon, Dr. B, to create a surgical plan to help relieve his pain. Magnum needs to have a brace for his leg ordered to help relieve some of the pressure on his ligaments to reduce further damage and help with pain until surgery.
🐾He also has only gained minimal weight (3 lbs) so he was given one more deworming treatment before investigating additional causes. After his deworming this weekend, his feeding will increase. We are looking at adding a fatty moist food to his diet to help him some.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Magnum has only known cruel abuse, but he has a full life ahead once we get him repaired and healed. Our goal of $3500 for initial treatment has not been met and there are surgeries on the horizon. Please consider giving toward Magnum’s care this holiday season🎅🏼🎄
